Antiques Hunting amongst Charity Donations!

Ойын-сауық

Meet Marjorie McIntyre the retail manager at St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington. I’ve been asked to start taking a look through the donations made to the charity to spot any likely antiques that might tell an interesting historical story and sell well in auction to raise funds for the hospice.
Hopefully, more videos to follow as we develop a system of char king antiques as they come in

Stores like this one are all over the USA under many names- Goodwill, DAV, Salvation Army and other such. They are great places to find hidden gems! Great video, David!

Well it's great to see a charity being supported but what on earth has happened to the genuine antique shows like Antiques Road Trip, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip and Antiques Road Show on KZread? The only shows on now have been there for years!

Charity shops! Real ones (GoodWill doesn't count,) are my favorite hunting grounds! Putting some of it on eBay is a wise move, to get better prices realized and if you can earn enough to make it worth the effort. (fees are getting seriously out of hand.) If you do get involved, be sure to leave meat on the bone for other dealers.

Loved watching this David. Having worked as a volunteer in charity shops years ago.. I could write a book on some of the encounters. This is a great insight. As ever your material is always fascinating.

Great work David your Channel has really expanded since you started and I was watching . Remember our Range Rover exchanges of info?. I have just this moment finished making a video about CD's and charity shops.I have noticed recently that the number of IKEA Gdenby CD towers have declined in charity shops. I used to be able to pick them up for no more than £10.00 each. A great way to store CD's . I guess more people are streaming off Spotify etc. I'm told that IKEA have ceased production of them. Keep on Rockin David.

I purchased an item through one of these charity shops on eBay. (Not this one you are supporting). They sold the item as bronze, however it turned out to be resin. Okay, I got my money back, they got their item back…….only to see the same item, same charity listing it a few days later as bronze on eBay again. I sent them a message telling them this, only to be blanked. I know they aren’t experts, but surely to god when someone sends something back as wrongly described they should surely alter their description accordingly. I think twice now before buying from a charity seller on eBay. Well done on your help to them though.

I love a good snoop through a thrift shop (what we call them here). Hubby volunteers in the "Interfaith Food Bank" one and really enjoys it. We've pretty much furnished our home from thrift stores... and it doesn't look 'rag tag' either. We prefer old to new in many things because it's often better made. As for "America" versus Canada.... you have to remember they have 10 times the population to us... and most of our cities are right along the border. So, the number of pins looked about right to me.

Working with the charity is a great move. I loved going to charity stores, but here they are now pricing their stuff so high a lot of people find some of them too expensive to shop in. I have seen prices higher than you would find on eBay or in antique shops. Pity really, several people turned to reselling to supplement their pensions, etc and now can't do that, so instead become clients of the very charities they could have helped support. What was the testing room, testing for? Missed the name.
