I am also a victim of cgm lol. For me, I always wore my hair curly, so when I 1st heard of cgm, & saw these amazing transformations, I thought wow, I suffer it could do for ME since my hair isn't heat or bleach damaged? (I dyed my hair once or twice a year max, but just a reddish brown. I no longer dye my hair though) Well what it did was RUIN my hair. I lost my curls & ended up with sort of wavy hair, my scalp became DISGUSTING. I always had (trigger warning alert!) these gross scabs & this whitish/yellowish stuff that was almost powdery yet waxy at the same time. The chunky scabs were the worst, My head itched CONSTANTLY, & I'd feel these crusty bumps & I would like lightly scratch them off but sometimes they'd break up & I'd have to find the bits in my hair to try to pull the nasty things off the strands.🤮 After maybe 4-6 months or so I realized it wasn't for me. It took me awhile to get my curls back. On the bright side, I had gotten super interested in ingredients & the science of hair, and I now "know" my curls better than I ever would have had I not discovered cgm & went on that journey. I know my hair will not tolerate coconut oil of any amount in a leave in product, & only very small amounts in well formulated rinse out products. My hair LOVES protein & I use it every wash day, sometimes quite a bit of it & I've never had protein overload. I do avoid waxes & mineral oil, but not cuz of some "rule"- it's just that my hair doesn't do well with those ingredients. My hair handles silicone just fine, loves it actually. I don't get buildup because I clarify regularly & use lathering shampoo even when not clarifying. I don't personally need harsh sulfates to keep my hair buildup free, either - not that there's anything wrong with those if they work for you, but I found out that the SLS/SLES shampoos were too harsh for my fine, high porosity curls that get exposed to hard water. Sodium olefin sulfonate 12-14 works beautifully in clarifying shampoos for me. The BIGGEST thing to be is that everyone's hair is different & there's no set of "rules" that would apply to everyone. There just isn't. Learn your hair, listen to your hair, & don't worry if what works in someone else doesn't work on you & vice versa. #embraceyourcurls !

I have just found your channel and looking forward to watching more. i have followed CGM for about 3-4 years and I too am struggling with it. My hair was great at first but now it is thinning (I have had bloods done at the Dr's and all is well thankfully) and my scalp is crusty and itchy. I am ready to give up. I love the tips I have learnt along the way but am ready to try more products again that aren't just CGM approved. Fingers crossed.🤞Your hair is lovely, well done on your curly hair journey.😀

Wow, so much info, I need to watch it another couple of times. It also left me with other questions. How do I know I have a dry scalp or that I need to clean my scalp more? Other than dandruff of course. Could general hair loss be attributed to a dry scalp or is the fact I need to clean my scalp more only associated with product build up? Omg I have more questions having listened to your Q&As .Probably because I am paying attention despite having straight hair 😅 ……….. Mumma xxx

I think a hair oil or serum is also great for newbies because it can help tame frizz and those with damaged hair have higher porosity hair as well as scrunch out the crunch from the gel/mousse. Basic argan oil has been my go to since starting my hair journey in 2018 and it is still one of my most useful hair oils to this day.

Yes I deffo agree❤ I didn’t mention that in the beginner pack as I was worried it was too many things to consider! Interestingly I didn’t start sealing my hair with oil for about a year in and I wish I started sooner! My Moroccan oil was in my drawer the whole time! I should have used it 😂

I love your videos, thank you 🙏🏻 I’m a couple of months in wearing my hair natural and I still haven’t decided on a serum/oil. My curls are much bigger looser in circumference and I have lots of really elongated curls/waves at the crown which I don’t think will get any curlier so sometimes oils or serums can ‘smooth’ or ‘soften’ or ‘weigh’ my hair down too much. The frizz seems to be what gives me volume at the back & top. I’m too scared to invest in oils and serums yet.

I love you hair and can’t believe you started curly life same as me. I started April 2020 during COVID. My hair has improved so much but I’m debating going to try silicones because sometimes I think my hair looks dull or dry and maybe my hair needs silicones ? I have been so scared to use them because the curly community makes it sound like my hair will fall out if I use them. But I don’t really follow cgm besides no silicones or sulfates. I diffuse and color my hair and I brush style. If I want to try silicones which styling category would you recommend ? Silicone in an oil ? Or the curl cream ? ….

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease of hair follicles. Similar to atopic skin, psoriasis, lupus etc. there's not much a person can do, since it's autoimmune.
