Anthony Howell - Clinch Mountain Backstep (Bluegrass Banjo)

I’ve been having lots of requests to do this old Ralph Stanley number. I don’t play it anything like Ralph did but I hope you all still enjoy it!

Outstanding! Thanks for doing one of the songs I suggested. I have a question for you. How do you go about coming up with an arrangement of a song like this? Do you scour the Internet to get ideas from other people and put them all together?

I do not normally look for different idea online. I actually do the exact opposite and try not to look up other ideas so that my arrangements will be original and unique. I just use my knowledge of licks and ideas. A lot of times I use a lot of my own licks and inventions to make sure that I am being different and unique.

That's cool. How long might it take to work on a tune from start to finish to where you are ready to record it? @@anthonyhowellmusic

@@BrianBanjoMan It varies. This one didn’t take me very long at all to arrange because a lot of it was improvised. Sometimes it takes me an hour to do something for a video. My arrangements the songs I played at Winfield took me months to perfect.
