Anxious About Everything: Addressing Anxiety Biblically | Guest: Dr. Andi Thacker | Ep 476

Today we're talking to Dr. Andi Thacker, assistant professor of biblical counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary, about anxiety in adults and kids and the theology and science behind it. For the many of us who have been struggling with the weight of the world, Dr. Thacker has some biblical advice and encouragement, as well as knowledge on some of the psychology playing out in our heads.

With ALL due respect for your guest, her work and research. I too felt I did exactly what she is saying here. I kept dialogue open, connected, bonded and implemented these great tips raising my daughter. She is almost 21 and has a very exaggerated sense of, "others are obligated to meet me where I am!" Sense of self. Her entitlement is exhausting and Iam responsible for this mindset, because implemented these exact tips. As she has gotten older, she's far more anxious. She is unemployed not enrolled in college bc nobody is understanding or catering to her needs. Ugh! It is so painful to see because she is so talented . Balance is definitely needed!!

The problem is, we can't trust the news. Every news story contradicts the last. I believe this is by design to keep us in a state of confusion, anxiety and uncertainty. I tell myself to stay away from the news, but it's hard when it's everywhere.

I have to keep reminding myself God saw this coming and is allowing it for a reason and has a plan to turn it for our good and his glory. Read "boundaries"! I don't remember the name of the author's [edit:: Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend], but it's written by two Christian psychologists. They have a whole series with focuses on different kinds of relationship dynamics- marriage, children, colleagues, etc. I've only read the original "boundaries", but I found it to be EXTREMELY helpful for the reason I was using it (coming out of childhood trauma and understand what boundaries I'm actually allowed to have, since I didn't learn that I have a right to personal boundaries as a child). It also helped me to understand where I might be infringing on other people's boundaries as well, and really changed how I approached pretty much every relationship from friends, to my husband, to my family.

Hello! I came across your channel and I love the message so far. A bit about me: I'm a young guy and found out I have a heart issue that's getting the better of me faster than I realized. At this point, I'm doing what I can to enjoy my life awhile I still can, but am also excited about heaven. I admit as a young guy I am torn between wanting to enjoy my life and check off my bucket list as much as possible, while realizing that I won't experience the joy of marriage, relationships with women, and all that life has to offer. But that has been minimized somewhat through prayer, allowing on me to focus on spreading the word, ministering to people at my church by spreading my story and encouraging people to live as it was their last day. On one hand my heart issue is a relief, giving me huge purpose in the time I have left, but at the same time leaving me battling feelings of envy when I see men with beautiful women, me struggling with temptation, etc. Do you have any religious words of advice for me as I prepare to wrap up my life on earth? I'm a happy new subscriber and look forward to your other videos!

I disagree with the guest's opinion of online or at home learning not giving appropriate social interaction. The socialization aspect isn't necessarily met in a classroom in a building full of kids. This can be a very individual need and ideally should be based on the student's personality, learning style, and a lot of other factors. This is especially true in the lower income levels where schools are generally more stressful.... particularly with regards to social interaction. We can creatively meet our kids needs in a variety of ways.

I know this doesn’t go with the video. The biggest thing in the Christian community as we say we follow Christ and led by his teachings a lot of us claim to be Bible following Christians! But yet we treat other denominations like garbage they are good people in those other denominations they are trying to live by God‘s teachings to the best of their knowledge I do not understand why we as followers of Christ saying we obey the Bible and led by its teachings? But all of the other denominations yell and scream and speak hate against other denominations saying they’re not biblical! It’s only been in the last 150 years or so that biblical Christianity was a thing it was a way to separate us as Christians or as followers of Christ as long as we are obeying the Commandments living by Christ teachings it does not matter what denomination we belong to we are all Christian people followers of Jesus Christ Methodist Baptist protestant some nondenominational‘s and the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints all Christian people followers of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and live by his teachings these are Christian people just like the seven churches at the time of the New Testament they had various understanding of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ today if they were around we will stay there or not biblical that is hypocrisy every denomination has some truth in it and teach the Bible and the Scriptures a different way we are all trying to be living all lives according to the teachings of Jesus Christ regardless of a denomination you noticed I left out to denominations the Catholics and Jehovah’s Witnesses because they are not biblical at all and I left out New Age churches do you have a problem with what I have discussed we can discuss it on your podcast I know people are going to hate what I have to say but as Christian people and follow Jesus Christ we need to be strong because the time of tribulation is coming only as Christian people regardless of denomination will survive to help out each other in the time of tribulation we know it’s coming we’re staying at red it’s ugly head it’s just a matter of time that the beast and the antichrist are coming as follows a Jesus Christ we have to stick together regardless of denomination take this to heart I was inspired by God to share that with you all take care God bless you and your families

Barth did you know there is an epidemic of adult children who are estranged from their parents? There are many elderly parents who have children, but since they are estranged (over something stupid) they get no help and have to fend for themselves even if they are older , frail and have health problems. Many of these children call themselves ‘Christians.’ This hardly is showing honor to their parents like the Bible says to do. I wish you would do a show on this and advertise it in advance if you could. I’ve read several books on it, one written by a pastor who also has an estranged child.
