Tim Good Morning are you most probably out so I will just carry on, Very interesting has got me thinking, about my running set up worth investigating me thinks. The one thing for me is how it runs in the winter I cycle in all weathers ice snow and sleet, if I lose grip in those conditions that are no good to me, I will do some research. Nice run in the forest saw the deer. see you on the next ride.

I know you apologised for the lack of artistic shots but I thoroughly enjoyed this view. I felt like I was riding with you and I much prefer this type of video. Don’t get me wrong, I love all your content but I like this basic form best. Sometimes the ride gets lost in the drone footage and ride bys for me. Plus I get to enjoy the lovely trails that you have in the UK. Australia and Sydney is lacking in bike paths for the most part so I love riding along with you. 👍🏻

Good Tannus review, interesting, and suspenseful. Neat to hear your conclusion in the end! I was hoping you would have mentioned the tire's performance when using your motor. It's not the perfect race tire, but I tell you, it's nice to not have to check tire pressure when starting a ride, and not being late because of a flat, and not having to carry all the maintenance gear. They are a different kind of tire that I have come to appreciate. Looking forward to your final selection decisions and ongoing reviews.

I add my thanks to the many for your coverage of solid tires Tim. I had never considered them before. Tannus should give you a pair of RED 20" tires in recognition of the great advertising that you are providing. As I mentioned in a previous video comment, I was take by the Tannus Amour tire inserts concept. I am not ready to give away the reliability and reputation of the Marathon Plus, but the Armour inserts seem an interesting hybrid approach. So, my first insert is due to arrive on Monday. It will go on my rear wheel for evaluation - all because of your coverage. "Hear that Tannus?!" I will give feedback on the Amour performance as I gain insight. If the first works out, I will also do the front wheels (all 20" in my case). The one advantage I see the Amour insert providing over the full solid tire, besides ease of installation (I hope!) and some cost savings is the ability to adjust tire pressure for conditions. I realize that this means I still have to check tire pressures on my tires, but that has been a minor requirement so far. And for that, I get an increased resistance to flats and a limited run flat capability if it comes to that. I will continue to carry a spare tube just because I am a belt and suspenders planner. But only one, because of three 20" wheels. :-) Other viewers have asked about wet conditions and cold weather performance. We might have to wait a while for a Northern US or Canadian triker to report on the cold weather performance, but I suspect you will have an opportunity to test wet pavement/trail conditions in the near future Tim. Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks Bob. Although the idea of getting free stuff always sounds awesome I'm very much aware that some companies (and some of my subscribers) might then expect me to give a more favourable representation of the goods involved. I'm more than happy at the moment to provide an honest opinion based on the knowledge that I paid full price for the goods and dont owe the company anything. Too many KZreadrs already on that slippery slope and the first question I ask myself whenever I see a youtube review. Good luck with the Armor inserts. I look forward to hearing how you get on with them.

@@TimsTrikeTrips As always, you make good points Tim. The Tannus Armour insert arrived and I installed it. It is a 20 - 1.75 to 1.95 size. My tires are 1.75 so it took a bit of stuffing to get it into my tire. I used the 1" tube designed for the insert. Marathon Plus tires take a bit of finagling to get on normally. With the insert in place, the last 8" or so of getting the final bead on the rim was a challenge. I inflated, deflated & wiggled the tire back and forth per instructions to align everything. Everything looks normal with no wobble at 60 psi (50-70 recommended). I'm waiting for the wet conditions to dry a little for the first ride. I did the rear 20" wheel only for now. I will vary the pressure to see how it responds. To be continued...

Tannus Armour Update: I took a 13 mile road/gravel trail ride today with the new Armour mounted in my back Marathon Plus tire. I noticed no change in ride on rough surfaces or in turns or increased rolling resistance. My trike runs heavy, so the minuscule increase in weight was not noticeable. I experienced a little tire spin on high-torque starts on a hill on gravel. This was typical before installing the Armour insert also. I will try dropping pressure from the mid-range 60 psi to bottom recommended 50 psi and try the hills again. Some pics of the Tannus Armour insert prior to installation: photos.app.goo.gl/oPmS3sMkkLnuWskB9 With the tire installed on the trike, the appearance is unchanged from pre-installion.

Great video! I too, am considering Tannus tires. I'll be anxious to see what you think when you have them mounted all the way around. I was wondering how many punctures you have had (then you mentioned 4). I'm sure you have been concerned every time you go off road about punctures. I have had 2 deflations. I say that because on 2 occasions I went out to ride and one of my tires was flat. I removed the tire, pumped it up, looked for a puncture but found none. Rode very close to home over the next few days, checking the pressure regularly. No problems. The new week it was another tire, same result. Hmmmm. Tannus airless tires may be a good answer. Thanks for the beautiful ride through the forest.

  • @TimsTrikeTrips

To be honest Bruce, having so few punctures has led to me not really worrying about the actual occurence but more about carrying all the additional tubes, pump and repair kit/tools more than anything else. I like to tour and the more I can reduce the packed weight of my kit the better. The Tannus tire weighs less that the Shwalbe and tube I took off (by about 100g) and then I save all the additional weight in my tool bag too. Its a win win.

Great video through the forest and super review of the Tannus. One quick question on a topic you didn’t mention....do you anticipate that tire and it’s extra drag/resistance having a deleterious effect on your e assist motor and shortening its lifespan? Weather has broken here in New England....70/sunny and magnificent. Golf and triking daily. I am sold on the Schwalbe Marathons and as I ride strictly on paved trails here I don’t see me switching over. Product loyalty! The three flats I have experienced in thousands of miles have all occurred on sidewalks I was riding on adjacent to very busy roadways...as I hit raised uneven seams in the concrete while sipping along at 15-20 mph and oops...I knew I was in deep stuff. All user screwups! 5 minutes to change and I was on my way. After viewing your installation video of the Tannus I decided it was too much struggle for too little gain. Once again...thanks for the great video. Stay healthy. Best wishes.

Good question. To be honest I cant answer MArk. The motor is at the cheaper end of the assist market so I wouldn't expect it to last many 1000's of km. That said I would never know whether the tires made that lifespan shorter (or longer?) I certainly haven't noticed any faster draining of the battery. Hopefully thats a good sign.

I have just switched to Schwalbe race guard on the front of my trike and have noticed a firmer ride. Tanus maybe similar but as my trike has only rear suspension I wonder if Tanus all round might give a firmer ride than I would like. However puncture proof is very tempting, the pondering continues. Hi TIM many thanks for your videos which are thoroughly enjoyable being a fellow trike rider for many years. One thing concerns me before you fit the tanks Tyres all round. As someone mentioned a while back what happens if you brake a spoke. The little pegs which you had to fit into the tyre are only chamfered to push in. It would be interesting to know how difficult it may be to remove a tyre when necessary. Kind regards Ian Oliver.

I found the response to the broken spoke question quite amusing. Apparently you can drill through the tannus tire to replace the spoke (?) Apparently removing the tire isn't easy but still easier than installation. Obviously I haven't had reason to try yet but have found videos on KZread where its being done and doesn't look so bad. Though new pegs would be required if you want to reinstall after.

In my opinion I don't think that you will have any advantage with these tires. I think that on long rides, you will have more disadvantage from it, than advantage. You will not get a puncture, but that small amount is for me not the reason to change. I think that as you ad them also to the front, that you will notice the roll resistance a lot more than you do now. For me is confort and roll resistance very important. Grip also, but I don't really go off road so I have less problems with that. As it where short rides and I would have a lot of punctures, than yes, else not. But that is my opinion. I swapped in the past my off-road tires for onroad on my mountainbike. This because I was riding almost only onroad and I swapped them back for as I was going off road with it. When I stopped off road riding, I stopped with getting mountainbikes and went back to a normal Dutch city bike. I am going to upgrade my tires on my Trike. I didn't expect that my DIY Trike was riding that hood, so I just got cheap ones. But it rides great, do I will order soon other ones and I will do the same on my new Trike that I am going to build. Punctures are no problem for me. I was learned as kid on Joe to fix them. I went yo school on my bike, like most kids out here, so we are used to it.

I would rather not increase the rolling resistance of course but for me its just not enough of a problem to be a deal breaker. If the tyre hadn't improved over the last week or so then theres no way I would have changed the front ones to tannus but we'll just see how it goes.

Good to hear your opinions on the Tannus Tyre. The puncture protection is by far the biggest influence I would reckon - but the 2nd (for me at least) would be how long does it last, and secondary to that, how easy is it to change over - and only time will tell for both of those questions.

I had them on my old bicycle and found them to not ride as smooth but considering to put them on my new HP trike. • @TimsTrikeTrips

Very much more comfortable now than when I first installed it. Though some of that might be due to my having got used to the ride and some due to the tire settling in. They are guaranteed for 7000km and I cant tell you how you tell if its worn out. I guess the tread will be gone or it becomes "soft" or some such. In those circumstances then a stanley knife will remove it pretty quick I would imagine ha ha.

Good question. I've had a few over the years. I have an "Alien II" from Topeak at the moment. It seems to be lasting and does a good job. Maybe a topic for a future video.
