While this strategy is certainly effective, this video mostly shows the importance of scouting. If Aurelius had scouted properly, he would have seen the early stone mining which is a dead giveaway of a trush coming in. Because you can't pull ALL your villagers to get towers up (you wouldn't have stone income), the defender will always have more villagers on the spot than the attacker. This means you can always rush the first tower with villagers and prevent it from going up. Nice video though, but Aurelius made a lot of mistakes which eventually lead to his demise.

If your civ unlocks a research for free - you only get it when you hit the correct age. So, Turks for example don't get Chemistry for free in Dark/Feaud/Castle but only Imp. Franks only get the farming upgrades as they advance levels, and Vikings only get the TC upgrades as they advance. :)

My go to strategy for countering a trush is to get up to castle age ASAP and make rams, which are invulnerable to towers, and then go archers behind that to cover the rams from vills/infantry

I swear I heard you say Age of Vampires in the beginning

Yellow is much better than Hawk. Hawk did execute his trush well, but his opponent also played very bad. People Yellow normally plays against would never allow to be dominated as much as Aurelius was.

They're using the HD version that's on Steam, and the smaller trees are a mod called "Pussywood" available on the Steam workshop.

Oh man. I just experienced Hawk's trush first hand. I didn't know anything about him. I should have pulled back my drush right away(he walled his eco) when I saw his vills forward and I couldn't wall fast enough. And my micro was terrible as I tried to deal with all the things going on. Definitely a lot learned from the match.

Nice vid, question. When do you find siege workshop units valuable?? Onagers only seem viable in castle age only cuz you don't have access to bombards or trebuchets (and against archers). Rams only seem useful for cleaning up an area you already have control of. They both seem to get destroyed too quickly otherwise. Or did I already cover it all?? haha

Scorpions are "useless" indeed, but the other two are pretty darn valuable. Mangonals are viable in castle age as you said but they are really worth it! Squishing 5 archers in one shot and you've earned your resources back. And rams have a load of hitpoints and a shitload of pierce armour (armour protecting against arrow fire). Now you need to know: units who are not properly micro'ed attack the unit closest by. So imagine this: you have 15 crossbowmen and 1 ram, the other player has 20 crossbowmen. You micro your crossbowmen like you would do, but you send the ram straight forward. It will soak up a load of arrow fire and be able to sustain it for ages. Meanwhile, your own crossbows target down the opponent's crossbows. And you win, thanks to the ram. It probably isn't even destroyed. And rams are still useful to hammer down on everything.

All siege units are very useful. Rams against buildings and to absorb archer arrows, mangonels/onagers against archers and to attack buildings from a bigger distance. Scorpions are not used against buildings, but against infantry and slower units, mainly in tight spaces, because the arrows can't really miss like mangonels' stones and hurt everything they fly thru, but not your own units. Also scorpions, like archers are much stronger, if they are massed, because then nothing can reach them. But all siege units have to be defended, because cavalry units can destroy them easily. So having some halbediers, archers or monks with them is pretty much needed.

Yeah maybe I gotta give em more of a chance. I only tried em a couple of and they seem to die too quickly to melee, and they get expensive quick.. And the onager upgrades seem expensive on top of everything else you gotta upgrade. Onagers also get scary/risky when you aren't monitoring them. But lately i only been using onager to attack a wall/archers and rams to clean up. Is it viable to take down castles with Rams.??? it doesn't seem like it to me. The only efficient way seems to wait until imperial for trebs n bombards.

24Eagle11 It is definitely viable to take down castles with rams. Trebs and bombards are extremely expensive in the gold department (you can buy 3 rams for the gold cost of 1 bombard cannon), meaning rams are usually a cheaper alternative, resulting in being able to mass more. Of course trebuchets are still the ultimate castle killers, but they have to be build at castles and they are Imperial Age units, so access to rams is much less restricted. Also, like the person above you said, they take a lot of punishment. I personally like rams most for pushing up a hill, because they force your opponent to target them instead of your units behind it (or he risks losing a castle). Trebbing a castle up hill is hard because opponent's trebuchets take out yours easily with the hill advantage. Just look out with mangonels behind an enemy castle, they take out rams very quickly.
