Aside from other outstanding vivaldian interpreters, Yehudi Menuhin made, from my point of view, with il Piaccere, one the best Vivaldian recording, showing that he might indeed be the best of XXth violinists not for his technique because at this level best violinists are almost equal, but for mastering any work or any repertoire as if he were the very best specialist. Still, he did it wonderfully with a modern set violin. A baroque but nevertheless as much powerfull interpretation is still missing and Alana would make a wonderfull Piaccere baroque version if I dare to suggest... As this would be the case with the other concerti "con titoli".

Vivaldi must have had it in for violinists for making it so difficult for the soloists. Either that or he enjoyed the long periods it must have taken the asthmatic priest to score this work. Lots of fiddly bits for the days when you had to refill your quill every couple of scratches on the manuscript.

Hi Mike, most of these instruments are copies of the originals. A few artists are lucky enough to play original instruments, and those are strings. Wind instruments become too fragile because of the humidity of breathe.

Ars Lyrica Houston Thank you for your answer ALH. It’s amazing how well the strings last, given the physical use they undergo. I am a saxophonist, and have several ‘older’ instruments, my favorite being a Martin Alto Saxophone...made way back in the nineteen-fifties!

Intonation sounds fine to me. Just remember she is playing gut strings - amazing how clean and in tune she manages to play.

Thank you for your reply @@dhat1607 I listend to it again... in my ears she is constantly 1/5 to 1/4 tone flat.. I guess I'm being to picky.. (something else I've noticed for some time.. specially in non pro choruses, the female artists tend to be flat. I wonder if there is something physiological involved)
