Ant-Man Quantumania Being Devoid of Logic

Фильм және анимация

A video essay diving into all of the stupid writing flaws and really everything that's devoid of logic about Ant-Man Quantumania. This is easily the dumbest MCU movie so far and this video essay lays everything out for you to witness.

    This is the worst MCU movie for me. The constant “I cant tell you” trope from janet when all she’s doing half the movie is traveling giving her ample time to tell them about kang, kang saying “ive killed 100 avengers” yet stalling when given multiple chances to kill scott, the childish dialogue from cassy and modok, and hank and hope being pretty useless in a movie called ant man AND THE WASP. The easiest change to Modok would have been to have him conspire against Kang from the start, giving the Ant-team clues and conveniently sparing them to fulfill his agenda. Let's say that Kang had installed some failsafe that prevented Modok from ever going rogue. So Modok needed someone else to do it for him. I mean, it was easy peasy for Pymm to make a flying suit for Hope, why not slap some wings on Scott's suit as well? Being able to fly is incredibly useful and at this stage in the Marvel universe everyone can do it, even Captain America. It's even worse when you consider how this fits into the context of the MCU. Janet, Hank, and Hope were all snapped by Thanos. Scott and Hope helped save the universe from Thanos. Janet should know about the Avengers and that they can handle a big threat like this. Why wouldn't she warn anyone about Kang? After her and her family experienced the whole Thanos ordeal? Also remember that she was completely okay with sending Scott into the quantum realm before she got snapped. That's how Scott saved the day in Endgame. What changed? The answer is the writers changed, but what changed in-universe?

Somehow, Hank and Janet shrink without suits, Cassie and Hope aren't wearing their helmets, and none of them die or are even injured by the process. They are quantum, so they are sub-atomic, smaller than atoms, that means smaller than oxygen. How do they breathe? Three of them have suits, and while they normally use the quantum tunnel to go that small and return, Scott has proven once before that you can return to normal size without the quantum tunnel and none of them think to try this to escape Kang. Scott acting like Cassie is huge, even though she's actually still sub-atomic, just not as small as he is at that moment. Scott shows that he can still change size, and while being bigger than most of the microscopic threats he encounters would be really useful and would avoid a lot of the situations he ends up in, he still chooses to remain the same arbitrary size. You could be bigger than that and still be sub-atomic. What a waste of M.O.D.O.K. The ending was set up to give Scott and Hope a beautiful heroic farewell, but ends up being a meaningless gesture when Cassie brings them back. For some reason, the ants didn't shrink as much as the humans. The quantum possibilities of multiple Scotts was funny, but not really how that would work. There should not have been a Baskin Robbins Scott, since the alternate Scotts should be based on him at the moment he entered that area, so all possibilities should be branching from that one moment. Also, betraying your boss while he's barely holding off an entire army of ants is totally a dick move. Kang really should have won. They could have used Quantumania as a sort of Empire Strikes Back moment. Let the bad guy get a victory. It will make him so much more of a threat in the upcoming Avengers.

    For those completely confused about this movie, remember that Kang was originally an F4 villain (he first debuted in a F4 comic before becoming an avengers level threat). So fox media originally had the rights to the character along with doc doom. Once Disney acquired fox media, then they got access to the x men and F4 and all of their villains, hence adding Kang to the story. However, adding Kang to the MCU this late in the game caused major plot holes. It explains all the plot holes especially the Janet storyline as she didn’t tell them about Kang when she returned from the QR because Disney didn’t have the rights to the character yet lmao when she sent Scott to the QR in antman 2 and the whole storyline of endgame, again kang didn’t exist yet. I agree that they should’ve went about it a different way and they executed the Janet storyline poorly but it isn’t entirely their fault. Everything else in the movie like the horrible comedy or the destruction of the character known as MODOK etc I can’t defend, that was just terrible

    bro did we ever met irl and I told you my thoughts after getting out of the cinema? No shit I am completely serious but like 90% of your points are EXACTLY what I told my parents when I finally got home after having to sit through this shit for hours. Same as in many, many other newer Marvel Movies and even later GoT seasons, Characters actions have zero impact on anything, I cant remember when I really had the feeling of rooting for a film, sitting on the edge of my chair and shaking cuz the fights and all were so exciting. Probably was like endgame or so idk. The moment where Scott and Hope were about to get trapped in the Quantum Realm was one of the most intense moments for me while watching a movie for a long time. It actually gave me hope that this film and maybe even Marvel as a whole could maybe be saved. I mean, how cool, how jaw-opening and shocking-amazing, Game of Thrones-level-like would it be if they would just have let the two main characters die. That they got rescued was a shock moment for me, almost on the same level as the red wedding but this time to the complete other extreme. I was shocked because I could never have expected that they would to something so boring in a movie. This moved something in me and at this point when I was sitting in the cinema I realized that Marvel died for me. I did not and will not go in any other movies again. The writers just have no other ideas and they will do everything to keep the old, once-awesome characters alive, just to pump out more money from them. Another thing you said that was exactly the same as I said to my sister is how they use the Quantum Realm as an excuse to dump-load all the bad ideas they had in the movie, so they didnt have to think of anything that makes sense or is appealing to the viewer. Nothing there makes and (logical) sense, its just embarrassing. The last point that is really important to me, that you also mentioned, is that this movie is basically a bullshit rip-off of Star Wars. MODOK and Kang are a Vader and Sidious, Hank is Yoda with an army of clon... a shit sorry Ants. I mean Ants... Yes Ants. We have the droid army, we have the Rebellion, we have Scott, a potentially powerful Hero but has a lot to learn (sounds much like Luke tbh). Yeah and all this stuff. As I already mentioned, the writers of the Marvel Movies that came out over the last years just seem to have no new ideas and just keep old characters alive with boring and pathetic plot armor to get more money from them. Quantumania really killed Marvel for me, I cant remember when I was ever so disappointed

    You can just shrink smaller when you're already subatomic. Oh, and nevermind that the amount of gravity Scott and the gang should be imposing on their local environment should pancake everyone and everything nearby (they explained Pym particles decrease the distance between atoms instead of reducing mass or anything).

  • @joshua2870

    @joshua2870

    11 ай бұрын

    Yeah. They retconned a lot of the stuff that grounded it. 1. Reducing size but keeping mass. As you said the sheer mass of normal humans like Scott and Hope should be akin to the gravity of a star. 2. Isn't an hour in the quantum realm meant to be like a year there? Scott spent 5 hours and 5 years passed. That means Janet should have theoretically spent 30 hours or just over a day there. But she spent 30 years and aged. 3. What's the difference between shrinking to subatomic levels and just entering some portal? In Antman 1, Scott and Modok shrank to quantum levels, and Scott escaped by just expanding. Why didn't they just expand as well in this new movie? 4. Didn't Janet have powers or something like that in the second movie when she came out? She literally healed Ghost and Hank's mind.

MODOK had to be told "Don't be a bad person" to have a change of heart. I'm not riding Gunn's nuts or anything, but I'm honestly surprised at the writing expertise at Marvel Studios. Now, according to my math 5 minutes on earth = 0.034 seconds in the quantum realm which means from Scott and Janet's POV, they should've been yanked out the second they went in but both the scenes (on earth and in QR) were moving in real time and Scott and Janet even had time for a heart to heart.

    Honestly, I'd disagree with Cassie. She's a total mess in this movie. Getting arrested (a few times) is kind of a big deal. Especially when she's using Pym Tech to commit her crimes. And she's carrying around a suit with her. Either of which could have been taken. Then can throw in her having magic intelligence. She has a few notes from Hank Pym to read through (how the heck did she even get those) and suddenly she's one of the smarter people in the MCU? What? Truly we have lost a great time when characters needed time to develop their intelligence. Tony Stark having gone to MIT sounds like a joke now compared to the teenagers smarter than him. More to do with Hank. But where did the guy that would have died before letting his technology be misused by the world go? The guy pissed at Scott for nearly losing his suit and using it to help Captain America? When did this guy become so utterly careless and stupid?

    During my first viewing, I gave up about 12 minutes into the film when Cassie says and I quote: "...I started reading Grandpa Hank's old journals, and I got really into the quantum realm..." The entire plot happens because of THIS. So the 12 year old who just lost her father and half the people she knows to a universal cataclysmic event has so much free time that she becomes an expert in the field of quantum physics (before graduating high school?) in her basement by reading old notes? THAT is where you lost me, pal. No 12 year old is delving themselves into quantum physics in their dad's weird old guy friend's house after their father and half the fucking planet dies. And no 17 year old girl is smarter, better, and more advanced in the field of quantum physics after 5 years of reading notes than Hank and Janet (and Scot kinda) who have been studying the field for over 50 fucking years. They made Cassie into a Mary Sue during this film and it was done with literally 0 thought to her backstory. It makes literally no sense how she has any of her intelligence or skills besides "duh i read sum stuff"

    Yes and the stupidity fans out in many directions so that even when you think you've covered it all - there's more. For example: The writer forgets and does not understand that CASSIE thinks Scott was SNAPPED away by Thanos like everyone else. She -DOES - NOT - THINK - HE'S LOST IN THE QUANTUM REALM. And if she did think this - then she would certainly BEGIN by turning the Quantum Tunnel back on (that's all the rat in ENDGAME did, just accidentally turn it on, 5 years later because NO ONE HAD ANY INTEREST in it in all that time.) What I despise about phase 4 and phase 5 Marvel is the sheer stupidity of writers who were never paying attention to the previous chapters of the story in the 1st place, but they write a new B$ Chapter and expect me to play along - as if I also don't remember the story. Specifically: Scott at the San Fran memorial for snap victims - fearing he would see Cassie's name...see's HIS OWN. Therefore she thought he was snapped, and therefore there was no reason for her to study Quantum physics in the 1st place, and if she had - she would have gotten the QUANTUM TUNNEL out of storage years ago. LOL. Brain dead writer should just be fired an never show his foolish face again.
