Natural World: Ant Attack
In a quiet patch of forest, life is about to be turned upside down for its animal residents - the ants are coming. Spiders, scorpions and even forest crabs don't stand a chance. As food runs out, the ants, driven on by the ever-hungry grubs in the nest, have no choice but to attack the not so easily defeated termites. Armed with chemical weapons and fearsome jaws that could crush an ant to pulp, they're the ants' toughest adversaries. From the raw terror of battle to the inner-workings of an ant colony, this is television as you've never seen it before.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

Ants are known as Eusocial insects. Eusocial is the name given to the highest form of society among all living beings. Humans are very vaugely treading the line of being a eusocial species. Of course we are the most advanced species to ever walk this earth but if we were ever as eusocial as ants are, we would literally be colonizing other planets effortlessly.

Do ants ever sleep??! (I HAD to look that up) “YES, THEY DO - but not in the sense we understand sleep. Research conducted by James and Cottell into sleep patterns of insects (1983) showed that ants have a cyclical pattern of resting periods which each nest as a group observes, lasting around eight minutes in any 12-hour period.” - The Guardian UK

@@urcutejeans- No, like you can catch or buy a queen ant and keep a colony. There are tens of thousands of species, each unique and different, and the queens and thus the colonies can live up to 25+ years. If you catch or by them locally, you can release the colony outside if you decide you don't want to keep them anymore for whatever reason. Only a few species are labeled pests, and in America 99.9% of those species are actually invasive from other places globally. So by keeping a native species, you're helping to propagate the good guys

That society looks completely chaotic due to the sheer volume of the ants alone. You really have a gift at narrating and explaining the ants and their colonies. Truly fascinating creatures that most just either wrongfully ignore or stomp on.. I have come to a point where all insects found in my house are let outside.. I never squash them and applaud their survival efforts especially when it gets cold. I even created a stink bug habitat which grew from a population of 1 to 4 over time, and cared for them until Spring once it was warm enough to release them.
