Antique Jaw Crusher Bearing Repair
Ғылым және технология
@mineoperator is forced to repair a failed main bearing on the Pitman Jaw. Without this machine, we can not run gold ore. The team comes together and finishes the job. It's time to get back to running gold ore. The system has been without it since October. Stay tuned.

It's amazing how many memories we have made overcoming what has appeared insurmountable obstacles. You'll get a kick out of the Riverdance Mini-Jigs. Our mining momma loves to cook for guests so come with an appetite 😉.

OH NOOOO! The 1st thing I noticed when you pulled the 1st bearing off is the shaft is NOT STRAIT! ☹️🤒 The wear is a slight V shaped bow and not U shaped. So if you have problems in the future check how straight the shaft is. I'm typing this before reading any comments or watching the whole video so MY problem shooting won't be prejudiced. Living the GOLD FEVER 🤒 through you! 😊 💖 from Minnesota
You should hire Alan from Mt. fortress in Utah to fix it. He's a wizard with old machinery.

Copy that! Thank you for referring us to Alan.
They don't make things like they use to! And being a miner it's about improvising, that's just part of it! Been watching Jason for years, now I've got more! Love it all, keep it happening! ⚒️⚖️💪🤠
I love that you don’t dumb it down for the viewers
Awesome stuff thanks for sharing heavy pans
great job, it's a crushing time boys.....
You guys are awesome. Great video.
Good video, and a lot of know how.
Great Effort....Stay Safe
Good to see it back up and running! Best of luck to getting everything processed now with no more breakdowns. Looking forward to your next video!

John, thank you. We appreciate you letting us know and we may need to take you up on your offer. Expect a call from our team very soon as we would like your assistance on bulk sampling a large vs small quartz vein. I'm aiming to attend AEG later spring, early summer.

WAITED ALL WEEK TO SEE YOUR PROGRESS!!! \(^_^)/
Awesome got the jaw going. You lucked out with the babbit bearings. I called 3 places that have made parts for me. 2 didnt deal with brass and the third who did deal with brass asked me 100 questions about owners manual and specs. I hope those pins hold the bearings in place. My jaw is over twuce that size i hope the bearings are good. Ill find out this spring. Got some pointers from harry in this video. That was great. Get some gold no let me rephase that get alot of gold

Ethan, we are so happy to hear that this video provided you with some take-aways. We wish you the best with your crusher. We'll give Michael a call in Rialto CA and learn what it'll take to replace these in the future.

3:30 Upon analysis of the housing, I am thinking that there is supposed to be a lard [or whale oil] soaked cotton, or felt rope packed into those grooves to 1, hold lubricant in place, and 2, keep abrasive grit off of the ORIGINAL bearings. I could be wrong, but I have seen this on other machines before, so it is something I have had experience with in the past, therefore, it is my first 'knee-jerk-reaction' when I saw beneath the brass/bronze bushings.

Mine is set up for 50 weight, with what used to be called cotton "waste".It allows the oil to slowly drip into the bearing. I think grease on that bearing is a no no. The side shaft bearings can be grease, due to Tin almost needing no lubrication. Hopefully it doesn't fail.
You know, if you just bought all new equipment from Mount Baker Mining and Metal... LOL

Lol, that conversation has come up a few times.
I feel so ripped off. I have bought several tool sets over the years. Never once have they included a flat tipped spoon!
Did yall put the wood shims back in?
@mineoperator

We did custom shims on the collar bearings but took them out for the main Eccentric shaft bearing from the Pitman jaw. There is no more meat left on the babbitt.
You need to grease more often have been in your industry for 50 years. When you opened it I seen it . Wast the grease and save the machine. I rebuild cone and jaw crushers for a living. Big one's really big .

The original main bearing was oiled with gear oil, and the newer Babbitt had grease fittings added; after disassembly, we found the oil bath never made it to the bearings as there were no ports in the Babbitt. The grease fitting did not port properly. Harry added three points to grease the eccentric shaft bearing. Fingers crossed.
I don’t know much so forgive me. Is there no rollers or ball bearings? It looks like a giant pin or axle covered in grease surrounded by two half pipes. Is this how it was done back then? If so r u worried about thermal viscosity.
@mineoperator

That is correct; the old babbitt would have been tin-lead alloy of some type. No roller bearings. I am not worried about thermal viscosity as we never run this jaw more than a few hours. If the grease burns up we are only loosing babbitt and not shaft metal.
