Honestly I don't think your rebel set backs are going to deter me from buying my own. Your honest and up front with the bike in both it's glory and it's issues. It's nice that you keep us informed and your upfront on all of it. It's also a big bonus you go over the issues and how your trying to find a solution or administer a solution. That way if we run across this we at least get your take on how to get ahead of these problems. Just keep doing what you do Burch we all appreciate you and the work you do. I'm still buying a rebel 1100 because of your honesty, passion, and joy for the bike as a whole. THROTTLE THERAPY FOREVER!!!

Hey, honesty sells. I prefer the devil I know than the devil I don't. Proof in point, even after watching Burch's debacles over the past year I still bought an 1100DCT today. Sure, I kept my Rebel 500, but they are very different bikes and it gives me a manual option for around town. I appreciate the honest reviews and will keep an eye out on this particular frame spot once I receive the bike (I don't have a garage). As Burch pointed out, maybe the DCT has something going there? Personally, I get the feeling the 1100 manual was an afterthought for Honda which may contribute to engineering problems in place of production simplification.

Before doing anything use a compressor that has a rubber tip to blow clean dry air thru and see if any air comes out anywhere else and make sure it's completely dry before trying to kill the rust... The old v45 magna routes the coolant thru one side of the frame which I always thought was a bad idea but anyway make sure it's completely dry before doing anything... My 2023 1100 lives in the desert but I'll definitely be careful washing it & will be keeping an eye out... Maybe you should also reach out to Honda and ask them WTF...

That bike should be replaced, Honda obviously have an issue with water , there are many complaints regarding water and rust with the Africa twin aswell, after seeing this i would never buy a second hand Honda

Air compressor pressure tanks have same ferric hydroxide as he does in frame. Blowing compressed air won’t completely dry it out. He needs to warm the inside and use a hairdryer and then spray it with that stuff or just keep those plugs removed or just blast oil the inside of that frame but it’s gonna happen to every bike every car no matter what. That bike doesn’t need to be replaced and whoever told you that doesn’t know what he’s talking about and doesn’t fox cars/motocycles. Don’t listen to that guy-he doesn’t know what he’s talking about

Sorry to hear this. I have a 21 HD Sportster S and immediately noticed the frame had some holes that where prone to water getting in and remain trapped inside. I reached HD and they had no solution. I bought a compressor do dry the bike after washing and being quite strong I use it on this holes to push some water, moisture or condensation built in. On top of this I use ACF50 once a year on the entire bike and regularly spray it in this holes. Cheers

My 1983 Shadow has this too. Best thing to do is to find lowest point and drill hole to drain it. Water will be condensing there. Problem is not necessarily just rust - it will blow the frame tubing up when water freezes.

I watch all of your videos and to be honest you're the reason I decided to by something else besides a Rebel. I had been riding my 2001 ZRX for 18 years with no issues other than normal wear items. After much looking around I bought V-Strom.

Won't water get in? Is there any sign of rust?

I've got a rebel 500 I have to my son. Great looking bike great riding bike. We haven't had any issues like this. It sucks man but love seeing the videos.

First, I love all your videos. Annapolis area is a favorite place to visit for my husband and I. Don’t give up on the rebel. Ignore those naysayers. Getting my first 600 mile service done. On my 2022 DCT that I bought new in April. They’re adding stiletto shocks which I would not have considered if I hadn’t seen that video. -for your demographic info: 65 year old who has been riding for 3 years mostly around the mountain roads of North Carolina and Tennessee on my Triumph t100. Can’t wait to get my new girl-Meg out to the mountains.

Sorry you have been having all these issues with the 1100. It seems odd that water would be getting inside there, especially if its not getting into the other side. If you really want to get a look inside there your best bet would be to get your hands on a borescope. Thanks for the videos lets hope you have better luck with the 1100 in the future.

😂 I’m not going to let you discourage me man! As you know, I just took delivery on a 2022 and I am praying 🙏🏾 that I don’t have 5% of the problems you have encountered. However, thank you for bringing these problems to our attention so that I can have a general idea of how to address them. In my opinion it seems like someone power washed your bike with a high pressure nozzle that is probably not meant for just washing your bike off. Some people don’t know the difference between a white nozzle and a red one! I hope that you can rectify these problems problem soon and return your bike to it’s glory!

It's a machine that's parked outside, rained on, or gets washed. It happens to all manufacturers whether automotive, motorcycles, bicycles, or even toys. It's gonna happen so don't be down and out over it. Enjoy the bike. By you pointing out these flaws, you're helping your viewers out so they can do preventive maintenance with you. Keep up the good work

That’s a bummer I hope everything gets better. On the other note these problem videos are great in a sense to help those prevent or minimize the chances of these issues from happening. This video in specific is great for a couple of things. 1. Coat the internal frame hopefully early on after purchase. 2. We can add checking that rubber plug as well when doing regular maintenance, such as getting an air compressor and pushing out potential dust/water in there.

Sorry to hear/see about your trouble. I have used Eastwood internal frame coating before. I refurbished the undercarriage of two 1990's Buick Roadmasters in the last two winters. I went through 7 cans of Eastwood's product. It seemed to be pretty good stuff. The useful to know would be there is a brass nozzle at the end of the 24" of tubing the cans come with, & it does spray a 360 area in front of itself. So the spray pattern would be a cone shape starting out small at the nozzle & spreading out wider the further it gets away. This stuff is fairly thin coverage, so it will be a good idea to do several coats. One can will easily do that. I think it will suit your purpose, but it is important to have the surface as clean & dry as possible before you do the internal frame coating. I have used a product, Evapo-rust, in the past that would probably do really well in dissolving the corrosion inside your frame tube. Put the lower plug back in, & fill up to the level where you think the water has gotten in at. Leave it at least overnight before you drain it out. Then maybe a can of non-chlorinated brake cleaner to get the surface really, really clean. Wear safety glasses when you're spraying the brake cleaner. You do NOT want an accidental eye coverage. After that, make sure the brake cleaner is dried up (it drys pretty quickly). You should be all set at that point to start using the internal frame coating. Follow the instructions, you'll get good results. Oh, & use the brake cleaner to clean out the 24" tube & brass nozzle on the frame coating, so it doesn't clog up between coats. I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck & safe riding!

OK but none of this should have to be done when you purchase a brand new vehicle with a new vehicle warranty. The whole thing stinks and Honda is not stepping up!!!

As a metalworker welding tubes i can say that is condensation. if there are pores in welds or holes in the tube condensation will fill it over time. to fix this you need it shut tight OR have a drainage hole.

Damn! That sucks man, it's never fun to find any issues with your bike no matter how small. I feel like I'm always finding little things on my bike too. It's like as soon as you fix one problem another one surfaces lol

Hey Burch, hopefully you see this, I have an 1100T and just checked the same area on my bike. But this also comes from working in manufacturing and what not. Firstly on the dct nothing is attached to that one spot, same crappy plastic plug there. Now on to the rust issue, those rubber plugs absolutely should NOT have been there. Those holes are meant as drain holes, you will see that a lot on any sort of tubing (round or square) that will be exposed to the elements and not easy to dry/access. I would suspect the holes are on the top to prevent any road grime/debris/dirt from clogging the hole and on top to be visible, there is also most likely a hole on the tube your sliders are on that is in line with the rusting tube to allow more drainage which is why your sliders are getting wet too. Take the plugs out and leave them out. On the side that is rusting try and get it as dry as you can obviously and get some sort of rust inhibiter in there to prevent any further damage. I would suspect that any rust currently in there is just surface and no need to worry about after getting the inhibiter in. Maybe get some inhibiter on the other side too just as a precaution.

Mike, first off sorry to hear your battles with this beast man. Great that you’re so on top of this though. Leaving this would have caused all kinds of problems (down the road) As for repair. 1. That plug to the side you can use some activator and some urethane (windshield/black) to seal that plug. 2. that bottom plug looks high and on the wrong side for a breather… yet I get why they have it “out of sight” personally I would keep that one the way it is… so you can confirm that seal in the first repair is working… then after a few checks I’d seal that as well. 3. the rust coating (inside frame spray) works well. Rust check/crown etc all work similar. I’d spray this after #1 is confirmed and before #2 4. Obviously paint the chipped area. Hope you have had your last hiccup on this. Wish I lived closer or I’d help you out.

Do you think that’s worth it, or no since I already dried up and sprayed out as much I could? I’m not familiar with the frame coating stuff so I don’t want the WD40 to affect how that applies.

@@LifeOfBurch if you’re using the frame sealer then no. You won’t be able to clean out the WD40 out fully and I would agree with you in regards to being unsure the effect it will have when mixed.. if any. Those sealers are designed to neutralize rust. You’ll be good with only using this.

Hey Burch! Thanks for sharing. On my 1100 (manual) MY'2022 I dont even have lower rubber cups, and side holes are plugged with plastic caps. I don't have any signs of corrosion - yet. But saying this, my Rebel 1100 have other issue... massive oil consumption. IT has done 2600km, and service had to add 3x 700ml of oil... SICK. At this point this issue has been officially reported and claimed under warranty.. Now I have to wait for Honda reply.

Take it to a track day. You will stop worrying all those miniscule problems once you scape metal a few times.

Flush with some isopropyl to dry it out. Also Honda should just give you a new one cause you have been a very good promoter! I am still buying one as soon as I can.

Sad to see the bike going through that. It's a great bike and supposed to not get in those situations, being a Honda and all, but once you get there, it seems like the bike will never be fixed. Hope you can get this sorted out and keep enjoying the bike. I have the '22 model (a bit over a year since I got it) and so far hasn't given me any issues, but I hope I don't jinx it :D

Where are these modern Hondas made these days? I had a 50cc Monkey, 125 NSR and CBR600F(4i) all made in Japan and they were all bomb proof. Never had any issues with tech or paint work. I guess Honda has outsourced the manufacturing to some cheaper countries and it shows... 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻

@@uusiluuri6676 the Honda importer in Portugal told me that the 750 and 1100 lines are fully made in Japan. They get small parts like bolts and so from Taiwan (if I'm not mistaken), but production and assembly of the bikes is in Japan. Don't quote me on that, it's just info that I heard from the importer, which may not be 100% true, but well...

Uh oh. Rust is never good. Now I'm second guessing buying the shadow after seeing all of the little quarks you have had with your rebel 1100. I may check out some of the other brands before I make a final decision. Your the best motorcycle channel 👍

I have an 05 shadow 600 and its been great besides universal parts not fitting it as ive been modding away all the ugly chrome. Ive also owned 2 BMW cars that were colossal pieces of shit whereas other people have had nothing but good experiences with them. It's just dumb luck to get a bad car/bike. Shadows are their tried and true V-Twin like my old model too as opposed to the Rebel's parallel twin so you might find some peace of mind in that. I like to think of these things as things to look out for when you buy the bike you want, since everything is gonna have problems eventually. Burch's videos let you know in advance some POTENTIAL problems you may face. You gotta account for different environments too like he's in Maryland and I'm in the desert. IDK dont let one man's one bike deter you from it. The overall consensus is these bikes are bought and kept. I've only seen ONE used 1100 in my city since theyve come out and it lasted 2 days lol. His videos have deterred me from the rebel 300 when I was looking for a first bike because of the 6-speed having the gears so close together having to constantly shift in city riding. This aint so bad

Crap, I just washed my 1100 for the first time couple days ago...then we had rain. Today I moved my bike to prep for a ride, and found a small amount of fresh water that must've come out when I stood her up. 😬 Now I'm nervous, how to get all the water out??? SO THANKFUL FOR ANY HEADS-UP VIDEOS!!! I'm completely in love with my 1100 too!!! Gonna check my bike in just a minute!!! ADDED: Okay, just checked my 2023 1100 dct, i dobt have those plastic/rubber caps. Im guessing she'll be able to drain, and dry out. I totally love this bike. If something happened to her, i would definitely buy another one identical to her! I hope that spray is gonna take care of this serious issue!

I would probably drill a small pinhole on the bottom of the frame tube so it can drain, then clean, and then coat the interior. Eastwood makes awesome products, I would think that stuff works well.

i had to deal with this crap when I got my first model year for the subaru impreza- the non wrx one. I had to deal with the same crap as you did. I hope honda honors all the mess ups and makes recalls before anyone gets hurt.

Honda has had so many issues even some of the sport bikes that are literally dumping oil right behind the rear tire due to a known factory defect/recall. Honda really needs to get their shit together and take care of there customers

Looked at the stock rebel. Looks like the frame sliders prevent the water from draining out of the frame.

Easy fix. No need for special spray cans. Fix it the same way it was damaged . Pull both plugs an spray it clean an dry. Put bottom plug in. Fill top hole with off the shelf anti rust paint. Pull bottom plug an let paint drain. Repeat pant part in 24 hours. Replace top plug with better one once done.

That is moisture accumulation from change of air temperature inside against outside of the pipe wall. That is normal what I can suggest is let the whole open remove the rubber plug.

I have the DCT 1100 and I have those same plastic caps on the frame but they feel tight and secure verses yours looking loose. I would see if you can pop it out and add some silicone sealant around the cap to prevent water getting in.

Bought a 2022 DCT. Up graded the shocks, seat, windshield etc. finally I just bit the bullet & traded it back in. Decided I’m just not a cruiser guy. Replaced it with the’23 NC750X DCT, arthritis in my clutch hand. Absolutely love it so far. Not every bike is for everyone. Guess That’s why there are so many different models.

I just picked up a brand new 23 rebel 1100 and I love it so far.

I looks like you got it figured out. The upper frame lug wasn't water-tight. You should be able to buy some sort of goo to plug that upper hole, blow some air through the frame to dry it out and you should be good to go. As for not buying a Rebel, I was never going to buy one in the first place.

I think that frame spray should fix the rust. I doubt the one time pressure washing it caused that. It seems to me that water was coming in through that plug when it rained while it was parked in front of your house and when you rode in the rain.

​@CamGaylorOutdoors Can Am doesn't tell you that the Ryker needs a complete engine overhaul after about 25k miles. I hit that mark in under a year. So after a year I had to shell out about $2k. Not worth it. 🤷‍♂️

Hey thanks for sharing. I'm still experiencing the wobble issue with my HondaRebelCMX1100 at 40-60mph, even after tire replacements and multiple checks by authorized Honda technicians. Unfortunately, Honda seems to view it as an isolated issue rather than acknowledging a possible systemic problem. Disappointed by this 'not our problem' approach. Tbh I'm thinking about getting rid of the bike and get an Indian or something else

Please follow-up with this, im curious what you end up doing and how it turns out.

I would drill a hole on the bottom to allow drainage and use that frame coating but before hand use a rust converter so your not painting over rust that will cause it to rust out faster

I would try to have a hole on the bottom side of that weld, a lot of times welded joints will have a hole for escaping gasses it prevents the weld from getting air bubbles.

If you're going to use that Eastwood product you're going to want to make sure it's completely dry inside and all the debris is removed. Otherwise it won't cure correctly. Ideally I would use a product like fluid film as it doesn't cure. Very commonly used for undercoating on cars.

Having the same issue 2022 Rebel 1100. Just after watching your video complaining about this situation, checked my motorcycle and guess what there was alot of water inside the frame. I guess the water is getting inside from 2 situations, the bad sealed plastic that you showed on your video and from a hole that exists on the top of the frame. I also noticed that after removing the black plastic plug water went out throw two places. The plug hole and from the frame where you have the sliders installed. In my motorcycle the water was on the left side also as yours, so i guess there is something maybe related to the inclination of the motorcycle when is parked? I´m going to the honda dealer since this is a major flaw and future issue. I also have many spots of rust around the bike: inside the exaust, rear suspesion central arm bearing, rear suspesions springs, serial number in the front forks, fuel pump pipe, brake and gearbox foot peg. My bike has less than a year and 8200kms. Is this Honda realiability and construction quality materials they are known for? What i thought and what i am feeling from owning an honda is making me changing my good perspective of the brand.

Drill a hole on the bottom side of the frame and tap it for a small bolt so that you have a drain plug for the future. Bout to do the same thing to my old shadow.

I had a Honda Shadow Aero and am now looking at getting a new rebel 1100

I would dry it out from every hole on the frame you can find, and also spray that frame coating in every hole you found too, I'd also find rubber plugs for every hole, just for some added insurance :). I'm actually surprised that these frames aren't stainless, cause I'd pay extra just for that peace of mind.

Just checked my 2023 Rebel 1100 DCT and I have the same little plug on the side, and it is very loose. I am going to get a rubber plug or find a way to seal it. I do not however have the little grommets for the drain holes, they are completely open. I am sorry it happened to your bike, but I appreciate you making others aware of issues.

Gr8 videos! Frame filling up with water? it's a motorcycle and they aren't very well designed maybe electric motorcycles will improve the situation. Considering moving to the rebel from my NC700X with 50K miles and ** ZERO ** problems other than rust and normal maintenance.

I am highly concerned that the inside of the frame might not have been rust proofed. I own two Honda motorcycles. I need to check some plugs.

I guess my 2022 manual version got extra attention during manufacturing. I hit 20,0000 miles 2 weeks ago and still haven't had a single problem. Keep it outside too as I only got a carport at my apartment.

I know i am late to the video but you might squirt some alcohol in the holes to mix with any remaining water then blow it out, more alcohol and blowing. I'd leave the plugs out so any moisture will drain and not collect.

I think I'd try to get a treatment of Evaporust through that frame pipe. They use it on rusty gas tanks to treat the rust. I'd want to treat it before painting/coating the inside.

Traded mine and bought a Ninja 1000SX. Love love my new bike. 2.5 months and 5K already. I don’t miss my Rebel 1100.

Is there any chance that the water is coming in from the head/steerer tube? If not then that other random plug does seem to be the culprit unless there is other holes elsewhere behind the panels.

At205 add on oil change to reseal rubber and use fluid firm spay inside to prevent rust

Idk if you would be willing to do this, but when I worked in the automotive industry and issues like that were known, we would drill small holes on the very underside of whatever collected water. That way when the water wouldn’t sit and have a way out.

So they make this thing to get eat wax out of your ear. It has a camera (maybe lite) that you can pair to your phone. Never used one but I wonder if that would be a relatively cheep thing to just check out the rust

You are really unlucky with your bike. I just took my 2022 1100 to the 24,000 km service, and they said everything looked peachy. No rust, no degradation. I did change the chain with a friend about a month back because I had been so bad at oiling it that a link had seized. Oops. I got Cruisetecs and a Scottoiler installed at the service, too.

I'm no expert on this, but maybe ironX will do the trick? Fill and drain until the ironX stops reacting/changing colour. Then it should be free of rust and then use some sort of sealant? I'm honestly just learning about this stuff so take that info with a grain of salt. I'm still doing my research. Good luck bro. Can't wait to own a bike someday and one of them will definitely be the Rebel 1100!

It might be worth shooting some rust inhibitor inside where the water got to so it doesn't rust up anymore. That really sucks man.

Your slider is not sealed. That could easily be how the water gets in there. Once you dry it out, put some RTV on the slider seam.

Try pulling the frame slider and scope it out. Maybe dumb thought, but since the cross tube serves as an engine mount......something getting in from the engine????😢

Because of these videos I decided not to buy a 1100. Just got a 24 grom orange. Already put a YSS shock, kimimoto cargo carrier which looks great. And some cool handles for back rider. And helps move it around easy. Got to pick a exhaust and I'm set

@mrpablomx no... I was getting a Grom anyway. And I lost half my fuking hand so I thought a auto bike might be easier for me. The Grom is 4k so I bought it. So fuk u.

Powder coating uses no primer. It is just lacquer powder bake melted onto the metal. I do not consider this method of applying paint to be of high quality. The holes may be there to eliminate the hot air expansion inside a sealed hollow tube when it is welded. I usually fill those back in with a button of weld. I would not use a rubber plug. Hot expanded air in a sealed tube tries to push its way through a molten weld puddle and will instantly ruin the integrity of the bond. It introduces "porosity" or bubbles in the weld which weakens the joint and cause it to fail. Failure is not an option when it comes to protecting your life.

spray some wd40 in the hole, as much as you can. let it rest for the night, use that spray pipe again to pump everything out. do that a few times then seal the holes off with jb weld or something. then do the painting

Spray some “fluid film” in it it’s like wd-40 but it’s super sticky and doesn’t dry out good for truck frames too

do you cover up the bike when your not riding? itll probably help stop getting rain water to find it way there

If not under warranty drill a drill hole towards the ground clean up the tube, spay it with rust converter paint using long hose

1. The Manual says that you SHOULD NOT Power Wash the Bike. 2. Maybe the Sliders have a bit of Blame? Seems weird that’s happening where the exact spot for the frame sliders is

I always wanted it one but since of that Honda bond I’m not interested in it anymore so I might get a Vulcan S or something like that.

Looks like a hidden free gift from Honda in the form of a pet parasite oozing sludge, LOL.

Hopefully Honda has fixed all of these problems in the new 1100s by now.

3:40 drill a 3/16" hole in the front that will drain with gravity.

Could you use a drillbit and make a hole in the bottom part (like somewhere near the plug) to have a permanent drain?

I don’t know if I wanna be drilling into the frame. I’d rather stop the water from coming in at all, than worry about giving it a better way out.

@LifeOfBurch Gotcha 👍 The stuff you found should be good for cleaning it out, someone else mentioned brake cleaner, I was thinking give it a thorough wash with 90 (or 91, I forget what max sold in stores is) % isopropyl alcohol, it would help strip all the oils and rust away, would recommend using the internal frame stuff AFTER the alcohol if you go that way.

Bro what? Ive never heard of this on any other Rebel 1100. This is nuts.

I thought about getting a scope in there, but if the coating works as well as it’s supposed to I don’t think it’ll matter much anyway. Sometimes it’s best to not know and just assume the best 😂

I don't know, but is there a rubber washer between the slider and the bike frame? If there isn't, could water seep through? Because metal on metal, water can certainly infiltrate. Is the inclined vertical part of the frame connected from the inside with the horizontal part (where there is the slider rod)?! Otherwise, the two water infiltrations would have no relationship between them, you would then have two !! In addition, the water residues are not the same color. Besides, I follow your KZread channel every week, and it seems to me that you installed the slider after the first time you noticed the water infiltration! For the small part just at the top, which comes out towards the engine, I don't know anyone who has a Rebel DTC, maybe you could ask one of your friends (OnTheRebell11)?! But, I watched the video of OnTheRebel11 (Rebel 1100 engine guards installation), and I don't see anything connected on this part!

Could you spray something in there to flush out the water and protect it? Maybe like WD40 or PB blaster
