Antique Home Decor Super Store! | Vintage Shopping Adventure

Of all the antique store fronts in the vintage shopping mecca of Centralia, Washington, this is my #1 go-to place! Tower Avenue Antiques fills three floors of the town's 1915 JC Penney building with a huge variety of offerings from top-flight vintage dealers, in a building where many of these items originally sold new back in the day!
"USA Today" named Centralia one of the Top 10 Antiquing Towns in America, and this anchor mall between the Northwest's two largest cities shows you why! From the people who literally wrote the book on Shelley China to nationally recognized dealers in vintage uranium glass, bakelite and Juliana jewelry and long-time professional antique dealers offering everything from Royalty commemoratives and western gear to fabulously repurposed vintage lighting, this place is full of sights to whet the collector's appetite for really cool collectibles!
Best of all, there's a surprising amount of stuff priced for dealers to buy and flip for a profit elsewhere, thanks to overflow areas with pottery and stoneware bargains, antique furniture deals (an antique side-by-side for under $300?!), a showcase where a McCoy smiley face bank is under $10 (sorry, that one's coming with me!), and a great vintage variety that makes this a fun place for resellers as well as serious collectors. I'm so excited by this place that I even sell here myself...you'll have to watch my recent "How Do I Choose" video to see all that!
Here's more of the great stuff you will see in this vintage showcase that brings people to shop from all over the region:
Pretty Polly Doric & Pansy child's set, 1950s Frenchie condiment set, Vaseline glass candlestick holders, Sabino glass figures, Goebel Friar and Cardinal ware, English chintz dinnerware, Tiffin satin glass candlesticks, brass floor height candlestick lamps, 1960s pendant and swag lamps, fireman's hat, Australian WWII military hat, WWII German police helmet, papier-mâché Easter Eggs, Red WIng Dutch girl cookie jar, Mission revival chair, Italian cat bank, 1980s MCM mod hall table, Fostoria Coin, steamer trunk, Fairbanks scale, Morgantown ruby golf ball stemware, 1920s beaded purse, US Coast Guard sign, 1920s cash register, glass insulators, 1940s freezer ad placards, Fenton rosalene floral vase, WWII wood jewelry, Renoir/Matisse copper jewelry, Siamese jewelry, vintage bar and kitchen stools, Heisey nut cups, Edna Hibel plate, Japanese figural 1920s bisque teapots, 1940s Japanese Lacquer dresser box, Chinese papier-mâché antique dragon fortune sticks/holder, Japanese saki bottles, Doulton stoneware staple repaired pitcher, Big Bang cannon, ad watch fobs, cast iron buffalo bank, BN railroad lantern, scientific instruments, police badges, English brass push-up candlesticks, 1930s smoking stand, turquoise jewelry, pack saddle, spurs, folk art painted scenic tray, 1870s marble top dresser, Santa nodder, Stanley Hagler pin, Venetian bead strand, Ghana Ashangi chair, 1910s pickled bamboo shelf, Alamo Pottery, etc.

    Probably 30 years ago, I bought 3 chartreuse satin glass candlesticks of different designs at 3 different locations. Since that time, I have never even seen any for sale - except in your video! Sadly, I let mine go with many other lovely vintage pieces bc my then-husband's tastes didn't include them... (I think I should have kept my very pretty candlesticks and let go of the other thing!) 😢

    "Staple repair " is a magic word. Some folks collect things just for the repairs. I like pieces that were worth less than the repair cost. That means there's a story. In the past, when I went to flea markets etc, I looked for the oddballs on a dealer's stall. I called it buying jewelry from the toy dealer and toys from the hardware guy. (And it was always a guy.) The stuff didn't belong there and they wanted it gone.

Andrea's jewelry display case drove me nuts, as did the one at 23:46 with the black many-points necklace shown on the display form. Good evening, George! I liked the roadrunner pin/brooch in the showcase. That pond boat, on top of the old trunk, caught my eye. It looked like a nice one, and it had a good size. That marine lamp was really nice! Did you get that one? That definitely was a good price on it. Those old iceboxes are really good to store dry goods. I have a white one with wood shelves in it, but nowhere in the house to put it...won't get rid of it, though. Loved the pickled bamboo shelf! I really like the old whiteware pottery, but don't see a lot of it anymore. I like the smooth, satiny finish on the old whiteware. That looked to be a super-nice place to browse and shop! There would've definitely been many items there with my fingerprints left on them 😂 Thanks for the tour!!!

  • @TheAntiqueNomad

    @TheAntiqueNomad

    I forgot to get the marine lamp and am kicking myself, the chances of it still being there are slim but when I saw this I made a note to call them tomorrow to ask! I like old iceboxes and have suggested that they can be fitted as wine storage as well. You and I share the pickled bamboo interest! I've seen a bit more white ware now that Martha Stewart likes it, seems to be coming out of old collections? It really is a wonderful mall and I was thrilled to show it to you!

  • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

    @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

    Жыл бұрын

    @@TheAntiqueNomad Ohhh...I bet you are kicking yourself over that marine lamp 😬 Maybe it will still be there when you ring them about it! I've not seen another icebox like the one I have. I don't have a clue as to when it was made, but I'm guessing it was sometime at the point they were going out of style and electric refrigerators were taking over. It's shaped like a 1940s...I guess...refrigerator, and it has wood racks/shelves in it that are painted that old 😝 green that seems to have been so popular in the '30s and '40s. It has one main door, and there is a metal compartment for the ice inside the main body of it. There is a peaked/tapered wood rack the ice sat on, inside that compartment, with a drainpipe that runs down the back to a space underneath it. There is a small door at the bottom to be able to remove a drip pan that would've collected the melt water. It's covered up, out in the garage, since there's no space for it inside the house. That won't be another piece I'll regret getting rid of, though - it's not going anywhere. That Victorian pickled bamboo can easily fit into pretty much any decor. I've had one piece of it, (a corner chair), and I wish I'd never sold it. I bought it at a yard sale, and I think I paid $10.00 or $15.00 for it...can't remember for how much I sold it. I used to have quite a bit of the whiteware. Mostly the urn-shaped, double-handled vases. All of that was sold almost a decade ago, though. I'd had it for years, so I got it at ridiculously low prices, ($0.25 - $0.50 each), mostly at flea markets and thrift stores. Once the "Martha finger" gets pointed at something, though, the prices do tend to go up a bit 😆 That is, indeed, a really super-nice mall!

    Hey Loretta has found a big ole box of Xeno's Glamor Shots pictures from his Atlanta days and wants to know if he still might have any Dippity Doo or White Rain still. It's just so difficult to get a good bouffant updo using all these new hair products. Loretta and Miss Ima Mann are pleased with the Holiday Fashion Show that they put on at the Antique Emporium. Xeno is completely sold out of his Frederick's of Hollywood collection with the exception of the fishnet pantyhose that Buster and Elmer used to go trout lining down at the creek. I don't think that Elmer was quite understanding of the idea, but not wanting to upset Buster, wore them anyway. Loretta was going to put a bow on your Christmas present, but decided it made her skirt fit funny. Bless her heart for trying, but she just not barking up the wrong tree, she ain't even in the right forest. Ho Ho Ho!

    Lol! Xeno is not sure how you knew about his Atlanta days, but he had some all right. Loretta and I didn't know him then, but I think he saw Elmer lining more than his trout with them. Loretta means well but she's in a cactus desert on that one. Ho indeed!

    @@TheAntiqueNomad Everyone knows about Xeno's Atlanta exploits. Why do you think that the Virginia Highlands were known as Vaseline Valley?

    @22:52 the basket in front of the funky tray with basket trim, do you know anything about where it's from?

    It appears to be a Northwest native market basket from the early 1900s, likely Salish (Quinault perhaps)

    Hi, I have two railroad lanterns just like the one you showed but my husband electrified them. Did that lower their value?

  • @TheAntiqueNomad

    It depends how he did it. If he threaded the wired through a gap and placed a socket in the inner wick without drilling it, the value isn't harmed (best if he kept the original wick and mantel somewhere). Otherwise it isn't a good thing for value

  • @TheAntiqueNomad

    They were blown glass bowls set in silverplate frames with handles that were often a present for a new bride as a fancy centerpiece in the Victorian era

    Great video! What is your take on alpaca silver? Is it real sterling silver?

  • @TheAntiqueNomad

    @TheAntiqueNomad

    Alpaca is not silver at all, it is an alloy of nickel & zinc (usually over copper) used to pretend to be silver

    Thinking I hope you don't have authority when your videos post. In my area it posted at the same time as President of Ukraine spoke to the US Congress. That was more important to me. I'm watching your video now though.
