Anwar Masood (Urdu: انورمسعود; born 8 November 1935) is a Pakistani poet known for his comic poetry. However, his works include other genres as well. He writes in Punjabi, Urdu and Persian languages.
His poetry is known for the unique use of everyday, commonplace phrases and wording that is instantly relatable for masses in the region. Numerous of his Punjabi lines and phrases have actually become a figure of speech in everyday conversations. The most prominent feature of his expression is the poignancy buried deep under the humor making his poetry one of its kind. The nuance of tragedy in his poems is a reflection of social injustice, discriminations and personal misfortunes of his characters. This is why he, himself commented: “Real laughter is one that sheds tears when squeezed”.
Punjabi Lehar is endeavoring to bridge a gap between the people of East and West Punjab, created by the partition of 1947. Most of the people have passed away with an unfulfilled ardent desire in their heart, to see their birth place and meet their childhood friends. Punjabi Lehar is attempting to fufil the desire of remaining partition era punjabis, who will be gone in the next five to seven years. In West Punjab, only Urdu and English are taught in schools and colleges and yet the mother tongue of most of the people in West Punjab is Punjabi. The reason for this according to Pakistanis is that Urdu is the national language therefore only that language should be taught. On the other hand in East Punjab, three languages are taught in most schools which are Punjabi, Hindi & English. The vast majority of the people in East Punjab who went to schools can read and write in all three languages. All three languages are important with Punjabi being the mother tongue, Hindi being the dominant language of north India and English being the international language of communication.

Punjabi in East punjab has religious significance and almost all religious literature of West punjab is in Arabic/persion/urdu... Plus beurocracy in Pakistan is mostly from Punjab and they hv managed to create a class system where speaking English or urdu is status symbol.... So there is perception issue as well... And last but not the least... Off late in Pakistan Education's sole purpose has been to get job and not to educate...

We use to live in Rehman pura sultan street and my grand father Mohammad siddique butt & Family use to meet there Family had good terms and we use to buy items from his sons big grocery shop use to call it dewane ki dukan, his son was also so polite and person of great nature . May Allah bless professor sab and his family inshallah will meet them once I’ll be back from foreign .

How conveniently he said that his kids mother tongue is urdu. His wife might be urdu speaking but being such a renowned punjabi poet he should have atleast tried to teach his kids his own mother tongue (punjabi).
