Anthem processors have always done a fantastic job at spatial imaging. They can locate effects in precise positions with special effects panning across or around the room sounding totally natural. With the better DACs and improved power supplies, the AVM90 got even better. In our listening test, it could float effects with pinpoint accuracy all over the home theater sound field.

    This video was great. I have loved anthem products for a long time and have had many of the prior generations. It was nice to learn about the new features and it’s great to hear you have a setup guide for you customers. Thanks for doing such a great job on the review. This will definitely help me with my upcoming purchase on the new generation Anthem.

I'm a long time Anthem user, AVM20, AVM 60 but I've always had a thing for McIntosh however I can't find any comparisons online and from everything I can determine the AVM90 seems to have everything, if not significantly more to offer than even the flagship MX180.

    How much better they sound would depend a lot on the power amps you paired up with the 70 or 90. The 70 has the same DAC's as the 740 with a slightly better power supply. The 90 has much better DAC's than either model. Glad you are enjoying your 740, the better way to improve it would be to add a power amp. Please reach out to our team for the best advice. Great video, thanks for posting this. I have a question about the 90's capabilities. I would like to know what internal resolution the unit operates at when the digital signal undergoes bass management, ARC, etc. The unit has 32/768 DACs but there is no reference to the internal processing or ADCs. I've seen it posted on-line that for analog conversion there is a 192kHz menu option which to me suggests a 24/192 ADC or possibly 32/192. Do you know if this is true, that all analog signals are sampled at 24/192? And concerning internal processing what happens to incoming digital signals of various resolutions, getting back to my initial question, if the unit sees a 24/192 signal on the input, can ARC operate at that native resolution or does it have to down sample to say 24/48. So similar to 24/96 content, is it down sampled or processed natively and say standard CD resolution of 16/44.1, would that remain native or up sampled to a higher resolution. I would assume feeding the unit something like a 24/352.8 digital music file from HDTracks would be down sampled but to what resolution?

    The AVM 70/90 has an Analog Bypass setting for analog inputs. The Analog Bypass setting will disable ARC Genesis Room Correction and bass management. The AVM 70/90 will accept up to 24/192 signals and will not down sample the native content up to that point while ARC Genesis is operating. Feeding the unit content like 24/352.8 will be downsampled to a maximum of 24/192 for playback.

  • @rodsmith5812

    @rodsmith5812

    @@AudioAdvice Thanks for looking into my question and reaching out to Anthem. This is quite exceptional that the unit can run ARC at up to 24/192 thus I believe may be the 1st in the industry for a DSP based SSP. Only the Trinnov Altitude32 up to this point could run room EQ (Trinnov Optimizer) up to 24/192 and that is due to it being essentially a PC running an Intel processor, an i5 I believe. Not even the Alitiude16 can perform EQ at 24/192, it is limited to 24/96 (using an Intel i3 I believe). Other 24/96 limited units using DSP I believe are the Datasat LS10 (using Dirac) and possibly the Theta Casablanca V. Heck not even the Storm Audio ISP MK series can run their Dirac EQ at 24/96, those units are limited to 24/48.

    I think a big omission of the features on AVM90 is the lack of Tidal Connect. If you are serious about music, having Tidal Connect and/or Qobuz Connect would help greatly, as Spotify Lossless is nowhere to be found. Of course, one can argue that for those that can afford AVM90 would may also have Roon on hand, thus becoming a moot point. But if the additional AKM factory fires did provide some time to fine tune the AVM90, you would think they would have added Tidal Connect as a feature set.

Will run the ceiling speakers off the 1140 for now, but eventually want to get an amp for those and a dedicated preprocessor. I use four subs but my minidsp works great. Lastly, I get the person on video is excited (or at least speaking with excitement), but he doesn't have to speak in a excited/raised voice for the whole video. Just a suggestion. No hate.

Thanks in advance!!

  • @AudioAdvice

    @AudioAdvice

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you enjoyed it. If you are having that issue, it only happens if you are using power amps that have really different input sensitivities or your speakers are vastly different in sensitivity. If this is the case, you need to get a an editor that allows you to edit the file, The editor is a json viewer: jsonformatter.org/json-viewer - Using this viewer, you can choose to upload a file. Choose your ARC file and it will load into legible text. From there CTRL+F to search for "level". You'll see a measured level and the level ARC is choosing to balance to. Subtract the balanced level (generally 75dB) and you'll get the full dB gain it wanted. Then you can manually adjust all of the gains to get the correct differences. For instance, it may show the speakers it set at a max of +12 dB at 14 dB, you would then adjust all the other speakers down by 2 dB and upload the modified file. For the X you do one that focuses on your MLP for the main row, then do another from what would be the MLP for the second row. Hope this helps and thanks for watching

    When it as first announced it was not 2.1 and that was going to be a future update. Anthem decided to release it with 2.1, and you can confirm this on their site here products.anthemav.com/avm90/. Dennis, we are not an Audio Control dealer. It does have Dirac, which is a great room correction system. The new version of Dirac, Dirac Live Bass gets Dirac closer to what the AVM90 can do in blending the subs to the mains. But we did not see the X9 listed on the Dirac site as one of the units that can accept it. Both units do use the very best ESS DAC's so with no room correction engaged they likely sound pretty similar. The AVM90 supports 4 subs independently while the X9 appears to just be 2. There are not many AVM90's out in peoples homes yet as we have just started to get them in. Thanks for watching and we hope this helps

    Are they truly fully balanced outputs ... 😉

  • @AudioAdvice

    @AudioAdvice

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question, this is from the Anthem FAQ page which is a great explanation of the concept: Are the XLR connections on the amps and preamps truly balanced? Yes. All three pins of the XLR connection are part of the circuit, which means it's a real balanced connection. (If pin 3 is sent to ground or left open, as is sometimes the case, then an XLR jack is an adapter, not a balanced input.) The purpose of balanced connection is cancelling out certain types of interference and ground loops. What about the whole circuit from front to back - is it fully balanced? No. At some point the signal must become single-ended, or interference can't be cancelled. This is better done sooner rather than later in the signal chain. The purpose of a balanced stage within a circuit is cancelling out nonlinearities arising in the circuit itself, and/or to double the signal level while cancelling out some noise. This is purely a means, not an end. We use a balanced arrangement in specific areas within a circuit where it makes a meaningful difference. Doing this to an entire piece of equipment for the sake of using the catch phrase "fully balanced" may achieve nothing but a significant increase in cost, or worse if the two halves of the circuit aren't matched well. We hope this helps and thanks for watching
