She is not looking at her points. She was speaking on behalf on her friends who scored well but was not given a chance. Watch the video. She also said that some of other friends who did not do well was given places in the universiti. PM did not give her the chance to finish her sentences but was overtalking her. Be brave to point what is wrong is very needed in this country then only we can transparent.

Full Meritokrasi measurement is only can be applied when all students from any part of states who their parents regardless any race are equally can afford good foods, good clothings, good books, good learning gadgets, good internet connections, good tuitions, transportations and good schools.

Nuh. There can never be a perfect world and the more u try to intervene the worse it will be. Do u know that the Malays in Singapore income difference with Chinese Singaporeans are a lot less than the Malays vs Chinese Malaysians? If that is the case why should we still continue with the NEP policy? In the US they have this affirmative action policies where they put quotas for Black people at universities, civil servants, etc. When u look at the income difference between White Americans vs Black Americans and u compare that with White vs Black Canadians or Europeans. The income gap is bigger in the US. Moral of the story is, quota doesn't help anybody. It makes u complacent. Plus, what kind of values are u teaching your kids? You are telling them that you all are born as a loser therefore no need to work hard compared to other races. If u get 1-2 A's is good already u can go to the university because the government has already set quotas for u. If this is the message we are telling our kids then there is something wrong with us. Don't see yourself as a loser and u need the quota system to survive. See yourself as a winner and you don't need handouts. Teach them this value first.

Yes help all, by helping based on 'needs' not 'bumi' status. I agree with reserving places for underprivileged. Because amongst bumi there are rich and there are poor. So why not reserve places for best performing B40 students? Example, if there are 100 matriculation spots - 60% can be pure meritocracy (Regardless poor rich what race). The other 40% reserved for underpriviledge B40 (best performers amongst the B40 group, they do not need to fight results with the more privileged students whom as Anwar puts it has the best education support). Isn't this a fairer system?

As a Malaysian Chinese i had and is still very supportive of Anwar. He is one Malaysian leader who dares to tread where others dare not and speak out when others prefer to remain dumb. He is open and clean, and has gone through the test of fire (10 years jail + a black eye + sleeping on hard cold concrete bed) where not another Malaysian leader had gone through. When i was working for the largest bumi contractor in our country back in the 1980s, my boss told me Anwar (then the DPM) is incorruptible. My boss knew best as he was then the Penang State Umno treasurer. Yes, i would agree that Anwar needed to be a bit more tactful and patient with the student, but again this sort of question, i am sure, must had been put to him countless times, and he must had been tired of answering the question. To be fair and given the reality of the matter (quota system in our institutions of higher learning) being set for decades by BN and the later ruling coalitions, we cannot and must not expect Anwar to make any drastic changes now or in the immediate future. A slip on this matter would be disastrous and tantamount to political suicide for Anwar and the Unity Government. Let's all be patient and realistic, and allow Anwar and his team a reasonable time to set Malaysia back on the right track before we demand for them to speed the badly long overdue changes that WE ALL deserve!

I waited for 9 months after Anwar took over to see reforms in the discriminatory education system, but now Anwar discloses that the lopsided quota system will remain and ruin the lives of non-Malay students. It is heartbreaking to see the bright non-Malay students' plight go in vain. I salute the students who brought the issue into public, letting the public know the truth and enabling them to make better-informed decisions in elections, rather than blindly voting and expecting good things to happen. the first 5 minutes, i was so angry on PMX's response to the girl, its seem too rude. but after explanation, PMX clearly explain the situation and how and what we should achieve. And she asked stupid question, I noticed in every dialogues with students the same question will pop up, like it's already scripted, obviously she doesn't know abt what social contract is and yet demanded to abolish the meritocracy, minorities of 6-7% expect to be excepted every single of them? even there are many malays are being denied for matriculation because they too have to compete with each other in terms of qualifying results and the nons always thinks they are the best of the best and always playing racial card on almost everything. As malaysian she should study more on Malaysia's history and what is social contract all about and being living abroad for many2 years, these are the same people (not all) who talk bad things abt Malaysia all the time!!

No matter what reason, education is the backbone of the country. You may judge yourself how is the performance of the fresh graduates. Our uni ranking compare to nearest Singapore is far behind, that is the best indication of our competitiveness.

It's great for to have a leader who's opened for questions... Similarly we who questioned should be opened for answers...

Soalan ni sbenarnya da berzaman bersilih ganti PM orang bertanyakan tentang Meritokrasi..tapi isu ni tak dijelaskan sebaiknya malah politician pula ambil chance politikkan isu ni..Meritokrasi bukan tak dilaksanakan tapi execute by stages in accord with the constitution by the government but those extremist so selfish insist to get it secure by amend the constitution. no mean no la, dont test toleransi antara warganegara..lets educate our young so they dont get involve into confusion and live in harmony

Isu meritokrasi adalah berasaskan pencapaian. Jika anak Tuan mencapai keputusan cemerlang tetapi tidak ditempatkan ke Matrikulasi mahu pun YTP Mara, mau pun mana tawaran, apakah perasaan Tuan? Fikirkan perasaan seorang budak yg telah bertungkus lumus utk mencapai keputusan tersebut. Sekiranya Tuan terpaksa menjawab kpd anak Tuan, "sudahlah nak, anda bukan bumiputera, takde lah peluang tersebut" Apakah rasanya anak Tuan akan jawab?

No Bullying Here. Anwar is stating the FACT! Non-bumi need to accept this. Such enthic quota can actually make the non-bumi stronger in one's lives as we have to work harder to achieve what we want. It also train us to be more independent and non-reliance on our government. We just need government to work harder for our economy and make everyone's life easier. then you better pray and make sure you have at least half a million ringgit set aside to send your children to local private institutions or at least 1-2 million to send your children to UK, US, Canada, Australia and NZ or even Japan/Korea/China/Russia/India.

We shared similar experiences and frustrations with the young lady during our study lives. Knowing that your results are far better than others but have been rejected for further tertiary education. Instead of harping on Malay special privileges and social contracts, the NEW government can increase allocation to expand and enhance infrastructure for matriculation courses. As the pie grows bigger, everyone will get a fair share, and there will be fewer complaints. Secondly, maintain the current quota intake at existing universities, but we can establish at least two totally new universities where the intake will be based on meritocracy. Thirdly, build more semi-government universities to cater for those who have been declined entry due to the present quota system.

"Meritocracy is a flawed argument if you don't talk about fairness" I don't think I have ever heard a Malaysian prime minister respond on issues regarding school quotas in such an eloquent and affirmative way. I think the students who were present today have certainly been blessed to hear it in person. I am grateful to be alive in a time where I can witness such a great person leading our country.

Problem with quota policy is that it is not based on income levels of families regardless of race. Rich malay students getting government scholarships to study overseas but poor outstanding Chinese and Indian students can't get access to government funds. Same with housing. Quota policy should be based on income levels, not race.

It is very easy to understand what the PMX said. Quota must be in place otherwise the Bumiputera who is the majority in this country will not support the government. If the Bumiputera don't support the government and vote for the PN who are mostly the Malays, and PN rule the country the rights of non bumiputera will totally abolished. The non bumiputera will suffer more. We must balance between the social contract that we have agreed long time ago when we accept Indian and Chinese to get nationality of Malaysia. No countries in this world in which the majority race in that country will give their right to others. That's the fact.

PM had to cut off her questions for her own good before irresponsible content maker cut out that clip and turn it into racism bullets.. With that brief answer, it answered well too other questions like why PKR had to work with corrupted politicians even temporarily, why good policies are not being implemented yet; the government is still finding supports to be stable. Everyone wants results now but nobody willing to take the bullets.

Meritocracy will disadvantage the have not, regardless. Leveling the playing field will benefit everyone .

We should be leveling the playing field at a far younger age, at the school level. Not at the university level. Higher education like universities should not be paying the price of incompetent schools by rejecting brighter students. Incompetence at the school level should be resolved at the school level, not giving preferential treatment at the university level.

You guys must do some sejarah research as our dearest pm said... For 66 years malays got all the rights and all the opportunities to raise up but until now is left behind means sure something is wrong... Left behind is Rakyat Melayu and the people who incharge of bringing them up for 66years is well settled... This kind never seen the bigger picture in life. Can't even compete with own race & then blame the other race. You think China & India(country) will give free privilege's to malay(bumi) just because he/she was born there ? how is that fair. Malaysia give so much to chinese&indian here, but they(Motherland) never give the malay the special OKU school like them. Got any bumiputera school/special bumiputera quoata on those countries ke ? because once you gave away the quota advantage, the malays vote will turn against him and everything will be back to square one. you'd get PN+PAS as the central gomen and they would assume all the chinese are rich and all the indians are drunkard and none of the non-bumis will get to enter the public unis and the rest i leave it to your imagination. i'm a malay myself and i will still vote for PH, but i can't guarentee the others will do the same especially since the parliamentary seats spreads more towards the less developed areas where the majority voters are kampung malays and orang asli bumis especially in sabah and sarawak.

I’m a Malay, very fortunate to have a son obtained 10As in his SPM. Despite applying for scholarships and attempting to get accepted into IPTA. he was not successful, and as a result, he is now studying in IPTS. I understand that there might be various factors contributing to this situation. As a Muslim, I am deeply grateful for the providence given by God, understanding that He guides our paths, even though I have observed there are students from different races comparatively receiving better opportunities. Franky its a bit disturbing for me hearing this kid making such simplistic assumption about bumiputra simply getting help although with just 1A, 2As, 3As with C and D...

@@XDLBY with all due respect, i think your are missing the point from @morpheus 5553. he/she was saying that bumi or non bumi will not ensure acceptance in IPTA. Anwar said himself that meritocracy is a flawed conception if the playing field is not same for everyone. we should not simply resort to bumi/non bumi argument whenever one's fail to get a place into IPTA because eventually even the meritorious bumi also do not get the place.

Appreciate our pmx, the student have to understand the situation in this country.

In Singapore, no student is left behind bcos of race or religion! My government puts in 💯% effort to help everyone complete the education marathon. And there are hundreds 9f foreign students studying here Like one Malaysian Malay journalist said, "Give the man the power, and you can see his True Colour!". Anwar is showing his colour!

The Q&A has to be done in a controlled manner. Many time I've seen this issue in these Q&A series. If everyone drags their question, then not many questions can be brought forward. Just ask the damn question. Don't take too long. Also please don't ask stupid questions!!! Kena tahu tentang sejarah is being a role of a student. What Anwar mentioned here is timing issue. You want a quick fix, you wait for stability to be achieved first. Especially when our political turmoil and national image has been heavily tarnished since a decade ago.

Hopefully in years to come, the audience could be more mature throughout the nation. You could digest what Anwar mentioned by writing down the pointers he made at a clearer picture. Bear in mind, he is not anti other race. He is working on being fair to all in accordance with the stipulated legislation. Since the first sesi dialog months ago until today, students are urged to go straight to the question. So apparently this lady is questioning about abolishing bumiputera rights. That question alone shows her ignorance to the whole contemporary situation of national political climate. It also shows that she didn't watched the previous sessions done elsewhere just because it's not her homework. But Anwar didn't reject her the moment she dropped that bombshell. He asked her to go straight to her real question because he didn't expect the same question. Then she resume by 'saya mahu memberi justifikasi kpd...' As you can see, clearly she already asked the intended question which she should kept it short without any long-winded story. So many similar question about this topic weeks back from previous temu bual or sesi dialog and still we are stuck with this topic. Anwar urged the rakyat to follow his Q&A tour from media platforms as he emphasized "I understand.... Kalau you follow temu Anwar, ada yg tanya soalan tu saya (sudah) jawab. Lain kali follow this... " It's impossible to provide a realistic answer to your question isn't it. One year? Two year? Unfortunately he was always referred with such immature feedback similar to like asking bila harga nak turun when the explanation has been provided countless times... In fact, the young lady should hold her head up high for this rare opportunity. She would know there's nothing to be ashamed of. Hopefully she would mature up from this experience. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. She and everyone else should start following his Q&A tour and be less apolitical in interest.

Every questions should be appreciated by the politician bcos tat is the questions related to them n their votes, no matter being asked for how many times. PMX saved her by stopping her early

I can see that most of the questions regarding quota in public universities are asked by Indians. You lot should know better that there is no way under this or even the next, next or next generation of Malay citizen in this country will allow this to happen. In the age of Tik Tok, KZread, IG, ChatGPT and climate change, a paper qualification in tertiary education is no longer a guarantee of employment. The people needs to move ahead of time. I am not saying that paper qualification is not important but one should not limit yourself to only public university. Vocational education can be promising and other technical skills which will not be disrupted by AI. Until a time where majority of Malaysians reached the kind of wisdom where they no longer see or play 3R card in politics, education, economy and social, the quota in public university entrance will still be around for awhile.

To this day, everyone is talking about supporting Indians, supporting Malays, supporting Chinese... No one say, those who deserve help need to be helped... there are poor people in all races... gov should help all of them, irrespective of race or religion

We need action not answer.This is bullying the whole community.

Kalau orang Melayu tak mundur, tak miskin dan senang mcm Cina, maka tak ada masalah nak buat sistem meritocracy. Lagi satu Malaysia dipecahkan kepada tiga aliran sekolah. Kalau nak meritocracy, hapuskan semua aliran sekolah berasaskan kaum dan hanya benarkan sekolah kebangsaan. Baru betul sama rata mcm Indonesia dan Thailand

Good and reasonable answer from PMX but he could have used a gentler tone with that very brave student. To the young lady, don't be discouraged. Keep asking the tough questions. Kudos to you! 🎉

That's not "fairness" when you deny further education to students who do well based on race and religion. Wouldn't it be a better strategy to provide funding to poor areas and elevate their competence to a level where they can compete with students across the country?

A shameful way as a PM to handle the question from a teenager. He is not even allowing her to speak further. Shameful !

This is at least a honest answer and takes into account the political realities in the country. All should think carefully before even asking questions!

Kido this is not smart question the way you ask it looks like you dont know anything about perlembagaan negara malaysia..Thats why pm said you need to know history first before asking this type of question

A well asked question by the student but our PM answer was not to a student but more to a political adversary. His tone must be softer and melodious not harsh. Learn from mistakes.

Too young to understand this country. But can understand why she will ask this question as normal human being sure will feel very tired and not fair. But hopefully in future this country really can stop set quota especially when most malay area out of proverty. This is because healthy competitive is nessacry and good for country development.

PM Anwar answered brilliantly. Watch the whole video. He said dont talk about quota if you are referring to justice. Justice means giving equal opportunity to all including the poor. Poor students may not score high but they need the seat to improve their life. Meritocracy is ideal

We don't know the result of poor rural student. But, within same school in KL, Rich Bumi 4A get offer, straight A poor non Bumi don't get offer. It's a clear oppression.

Meritocracy is an exaggerated virtue. I would suggest that we consider other philosophical perspectives: utilitarian, libertarian and Rawlsian principles, to name a few.

'Nothing lose to choose Muda to b representatives, it wont affect the final leadership of the country' + Muda wan elites education system. If PM wan every residents ( esp 18yo voters and their parents) to understand their hardship, then dont give blank cheque on education system in the beginning.

If the Quota system really benefit the poor, I'll support. But, if Rich Bumi using the Quota by sidelining the poor Bumi, that's where problem start. Plus, politicians misusing quota for their cronies

Rohingya yg dihalau myanmar beranak di Malaysia sudah bergenerasi pon nak hak sama rata, hak kewarganegaraan. Nak tanah. Nak meniaga. Nak free education. Ada yg jd kontraktor. Bawa masuk byk2 orang asing yg tak faham sosial kontrak mmg akan masalah. Bumiputra sudah byk tolak ansur boleh jd warganegara, bekerja, hak mengundi, jd tokey hartanah, jadi menteri. BUMI sendiri pon tak dpt semua berapa byk yg tak dapat peluang pendidikan yg lebih baik, berapa byk yg tak ada rumah tak mampu beli hartanah. Tak payah la nak play victim dan mempersoalkan apa yg termaksub dalam perlembagaan. Betul kata anwar cara soalan tu boleh diolah dengan lebih baik.

though i am not in alignment with his political siding, I agreed with PMX ! please do not ever question the social contract that have been agreed long time ago..., for whom (Chinese & Indian) who are old enough and of course wise enough, educate your childrens, teach them to respect the "hak - hak keistimewaan orang melayu, The bumiputera"..., because bumiputera, the indigenous, since the very beginning of the formation of Malaysia , never ever treated chinese or indian as an outsider... we always treated all of you as our fellow countryman, you are all free to live and free to do almost everything without questioning your rights as citizen... because of that, respect our rights in return!... is that too much to ask?

This not first time. Previously a young chinese boy also treated similarly. It's not about the question, but the way he treats them as if his trying to show his ultra side, maybe to attract opposition votes, while using fear mongering tactics to keep minorities in line. Minorities had started feeling he turned his back on them as soon he embraced his former rival parti. Not forget minorities are still his largest voters, a major challenge to opposition. If he continues this way, his coalition members might start worrying about their own political survival next election and loses faith in him leading them. Once he unable to retain his position, his new partners most likely abandoned him too, just like they did to muhyiddin.

Don't be another naive youngster la. You don't have a choice. You can either vote for PN/Pas or choose not to vote. Both ways you still LOSE BIGTIME as a minority under Muhyiddin or Hadi. Anwar is still the best person to lead Malaysia and at least he's trying to make Malaysia a better place for everyone but it has to be gradual as the Malay vote is of paramount importance. I don't see anything about bullying. DSAI interrupted only because the girl was so nervous to point of tearing up, and because the question is not new. During DSAI's explanation the girl was trying to defend herself, which there was no need. DSAI was showing her the big picture. As usual this is being blown out of proportion.

I don’t see it a bully at all. He saying it as is. And also it helps the students to think critically before even asking about a particular question. What Anwar said is true. I would prefer to have an affirmative actions in place rather than having a ‘taliban’ to govern the country.

It's how he cut short her asking of her question and talked down to her with a condescending tone. That's not good for optics in this day & age of the Internet. He should not have kept interrupting, let her ask freely and complete her questioning. Then he should answer in a calm tone and stop attacking her for assuming she's thinking unjustly. Don't get me wrong, I agree with Anwar's answer and his handling of this very sensitive issue.

But she took quite awhile to ask her question. I was watching throughout the whole program. Plus the same question had been answered previously in a different session with PMX with students

Isu kuota pendidikan ini amat sensitif di Malaysia sbb keperluan kuota utk bumiputera telah termaktub dlm Perlembagaan. Namun, peratus dan garis panduan dlm pembahagian kuota itu mungkin boleh diteliti semula. Sesiapa saja yg menjadi kerajaan yg cuba utk menukar Perlembagaan akan berdepan dgn tentangan politik yg mencabar. Malaysia belum lg bersedia buat masa kini. Jika nak dibuat pun, ia perlu melalui kerelaan golongan bumiputera itu sendiri. Jadi nasihat saya buat pelajar2 bukan bumiputera, jadikan lah ini sbg pedoman dan cabaran buat diri utk lebih gigih berusaha tanpa diberi tongkat

Mudahnya sembang bab kuota ya...hapuskan dulu SKJK Tamil,SKJK Cina...tak kira peringkat rendah ke menengah ke...dah settle semua tu baru bule sembang bab kuota Matrikulasi...nak keistimewaan sangat kan...tak pun mohon dari Kerajaan buka IPTA jenis Kebangsaan Tamil dan Jenis Kebangsaan Cina...bule camtu...adoi betol apa yang dia tanya dan apa yang dia rasa...tapi dia belajar sejarah ke tak???I'm not try to be a racist here but I try to say a fact...jangan nanti seperti pepatah Melayu mengatakan dah diberi betis nak peha plak dah dapat peha nak dada pulak...

And who remembers? To turn Malaysia into an extremely racist country, they kicked out Singapore with majority chinese. Many Malays were not racist and would vote for chinese. PAP’s Lee Kuan Yew could’ve won, turned Malaysia into a superpower today. Remember the constitution and social contract, and HOW the racists caused it to be racist.
