ANTHROPOLOGY MAJOR Q&A! | UCLA Anthropology Student Answers YOUR Questions! Doubts, Career, etc.!

This video is about me answering all of your Anthropology related questions! In this Q&A, I talk about why I declared a major in anthropology, if I have ever doubted my major, career options I am exploring (ie jobs for Anthropology students, the difficulty of an Anthropology degree, and so much more! I personally am such a big fan of my major and I know other people are too. Through this channel, and especially this video, I wanted to take an opportunity to connect with you all on a more personal level and help you to understand my personal journey to finding the right degree. Best of luck to you!!
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am currently an undergraduate Anthropology student at UCLA on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

@@skylerpennock6439 Do you mean what to look for in a college? Every college is so different but I would def recommend looking at their major requirements and course catalogs! It's really helpful in understanding exactly what you are gonna get. I did some videos on this for UCLA! Thank you for sharing your stories. I am majoring in anthropology. I understood when you said that anthropology had a dark history. That’s true. But In my country (Vietnam) they don’t know about anthropology. When I went to the therapist she didn’t know anything about that field, I explained for her and she just keep saying If I was continuing to pursuit that major I would end up with a difficulty career path. You know, actually I am not sure about my career and even at the moment I am still considered about my major in Anthropology. But I pretty sure that I don’t want to quite it at the moment. Currently my topic thesis is about migration/waste traders and I am planning go for my master in Social Anthropology at the University of Olso in Norway next year if I can pass the entrance 😅😅😅. I’ve checked servals Universities and I like the course content in that In Norway the most. Just wanna share with you 😊 i’m feeling so happy when seeing you passionate for it thro your videos. I hope you’re doing great in your future!😇

Hello! This comment is so sweet, I absolutely love hearing about everyone's journey with anthropology. Because it is such an unpopular major (but an extremely important one in my opinion), it pushes me to want to talk about it and connect students around the world who may be having some of the same struggles. I wish you the best of luck in your academic endeavors (be it anthropology or another major) and never hesitate to reach out!

Hi! I'll be attending UNCC this fall as an Anthropology major. I'm supposed to choose either Biological Anthropology or Archaeology as one of my courses and so I'm doing a bit of research on them both. Both of them sound interesting but for Biological Anthropology, I'm afraid that I won't be good at it compared to other students since I haven't studied science for a long while and I don't consider it as my strength. Do I have to be good at biology ( or science in general ) before taking it? Also, do you think that taking Archaeology would limit my career options in comparison to Biological Anthro? ( I too haven't decided on what career I should pursue but I want to find one that will allow me to learn new things each day, be creative, help people and possibly travel too. And obviously, to be happy while earning a decent income :)

Hello fellow anthro major! Thank you for taking the time to write this comment, it means so much! When I took my first biological anthropology class, it was my first time taking biology in 4 years! I took a lot of chemistry in high school so my bio background was pretty lacking (and I remembered being bad at it lol). While it was definitely a challenge, I would not say it was impossible by any means. One of the best things about college is professors can't make assumptions about your previous knowledge in first year courses because everyone is coming from a different background. Anything you need to know should be taught in the college course. Moving onto career options, I have a good family friend who works in archaeology and she says career options are definitely wider for biological anthro students. However, if arch is what you love, then go for it!! My best advise (while maybe a little cheesy) is trust your gut and go with the class that sounds most interesting to you without fear of not doing well. Love your career ideas and sending luck to you!

Hello! It honestly depends on the classes and the professor. I have an emphasis in biological anthropology so I do not have to write many essays. However, linguistic anthropology students (for example) often have to write more essays. As far as the major overall, I would say there is a good balance of essays and tests (and not too many of either :) I hope this helps!

Is there any opportunity for anthropology students to do a job in HR department of giant companies like Amazon,Google,Microsoft?

  • @AliviaBrown

    3 жыл бұрын

Hello! I think there is ABSOLUTELY an opportunity for anthropology students at big companies. With everyday passing, anthropology is getting more attention because it is a field that really helps you to understand human choices and psychology. For example, businesses want to know what people are likely to buy and why. Who better to hire than an anthropologist who studies consumer habits? This is just one example but based on what I know, anthropology is on an upward trend moving into the future. I hope this helps :)
