Anthem AVM 90 Home Theater Preamplifier Unboxing & First Look

Ғылым және технология

I've made the upgrade in my home theater system from Anthem AVM 70 to AVM 90. I've been wanting this for a while and now in conjunction with getting to four subwoofers. I'm unboxing and giving an overview of the 90 and talking about why I chose it. I bought mine from Audio Advice, and you can too right here. bit.ly/3sRb1L2

    I’m glad you had great experience. I tried it to replace my NAD M17V2i because I wanted some thing with 8K and the web interface, but it seemed to lose detail and high and clarity that I get with a NAD I am still on the hunt. Eventually I will probably end up with Trinnov or Storm. But I’m glad that you love it. PS I wish NAD would come out with new boards to include 8K and add more sub output control

    Congratulations. Anthem does great w their processors. I love my 70. I do however wish (especially at the price point of the 90) that they would offer PEQ level of equalization cause as good as ARC is as an auto correct equalizer (I rank it as the #1 in its auto results), it isn’t infallible and having more granularity in adjustment would be a huge feature. When you do finally get into doing your REW measurements you’d understand what I’m saying more.

    I ended up in my ARC run doing one PEQ tweak on each subwoofer using their own built-in capabilities. Just to trim a massive peak on each one. I should probably revisit again though and do more.

    The main next upgrade is a flagship projector (NZ9 or equivalent), at least. That will be a main focus coming up. But I also want to execute the amp swap, and we'll see what else.

    Always hard to tell as one would feel the need to feel vindicated by the extra expense above and beyond the 70. I often wonder about things like that with my own purchases. Would I feel the need to believe I hear substantial difference based off the expenditure?

    @@travisboorman6580This is a great point! It would be interesting to run blind 2 channel and multi channel tests...with the 90 and 70. Of course the same amps and speakers would need to be used. Hell, I'd find it interesting to add a MRX receiver into the test (preamp stage of course).

    Congrats on the upgrade! I am eager to see your thoughts on the performance vs the AVM 70. I have an older Denon AVR that I am planning to upgrade from, so I was debating between the 90 and 70. I have 4 subs in my theater, but I was wondering if the cost difference between the two models was worth it, or should I just use a mini dsp instead and purchase the 70. Your review will probably help me finally make up my mind.

    My take when I was originally cross-shopping Anthem and Arcam was that Arcam was have more instability. I think that's been largely improved. I am happy with Anthem line-up, but maybe I can get a top end Arcam to demo at some point. There are a number of competitive processors at these price points, but for my money, I prefer Anthem.

  • @Techthusiasm

    @Techthusiasm

    9 ай бұрын

    Not dumb at all. :) I wanted two things (well maybe three) out of this upgrade. First, the ability to have the Anthem EQ for independent subwoofers. The 90 can do 4, but the 70 can only do 2. Second, I just wanted their pinnacle processor for the build and internal improvements. I've read so much about folks loving the 90, and I wanted to be at the mountain of Anthem. Third, this does get the me the HDMI 2.1 board "for free". That would have cost me $500 to upgrade my 70 and now I don't have to.

    Hi Jaremy. Another great video! This is off topic but I would like your opinion on this. I am in the market for a new projector. I am currently using on older jvc model (jvc 550) mated with a 135” elunevision ATS screen. It’s time to trade up and am looking at the np5 or possibly the nz7. I’ve been told the np5 comes very close if not equaling the nz7. I don’t really want to spend the extra 5000 plus I only put roughly 3 to 4 hours a week on my current projector. Also, in the meantime I have 1100 hours on my current bulb and am thinking about replacing it until I am ready to purchase. What do u think. I value your opinion.

    I would 100% make this upgrade. The current generation AVM/MRX models have a ton of extra features and performance to be had over the prior one. Even stuff like ARC applying delay and phase integration is huge in the newer models. With 7.2.4 and if cost matters, then happily get a 70, and you'll have an awesome experience.
