Salieri was only 21 years old when this ouverture was written (ostensibly modell’d after studying Gluck’s score in great detail) so it could be regarded as a late student piece - but displays a melodic richness with a mark’d confidence in expression which is remarkable in such a young composer just starting out his operatic career which spanned over 50 years …

He was truly a genius. In many of his pieces you can hear hints of romanticism. I think without him, Beethoven would've never become so great.

​@@axlblack8729Beethoven just studied the italian style of composing arias with salieri but not instrumental compositions. Beethoven was born as a great composer

@@klausimausischmidt5791 well, salieri's 26 variations of La Folia had a great influence on Beethoven's motifs from his Ninth symphony so I wouldn't say that so confidently

This was one of Salieri’s early successes and was written in the style of Gluck. He was not yet 21, still living with Gassmann and writing music that the listeners were already familiar with. Throughout the next decade his operas were part of the ‘house’ repertoire. To the benefit of Salieri, he was an excellent teacher and administrator so he could perform a daily job function. This ability to ‘work’ goes understated when comparing Salieri to freelance artists who didn’t have responsibilities outside of performing or writing music.
