I raised my daughter vegan in 1989. She is now 34, still vegan and just had healthy twin girls. The docs couldn't believe that she carried over 13 lbs of babies on a vegan diet! One was 6.11 lbs and one was 7.4 lbs! My daughter is 5' tall and weighs @115. She gained 33 lbs during her pregnancy and lost 27 immediately after they were born.

Thanks for bringing the topic of Apeel back up. This topic needs to get more attention and the more people that speak up, the better. I contacted Trader Joe's and was told that they currently do NOT put Apeel on their produce BECAUSE of people expressing not wanting it. Please, everybody, speak up wherever you can. Whole Foods allows this wax, which as he said, you don't know if it's present or not. It's crazy that this is allowed on organic produce in general.

Yes - let's keep talking about this and demanding our stores to avoid it or at least label it. The chain Natural Grocer's has stated publicly that they do not sell produce with Apeel, and I have seen signs posted in their stores stating that fact as well.

Chef AJ, I was not a fan of mushrooms either (made me literally gag). But I wanted to eat them because I knew they were really healthy. I found that If you take mushrooms and put them in a food processor and process until they’re basically a paste, and then cook them in a soup, they totally disintegrate and you will not feel them or taste any flavor from them…I promise. This truly works!!

AJ, I used to feel exactly like you about mushrooms, could hardly force myself to swallow a little piece without gagging. That is until I watched Derek Sarno. His technique is to press all the moisture out, it completely changes the texture and like tofu you can flavor them like anything you want. I eat them everyday and when I feed non vegans I use them as a meat substitute and most people don’t notice. I eat them almost everyday. I just wish I could get more varieties here in Tulum.

GERD - I suffered immensely for years despite giving up so many foods. When I went wfpb, oil free, my GERD completely resolved. That said, I will get reflux if I eat off plan, like heavy or oily restaurant food. But, I rarely do that (like maybe once a year.). Silver lining, the reflux helps me continue to eat healthy :)

If I eat pounds and pounds of veggies, no red sauces, no sweet potatoes, no breads, then I am ok. I’m semi ok with potatoes. I can’t digest beans. Broccoli & cauliflower can be an issue. If I eat fruit alone, especially bananas I get heartburn. The struggle is real. 😒

@@fruityfitnatic7238 Have you tried a low fodmap diet? My mom just started one, so I'm learning how it works. Some veggies, fuites, etc are totally OK and others are really bad for people with fodmap sensativities. There is no way to tell by looking at the food item. You literally have to look up each thing. Hers is for intestinal issues, but it may help with Gerd?? It starts very restrictive, but then as you see how your body reacts, you can reintroduce more verity. Might be worth looking into 💛

Could it be that it needs to be said given the gut issues, that plant based eating if you buy conventional produce, will destroy the microbiome in the gut. Eating organic after the fact is only a partial fix to my understanding. The gut needs to be repaired as well. I feel this needs to be stated as much as it is necessitated by the questioning of gut issues. Plant based eating can be destructive, not because of the food, but what they are doing to the food. And to that end, could you mention that APeel cannot be washed off. 44:04

I had Covid twice and it attacked my stomach. I have been no oil plant based for 17 years and I eat no oil! So I have lost faith in whole food plant based being the remedy. I do not eat unprocessed foods and haven't for many years. I have lost too much weight. I still have a problem with bloating and constipation no matter what I do. After I had Covid I was diagnosed with gastroparesis. I take no medications and try to many with herbs, diet and lifestyle. This has been going on for 4 years. They gave me cipro and it made things so much worse. If I knew then what I know now I would definitely not take that dangerous drug but I was listening to the doctor!

Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I used soothing herbs and digestive enzymes, and ate very small portions of food. Any food that I discovered caused discomfort, I deleted. I used lots of varieties of magnesium, and built my body with whatever other supplements I could tolerate. Eventually, apple cider vinegar helped. Also diagnosed with h.pylori. unfortunately, all of my staple foods ended up in the trash. Everything I was eating aggravated the inflamation. I have been forced to radically alter my diet. Best to you! A year later, and I am on the mend and not on medication. I do use herbal medicine and food as medicine. Just follow your truth wherever it may lead .
