I wasn't keen but a couple of my knife making buddies changed my mind. Before I could just about deal with using antler as spacers but now I like a well chosen piece as a whole handle

I love the look and feel of antler, but for a tool handle, I really have to have it in hand to say I like it or not. The wonderful and unique irregularities that are part of what makes antler so appealing can be the very thing that can feel off in the hand, or the most amazing, perfect handle ever. Yes, you can sand or file it to suit, but that can take a lot away from the antler's character, vs wood, which just continues to expose similar grain and pattern. I guess I'll just have to find out where you are when I cross The Big Pond and head over for the Download 2023 festival and let my hand find the right one out of your selection at the time. Cheers Ben and Lois, thanks for making such great tools. I've enjoyed putting the ones I already have of yours to work, and these look like they would be fantastic additions 👍. S.L. 🇨🇦👍

Love it! Waiting on my antlers now from back home....my question is about the durability of just using epoxy to hold it on the tang...is it just two part epoxy or something better? Thanks and awesome craftsmanship

Wow, you have an awesome life. You make others happy with what you do in life. I will check out how to buy a knife from you. I'm new to knives and I want to learn to carve knives. In my comment can you tell me the least expensive way to buy a knife from you. I live in San Diego and my grandniece lives in Montana. Who is you distributor in the USA? I want to get her into carving to. She's 8. Be blessed, Leo 🦁

Great to see you back, beautiful knives as always. Regarding its pet toy uses - It is absolutely horrendous as a dog chew - it’s really bad for their teeth, way too hard and frequently results in tooth fracture. Nobody should buy because it simply is a welfare issue for their dog.

Hey man, I don't buy antler for dog chews, I kill deer to eat and then give the antlers to my dogs. I'm not a trophy hunter, I hunt for food. There is nothing wrong with giving dogs antlers. I get what you're saying about the market for them and whatnot, but don't go telling people it's bad for their pets, because they're not.

@@pollauritsabrahamsenjq1618 at 1:36 he says they aren't good for pet chews. I understand his argument, I really do, but understand mine as well. I don't buy them, I harvest them. What I do with my antlers is my business. I'm not in the market to buy them for crafting. You can't make a knife handle for the size knives I make with those anyway. I need elk antler or big bone...

Well I am afraid I disagree with you there, it makes a great handle material for certain tools and knives. Also this whole dog chew thing with antlers is totally killing a lot of craft workers supplies too. Companies that have been buying antlers from estates for years now can’t get them and stick dressers and various other craftspeople can’t get the material. Plus makes terrible dog chews as they can’t digest them.

Antler is a pain in the butt to work with. But it makes beautiful knife handles, thats for sure. I love especially the Scandinavian reindeer antler and curly birch combos. You dont even need any scrimshaw on them to make such a knife look like a treasure.
