Antonov 26 Departure. Crank the speakers moderately up!

We see this aircraft starting up at Luchthaven Antwerpen and departing to Torino, after delivery of some freight. My apologies for not using the tripod, I didn't have time to set it up :).

I love the sound that the props make. They make the "Box Fan" sound in full idle speed and taxiing. In takeoff and inflight, they make the "Bumblebee" sound, creating the bass hum and vibration heard inside the cabin. When I first heard the word "Turboprop", I thought it was a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine. However, when I saw and heard it fire up, I could hear the jet whine as the propeller started to rotate and gain speed. That's what gave away the fact that it was a jet engine with a propeller attached. I could also smell the jet exhaust, which smells just like diesel exhaust.

in the straight on view of the static aircraft at the beginning of the video this plane bears an uncommon resemblance to the Baltimore Whore, a/k/a B-26 Marauder. Course the An-26 has a longer wingspan, thus not quite the same as the short winged Baltimore Whore. I always thought the B-26 was the best looking bomber of WWII, followed closely by the Lancaster and then the chin turret model (later models in terms of production) B-24 and B-17. The An is a sharp looking bird.

I flew in one of these hogs from Bucharest to Timosoara in 1995. Very crude. Had a flight engineer in addition to the captain and the FO. It was in the summer and there was air so hot flowing through a duct that was along the inside of the fuselage that I had to lean away from it. I was in the window seat. Good example of the crude, utilitarian mindset of the communist block countries in the 50's and 60's. As soon as the Romanians were able, they flushed these turds and bought Dash-8's for their domestic fleet.
