Natural World: Ant Attack
In a quiet patch of forest, life is about to be turned upside down for its animal residents - the ants are coming. Spiders, scorpions and even forest crabs don't stand a chance. As food runs out, the ants, driven on by the ever-hungry grubs in the nest, have no choice but to attack the not so easily defeated termites. Armed with chemical weapons and fearsome jaws that could crush an ant to pulp, they're the ants' toughest adversaries. From the raw terror of battle to the inner-workings of an ant colony, this is television as you've never seen it before.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

The intelligence and resourcefulness of ants never ceases to amaze me.
It honestly makes me uncomfortable that ants are capable of defeating the slug's defences. 99% of the world's predators wouldn't ever come up with a solution. But ants with brains the size of a grain of sand can. There's something unsettling but very fascinating about that.

@megalomaniacalHalide
Жыл бұрын
Evolution is like that. A mutation shoves a new idea or a new response to stimuli into them, and if it's advantageous, their strain spreads. Ants always seem to have a 'solution' for things in their environment because they have been in the same environments for tens of thousands of generations, with as many opportunities to randomly find those solutions embedded in their instincts each time they reproduce. Take them out of their native environment, and their 'problem solving' vanishes utterly.

The brain of an ant is equivalent to their body size, that means they have a big brain for his body so they are smart. This comparison can be done for example, in Whales. They have a huge brain but they aren't as smart as humans, because they have a bigger body, so they need more Brain Mass to keep their functions working. Humans are smart because our bodies have big brains compared to the size of our body
@darrenstettner5381
Жыл бұрын
@@hanatarash666 that’s a pretty interesting. Hypothesis. Seems to check out for the most part. Obviously intelligence can’t purely be quantified by brain to body ratio. Apparently dolphins have the largest brain to body ratio but I don’t think they are as intelligent as humans. Might have something to do with our peripherals. Thumbs are pretty awesome compared to flippers. Ants do apparently have a large brain to body mass but they are still, individually, pretty stupid. Still, the brain to body mass does seem to have a pretty strong correlation in most cases. Thanks for explaining.
