ANYONE can buy these?... 35 POWERFUL Military Aircraft For Sale to Civilians

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It’s hard to imagine the powerful, fast, and even dangerous military aircraft for sale can be bought so easily. But, as new generations of aircraft are produced and older ones are phased out - they become available. Without further chatter, here’s the list of military aircraft for sale.

Sukhoi SU-27
Within the last decade, the Soviet-era Sukhoi SU-27 became an aircraft for sale to civilians. This military aircraft was built by the Russians to compete with the Fourth Generation F-14s and F-15s. Its impressive stats make for an exciting civilian aircraft. With twin engines, supermanueverability, and a top speed of Mach 1.8, this fighter jet will give you the ride of your life. It's also unusually large. While it was built to rival the F-15, it comes in at over 10 feet longer and 5 feet wider than its competitor. All ten of the weapons hardpoints are removed and protected radar technology is stripped for civilian sale. The fuel is carried internally, so this stripped version of the SU-27 is the lightest and fastest of its kind. The asking price is around $5 million which is a pretty good deal to own one of the only bonafide fighter jets available to the public.
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter
Lockheed's F-104 "Starfighter" was first introduced in the late 1950s and was active in militaries across the globe until the early 2000s. The US, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Spain, and many other nations all flew F-104s at some point in time during its 40-plus years of operation. They are now retired from military use but can be purchased by private buyers. The Starfighter was developed with help from renowned aeronautical engineer, Kelly Johnson. Johnson was also involved in the development of the U-2 spy plane and the SR-71 Blackbird. This aircraft for sale proved particularly deadly to operate and was plagued with controversy during its operational lifetime. Nonetheless, according to the FAA, there are ten privately owned F-104 Starfighters in the US. Three of which are ex-Canadian military aircraft belonging to the civilian demonstration team, Starfighters Inc. of Clearwater, Florida. In 2011, there was a restored, albeit engineless, F-104 for sale in the UK for £25,000.
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG 21 has been a staple in military air forces around the world since its introduction in 1959. Primarily used by the Soviet, Indian, and Libyan Air Forces, the MiG 21 was the first successful Soviet aircraft to perform both intercepting and fighting capabilities effectively. It held a number of world records including its rank as the most produced supersonic aircraft in history. Despite still being used by some military forces today, the MiG 21 can be purchased to be owned privately all over the world. It's estimated that somewhere around 10,000 MiG 21s were produced by the Soviet Union and their allies over the last forty years. According to the FAA, there are 44 aircraft for sale in the United States alone. Three are located in Portland, Oregon at Premier Space Systems which perform public and private sub-orbital atmospheric space launch services. How much will one of these aircraft set you back? Around $150,000.
Hawker Hunter
The MK-58 Hawker Hunter was originally built for the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a fighter jet in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Later, it would transition into intelligence gathering and fighter-bomber roles. Both single and double pilot versions were created. The aircraft was heavily exported, serving in a large number of other military units around the world. It officially retired in 2014 and now enjoys "warbird" status. Maxing out at just under 700 miles per hour and regarded as one of the great early fighters (the UK produced around 2000 of them), military aviation enthusiasts would be happy to get their hands on one of these aircraft for sale. If you have the funds, they aren't all that hard to locate. Most Hawkers that are still in existence are owned by groups who perform aerial demonstrations.
Aero L-39 Albatros
No other former military aircraft is more synonymous with "warbird" than the L-39 Albatros. It was developed by Aero Vodochody in Czechoslovakia as a training aircraft. It was the first Second Generation jet trainer to be produced. Also, it's pretty easy to see why the Albatros has become such a popular civilian enthusiast military aircraft to own. The sleek design combined with its relative ease of care and operation make it a go-to purchase for those with deep enough pockets.
North American P-51 Mustang
The P-51 Mustang is a North American classic, originally built for the British during World War II as a medium-altitude fighter.... continue reading here ▶ militarymachine.com/aircraft-...

Re: the P-51, I worked for a guy who worked for a very rich guy who had a Sea Fury project, along with a small squadron of various warbirds, including a perfect Mustang painted in the Louis IV scheme. He starved the engine of fuel by leaving the fuel selector on either the right or left tank (instead of both), and ran the tank dry, thoroughly destroying the aircraft but somehow only suffering a small scratch. The plane crashed in a park near a school, I believe, in Waukegan; our hangar was in Kenosha. Evidently, there was some pressure from the warbird community that he either restore it (prolly not worth it, at least at that time) or somehow get another Mustang in the air. There was (is?) a warbird (or Mustang only) outfit in Montana that had all the engineering drawings from North American, that scratch built an ENTIRELY NEW P-51 airframe! It was basically an authentic Mustang that received a real sequential serial number, although I really don’t know what that meant…was it a North American sn#, a USAAF sn# (dunno how, since neither entity exists), a USAF sn#, and FAA sn#??? Whatever - I guess the point is, is that it is considered an authentic Mustang. So….if you want a Mustang, maybe look into this Montana establishment, assuming it still exists.

The deal with a lot of American military aircraft is that they have to be purchased from other countries’ air forces, and not from America’s, although there are exceptions if you have a qualified aircraft museum for tax purposes (some wealthy warbird owners do, if they have multiple warbirds, other criteria…). For example (exceptions exist), you can’t go window shopping at Davis Monthan and buy a scrapped plane from the Air Force. As a past warbird restorer, I thought this was an abomination! :) I think warbird wrecks in other countries are fair game, unless they’re a grave site. WWII aircraft found in the Great Lakes may still be on the military’s registry, so there’s that hoop to go through. Aircraft like the F-104 and F-4 can probably be purchased from other countries in a fairly straightforward manner. Newer (very loosely used) planes like the F-16, F-15, F-14 can be bought from other nations if the models and variants have been retired from US service, and purchased from other countries - with complicated bureaucratic difficulties. An F-16A, for example, has recently ended up in private hands although I don’t know the backstory. I have seen an F-15A in civilian hands, but it had been delivered to a museum in Waukegan, just of I94 near WI and IL border (this was ~30 years ago). This same place had a small squadron of 5-8 OV-1 Mohawks (like in the thumbnail), one of which I saw had somehow been delivered to the Kenosha Airport and flown - thing is a rocket! The F-14 would be a special case. There are obviously several F-14s at museums across the country, but when they were retired and delivered to a boneyard (I don’t know where the Navy stores their old stuff), they were ordered destroyed, along with (and especially) all their spare parts. This was done to prevent industrious dealers from sending parts to Iran to repair their F-14s. So, a civilian would have to purchase an airworthy example from Iran - good luck with that. For the average wealthy individual, they would simply buy an available military aircraft from an airplane broker or private sale, bypassing all the rules bs since that had already been waded through.

So many errors, so little time (that I am willing to devote) to respond. But, egregious case in point - at 5:20 "In the 1950s, it [Folland Gnat] was the fastest aircraft for any military." Does anyone really need examples to show what a ridiculous claim that is? The appropriately named Gnat, a decidedly subsonic trainer, first flew in 1955. My first operational assignment, the F-100 Super Sabre, was capable of sustained supersonic speeds IN LEVEL FLIGHT and first flew over two years earlier than the Gnat. The F-102 Delta Dagger also flew in 1953. The incredible Mach 2+ F-104 Starfighter took flight in 1954. My second operational fighter slot, and my career favorite aircraft, the Mach 2 capable F-105 Thunderchief flew its first test sortie in 1955, contemporaneously with the little Gnat. The fastest aircraft for any military from 1955 on into the future, the Gnat ? Not in W.E.W. Petter's fondest of wet dreams.

No original ME-262 can be sourced today outside of a museum, but the copies made in WA are available. You can get a flight check on the ME-262 in TX. Also, I'd guesstimate the ME-262 going for at least $1M.

Head out to the boneyards in Tucson Arizona, they might sell you one if you offer enough, I know they sell them for parts and scrap metal, if they're willing to sell it to someone who's going to turn it into beer cans I don't see why they wouldn't sell it to someone who wants to restore and preserve a piece of history, this is all assuming you have a few hundred thousand, if not a few million dollars to burn

I wouldn't exactly call the C-47 a "powerful military aircraft", as great as it was. Besides, you have enough money, you can buy anything and outfit it with weapons, too. All you need is money and time to fill out paperwork. Lots and lots of paperwork.

You won't be outfitting any of these with weapons in the U.S. I own a twin-engine jet fighter in the U.S., flew fighters for Uncle Sam in a 21 year military career, and was asked to come to work in 2008 for an outfit that had a number of L-39 MS models. The crooked lawyer who owned that outfit was raided by the FBI, ATF and other agencies, ostensibly for having rocket pods on some of them, despite the aircraft and the pods having paperwork confirming that they had been properly demilitarized. He was later indicted, tried, convicted, sentenced (13+ years) and imprisoned for wire fraud, money laundering and other offenses related to stealing funds ($52 million) supervised by him as a trustee attorney.

Why not? All armaments must be removed, obviously, but they’re just airplanes, in the end. They’re just more efficient at converting gobs of money into going fast for no practical reason. A huge benefit, though, is they tend to show up at airshows, giving us the opportunity to see them fly. This would otherwise never happen.
