Sucked me in too - until second viewing. It was the trees that tipped me off. GOOD SIM!

Ground based anti-air weapons controlled by Radar and Software can provide optimum firing solution in milliseconds. It will track and actually 'lead' aircraft, aiming at a point far ahead, where the aircraft will be before it even gets there. Pilots in jet aircraft have to aim their weapons manually and it takes much longer. They are dodging anti-air defenses, and trying to destroy ground to air weapons. Pilots can use a guided missiles that tracks back to ground radar and it can be 'fire and forget'.

One thing the game miss is that the anti air weapon can't constantly shot that much times without reloading and cooling down, well we know it's a game but in reality it can't keep shooting that much

@@phareztrinimand this weapon is a Gatling, using at least 6 barrels. This gives it higher tolerance to overheating. But yes, it will overheat after some time.

You had me for a moment. It was obvious when the first plane got hit. The smoke gave it away.

Nice Simulation

You'd think they would be most vulnerable when they turn in the same spatial plane as they are briefly at the relative same point in the air. In theory a burst of fire at that hang point would catch them at a vulnerable point but I guess the distance involved and the quick time they decide to turn makes it impossible for the projectiles to take advantage of that moment. The software is trying to calculate the lead across consistent data points in their horizontal runs but it's interesting seeing the massive amount of lead they are dialing in to try and hit them.

The weapon is called a "Phalanx CIWS". Designed and manufactured by General Dynamics Corp (now Raytheon). It is used on naval ships mostly to defend against air attacks and uses depleted uranium rounds fired at 3,536 feet per second. I remember loading one of these bad boys in 2006. Probably got some sort of cancer from it but as a veteran I haven't seen a doctor in over 10 years so, :}

Every time I watch one of these, the aircraft get shot out of the sky like sitting ducks. I suspect that an A-10 can be a far more devastating than is being portrayed in these "simulations".

Kinda like the guy who shoots his gun in the air in celebration. It has to land somewhere. There are systems that use anti-air rounds that either explode in proximity to the target or if they don't will explode anyhow...to minimize the damage when it lands.

The shells land where-ever after their energy is spent. Aircraft are moving, whereas static targets are not, which makes them easier to hit. Bullets are wasted either way. If you are hit on the ground there is still room for escape if not badly injured. If aircraft is hit, unless pilot's area is armoured, you still have to survive the crash unless you can eject. If you eject over enemy territory you may not even survive the decent let alone what will happen to you when/if captured.

$13m worth of ammo to take out the first; $75 the second

Even the flight characteristics are totally are totally realistic looking.

Yup, USMC veteran and bullets don't travel as fast as you think. I've fired bursts at people and then looked up from my M145 and saw the bullet impacts. Bullets are slower than you think. 3,536 feet per second last I checked. That means in 1 second, a bullet won't travel even a mile. You can see farther than that.

This is the most far fetched simulation. No military would those tactics to take an anti aircraft unit. One aircraft would approach from the front and the other from the rear and pinch the anti aircraft gun.
