    They use their tails for balance like cats usually always land on their feet. This is also where their sweat glands are and how they cool off.

    "Do rats bite?" - I just have to add that sometimes they (gently?) bite your fingers when they think it's food/smell food on them... At least mine do and always kinda seize for a moment there after and then gently lick and groom that same finger as they'd like want to say "omg sorry, my bad oops..." and I always just find it so cute

    I understand that most people would think that mice and rats don't get along but I have owned both for a lot of years and I have some mice that are housed with rats and they get along amazingly! One of my female rats even raised some baby mice as if they were her own. I am very experienced and well educated on rats and mice. They have never faught and none of my mice have ever been harmed by the rats. In one enclosure I have 4 rats and 5 mice and they get along so well, they just absolutely adore each other. But that's just my experience. 😊💖

    There’s many other reasons I wouldn’t keep them together such as the cage size requirements / risk of rats living in taller cages mice could fall in and also the slightly different nutritional needs you’d have to accommodate for but I’d be interested to see how you do that!

  • @hollydavis4987

    @@Emiology thanks for your reply! As I said I've owned mice and rats for many years so my life basically revolves around them and I just have to work around them. My mice and rats have always just gotten along without me needing to interfere or do anything like that. It started when I was free roaming the rats in my room and one of my mice Bobby who was a baby at the time, he's nearly 4 now(that's really old for a mouse), was on my shoulder because he just always wants to be around me and so I decided to let him down onto the ground with the rats and Bobby was very interested in them but they didn't really even notice him, well they knew he was there but they didn't really care. From then on my rats and mice have been living in harmony together. I feed my rats and mice the same nutritious diet and they absolutely thrive off it, their costs are all really healthy, they are a good weight, they have plenty of energy especially some of the older ones that still like to climb and play and run around! I just love them all so much!😊💜💜

    one of the questions was do rats need wheels... do they? also, will they chew through a plastic cage because i’ve seen some places say the cages need to be metal, but some places say they can be plastic!!

  • @sinandcyanide7505

    @sinandcyanide7505

    4 жыл бұрын

    Plastic cage bases are usually fine, but it'll depend on your rats. Mine were fine for months then decided to chew through the base and explore my apartment. They missed their sister who had to be moved to a nursery after having babies unexpectedly. They're fine now that they're back together though! As for wheels, males will usually use them less if they use them at all, but females are likely to use one. If you give them a lot of free roam time, they don't have to have one but still might enjoy it. Just make sure it's the appropriate size.

    My rats and dog are good friends! 😊 I don't let them out with each other of course, but they love sniffing each other through the cage, they don't try and attack or anything but I still don't trust them out if the cage with the other one 😂

    you can train rats to detect certain deseases in humans with their sense of smell or find landsmines (the upside of this is that rats learn much faster than dogs and if the dog sits on the mine it can blow up while it wont will when a rat sits on it), so saying they have a good sense of smell is a hard understatement

    when you say the rats leave little drops of urine is it a lot? like if you have them and they are running up and down your arms and going across the back of your neck, will you be soaked? do you have to change your clothes after? what about when they have free roam time on a couch or bed? how much urine will they drop? will i have to change my sheets right after? thank you so much! love your channel so much! I've been researching stuff for about a year and will soon get a pair of dumbo ratties :)

    When she says little drops, she means ... Little drops. I've heard people that let their rats roam in their bed often have a specific rat blanket or sheet that they lay down. I let mine run on my faux leather couch, that way I can just wipe it down after. And I guess you don't HAVE to change after they pee on you, but like... You have rat pee on you you should probably change. Even if it's just a little

    I assume the reason some people might wonder whether rats have bones it’s because they’re able to fit through such small spaces and are generally really flexible.

    I got a rat not to long ago and she was by herself at the pet store, so I got her because Iv been wanting rats for a while. She gets all the attention and love that she needs. The pets store informed me that they’d be getting more babies in about the next 2 weeks but because of covid 19 they stopped having live animals in the pets stores. So iv had my rat alone for about 3 months now. It’s really upsetting because I want her to have a few more sisters but I literally can’t. And I live in a small town and there are no breeders close to me. She seems extremely happy though always wanting to be around me and my partner and loves playing and pea fishing she has lots of toys and activities to do. I just feel so guilty she can’t have some siblings to cuddle with her when I’m at work and in general 😓

  • @kooby122

    @kooby122

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, it's not. The mice that Emi owns are domesticated and bred to be pets. Keeping wild mice as pets will really stress out the mice and ruin their quality of life because they are used to living without cages and in large groups. They might also carry diseases. Your best bet is to do your research and get pet (fancy) mice.
