Anti-Theft Device Keeps Shopping Carts on the Job
Ғылым және технология
Shopping cart wheels are made from the same material as roller coaster wheels. Every cart must be tough enough to haul groceries for a decade. At a cost of $100 each, shop owners are keen to keep these rugged buggies on the job. Meet the hidden device that helps keep them out of the hands of thieves and close to home.

And if so what kind of frequency? Is it 13.56mhz like the store door sensors. Idiot video for dumbasses. First have was useless bullshit.

Almost everyone that steals a cart is either homeless or poor and without a cart. When I was a kid we were poor and we kept a Safeway cart to push to and from the store. This was back when Safeway was cheap. When my parents moved we took the cart back.

Yes it is due to our sinful nature, that's why we have thieves. to anyone who has stolen, you have sinned, but you can be forgiven by God but even if we don't steal we still have that nature (we do small sins everyday) and God's standards are so high that if you sin you are on hell's (hell is a horrible place) trajectory God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins and anyone who trusts that Jesus is what saves (he will change your trajectory to eternal life with him in heaven (an awesome place, that we can't begin to imagine)) Praise God so yes there is hope for us, I just hope the Holy Spirit has his hands on your shoulder when you read this (because our sinful nature will cause unbelief) I pray that people who read this get saved.

I was visiting family out of town and came across one of these. That wheel sensor tripped before I got to my car, so I drug the cart from the front the rest of the way to my car, heavily scuffing up the bottom of the locked wheel in the process, and left it there.

Lol. Seven years later and these carts are still terrible and not as high-tech as this video would have you believe. The Meijers in Northern Indiana have them and the lock feature goes off before you even exit the store. 😑 Then, an employee walks over as if you have stolen something. After they review your receipt with other shoppers staring at you, you get to awkwardly carry too many groceries to your car.
The wheels lock up to stop thieves in their tracks lol. How these lock is with sound and it plays a 7.8 ghz sound under the ground to lock the device. So you can literally download the shopping cart wav files online. One for locking the wheels and one for unlocking the wheels and play them right on your phone and put it up to the wheels to get around this lol.
Homeless guy simply removes the weels at night, replaced them with another set, and is on his way.

Ads can make a trolley appear beter than a fighter Jet.
There apparently used to be a stop & shop near where i work, because one of their carts remained near our store for a long time. It could never be used since it had something similar to this in one of the wheels, and the customer using it must've been too stubborn to stop using it, and/or put it back when the wheel locked.
He kept walking after the video ended 😂😂
There is nothing, NOTHING that communicates "junk shop" and "we don't really give a sh!t about our customers" better than every single blessed shopping cart in a Walmart store that doesn't roll.
as a shopping cart tech, there is one major flaw in this vid. The reason behind the locking wheel is to prevent theft of groceries, not the cart. You need a tilt bar in the back opposite side of the locking wheel. That way one can not just tilt the cart back on the rear two wheels and walk out...
I can still push a shopping cart with one wheel skidding along any day
so when there's not enough parking spots in the lot due to coronavirus panic and you parked outside just to have a cart with 100lbs of food in it stop working. good shit.
Thief: I’ll just throw it in the Back of my truck and figure it out at home.
They put way too much effort into making shopping carts sound cool here. Boom! BAM! Fizzle! SHOPPING CARTS!
I don't know why, but all of the shopping carts in the UK have four spinning caster wheels. Stupid. The thing is sliding all over the place. I was on holiday in Florida an was surprised the rear wheels are only forward facing. Makes a much more sensible idea.
This dude really just put unbagged lettuce straight in the cart
how can a man simply make a shopping cart sound cool
Those are some intense sound effects for a shopping cart 🤣
Woah, I am not going to see a cart the same way again
Does it use very strong magnets, because I feel like the shopping cart wheel makes it just slide around without rolling

It is a visual representation of what would happen, not the real thing. You can try it for yourself if you really want. Go to your local supermarket, and try to ride the cart out of the parking lot (see how far you get).

+Anthony Valadez It's so homeless people won't steal the cart. Sure you could drag it a couple kilometers, but it won't be practical for long term use and a couple miles a day of travel, fully loaded with their junk. No one else really steals shopping carts except the occasional dumb drunk kid, but they usually drop it relatively close to the store.
They make it sound like a car comercial
What a shame. It's always the black wheel that gets locked up.
I live in an apartment complex and there's a shopping center behind it. The complex has a rear entrance, and they just put up a metal pole so you can't bring a cart in through the gate. Great idea.
Just need a truck....steal 2 replace the wheel LOL
Never knew about this until I visited NJ…
I wish the stores around my area use the anti-theft device as it seems that our village is constantly removing them from the streets. People need to stop taking the carts off property; if you need a cart to walk home with groceries or goods just buy a bushier cart, they are not that expensive and is made from the same materials as the shopping carts.

EXTREME SHOPPING!!!!!!
You can just lift the shopping cart and carry it away XD
ill never go shopping the same any more
I've seen some older locking carts and the walking wheel if I remember correctly had a 9-volt battery and the walking mechanism just kind of looked like a fender over the wheel.
this narrator could sell you sand in a desert
I worked as a manager at a retail store, and the biggest issue came about due to the locking mechanism. A customer was running with his shopping cart while his daughter was in it. He was "just having fun" with his daughter. So he began doing that thing where you push the cart really hard forward away from you, run towards it, and push again. He did that over the yellow line. So as she crossed the yellow line, with him far behind her, the front wheel locked and the whole cart flipped forward, with his daughter inside. The yellow line was just repainted, so the guy knew it was there, plus, the shopping carts all have a sign warning of the locking mechanism. Now, I completely agree the guy is an idiot. Or he deliberately did it... I have seen on camera, parents pushing their kids into a shelf and try to blame the store and get $ out of it. Iv'e seen many things in retail. But, I still think that there should be an improvement to prevent something like this to happen. Even if it rare. Why can't they lock the back wheels as oppose to the front? The cart wouldn't have flipped forward in that instance. And, when those front wheels are locked, people would just lift the cart off its front wheels and push it like that. In a wheelie fashion
@CarlWong5
2 жыл бұрын
There is an option to lock the diagonal front wheel also. You can lift the cart off the front wheels but this prevents people from moving that cart a long distance.

So the moral of the story, dont ride in the basket or if it hits the wire, you will become Peter Pan for a second and Willey Coyote for the landing.
I didn't think those locking worked until i tied to push it past the stores boundary in the front . I couldn't even budge it an inch.
I never knew that shopping carts could be dramatic
The only crime here is him putting that head of lettuce in the cart bagless
Can you do this on traffic lights ? GTA...😆😅🤣
Had a cart lock up on me as I was going out the exit. Didnt steal anything, the cart just wouldnt move. Im a big dude so I picked up the cart and carried it with my groceries still in it to my car. After I put my groceries into my car, I threw the shopping cart over a fence. Havent gone back to that store since.
God i fucking love these types of vids
So you can just carry the shopping cart over the hidden trap wire and it won't lock?
great!
poor bubbles will no longer be able to feed his kitties. =(
I just clicked to comment. They can't even get shopping carts to go straight. The wheels are always wonky, so I don't understand how this is going to work
Came to the comments to look for bubbles references 😂😂
HE DID NOT JUST PUT THE VEGETABLES WITHOUT A BAG
So, basically there is 75$ worth of state-of-the-art electronic wheel lock mechanism just to prevent theft of 25$ worth of cart? Makes sense...
Who puts their fruits and vegetables on the cart without them being inside a bag?
What stops people from just lifting up the one wheel or pushing the kart
Congrats!! U just made walmart carts seem interesting
Pick part of it up over the locked wheel and replace the wheel when you get home? I used carts with one useless wheel that didn't turn before, only slowed me down slightly. And by shop perimeter, do they mean the edge of the paring lot? The cart would already be in the truck by then.
Plot Twist - You can lift up the two front wheels
We gonna ignore the fact that he sat the lettuce down without a bag?
When they talked about engineering the shopping cart *FUCK YEAH*
I had to once hack the anti theft device and adjust the parking lot perimeters. No time or energy for toxic people that like to shop at certain retailers
So wait, you're telling me all the shopping carts have the same wheel locked up because it's a goddamn security feature that malfunctioned? Monsters.
All you got to do is lift up the cart about 3 ft off the ground and that is enough to not activate the sensor on the ground
you can literally just lift the front wheels over those wires to get it past, or a lot of stores only put the wire under concrete so take it over a bit of grass
