At 5:05 where did you get 2 and 5? Is it just a random pick of numbers or you did something?

Those are the values of t where v(t) = 0 (*see 4:14). These are the locations where the particle may change directions since it needs to come to rest in order to change direction.

When you added up the total distances, one of those numbers was a negative number. Why did you still add instead of subtract?

why does a derivative of position become velocity and the derivative of velocity become acceleration? can any one explain i am not getting it!!

Because derivative calculates rate of change at any defined point. The rate of change of position is velocity. Think change in position divided by change in time (dx/dt): distance divided by time is RATE (ft/sec for example)... The rate of change of velocity (how fast the velocity is changing) is acceleration.

Then you wouldn't use absolute values, so you'd subtract the 27 (negative) from the 52.
