Antique Edwardian Longbow Arrows made by Purle

We see various sets of Arrows come in for refurbishment or repair, Edwardian, Victorian and modern, but rarely in their original box with all the postage stamps and still in ownership of the family it was originally sent to! I thought you would like to see these amazing Arrows for the English Longbow made by Purle, presumably made around 1908 going by the two dates on the box, the pine shafts have gone a lovely rich red type colour, hard to tell if the nocks are horn insert nocks or a very dark wood, both were used. These Arrows are footed and not surprisingly they are very well made, its quite possible these are also the original feathers, obviously not in the best condition but nice to see a set that hasn't been messed about with and are obviously of great sentimental value to the owner, thanks to them for letting me film and show the set to you.

They certainly look finer made than most arrows you'd find on the market today. They've got a certain charm to them.

Matter of interest, is it advisable to refurbish these arrows? I don’t know if there’s antique value in archery items like this, but if there is, that might muddy the water.

I have refurbished many sets for people over the years, it's a very personal thing, I will leave that decision up to you.

I see the fletchings are glued, what glue would they have used a hundred years ago, I can't imagine they had quick setting super glue like we do now?
