Several years ago, a friend of mine was raped. Her first time going out in public afterward, that was not legal issue related, I took her to Sephora to get her makeup done. I talked to the artists beforehand and explained the situation, and asked them to please consider the circumstances before assigning an artist. They bent over backwards and every which way to make it a good, healing experience for her, including the most motherly guy as an artist, who absolutely helped her begin to heal. Sephora has done a lot wrong, no dispute, but this won my heart for them. All that is to explain that I cannot fathom why it matters the gender of the artist. In the worst possible circumstances, gender doesn't matter at all, only empathy.

I worked as a nurse for over 30 yrs... I also worked in a rape crisis centre, we didn't have male doctors or nurses as the front staff, when male staff were on, it was explained to them that it would be a male doctor or nursing them at "xyz stage of today" which prepared them and helped... but we had to bend the rules for only 1 client, who had been raped by about 10 and left for dead and it was a miracle she lived...she didn't need another second of trauma 😢...no male staff until she was almost ready to leave (hospitalised for 8weeks!! Nearly died)

Dylan Mulvaney is a piss poor representation. All he cares about is acting a fool to get attention for themself which is all they care about and acting like a little girl to make fun of women. If you want transwoman real representation try Blair White who isn't acting about her "days of girlhood"!
The way Johnny’s soul temporarily left his body in full disbelief after learning that Kevin has not watched Jurassic Park 😂😂😂😂😂 Another great episode, besties! 💜
I'm half Native American so it's nice to hear that my ancestors contributed to a skincare trend that is still used today. I use my cerave healing ointment for slugging and it also helps with my eczema 😊

Setting powders and sprays primary function is to lock your makeup into place and some use it throughout the makeup application Finishing powder is a topper of sorts. It primary function is to make the skin look airbrushed or less oily. Powder Foundation can be used as a sort of finishing powder or way to smooth out your applications (soften contour or bronzer lines), great way to touch up makeup throughout the day.
@kerrysmith7598

@abookishmess powder foundation is foundation... in powder form, otherwise it would be called setting powder or finishing powder. misinformation and incorrect usage creates problems with the final look of your makeup. I know you were trying to help, but as a 56 year old who has been using powder foundation as it is intended, I found your information to be incorrect. Yes you said may be used as, but you failed to mention its intended purpose.

We wouldn't know how to Contour without Kevin Aucoin! Wayne Goss is a very underrated Makeup Artist who has been a favorite of mine for Years! I'm a mature woman who would love for either of you to do my makeup! And I also would take makeup tips/advice from a man in makeup before most women! Lots of love to you both!

I agree babes... As a society we are heading back to the old times. This is also happening to female mechanics who work in shops and the male customers don't want them working on their vehicles, because they are female. Look, if you can do and perform your job right, WHO CARES. Love you both. Sending you positive vibes and tons of love 💜

I found Kevin's comments about yellow retinol so interesting, because I used a yellow coloured retinol from the inkey list, and the pictures online showed a more white colour. Since my retinol was yellow instead of that whitish colour, I thought that the retinol had gone bad. You guys are so educational, and I am here for it!

As an esthetician and fellow skincare enthusiast, I LOVE this episode!! You have a lot of great information, however I would like to comment on a couple things you mentioned.. It’s totally okay to put your regular moisturizer on your eye area! There are many eye creams out there that are only to hydrate the area, so they’re only being marketed as eye creams to sell less product for more money. You definitely don’t need to spend the extra money on an eye cream if you’re just trying to hydrate the area, just use your moisturizer! I would only purchase an eye cream if it has specific ingredients to target concerns that I have for my eye area and not the rest of my face. Personally, I just use the CeraVe Healing Ointment as my eye cream because my eyelids get so dry! I’m sure you meant this when you said to clean your makeup brushes once a week, but I just wanted to emphasize that that means after every use! As a teenager, I didn’t know anything about the importance of keeping my makeup brushes clean so I would just reuse them for WAY too long before cleaning them and my skin paid the price. I just wanted to specify this for some of your younger audience who maybe needed more clarification! I have a million makeup brushes so I don’t have to wash them right away (because who wants to do that?) and I’m sure that’s why you guys do too! You can use retinol in your 20s! Retinol is one of the best products for combating acne and hyperpigmentation, so even teenagers and people in their 20s can use a retinol depending on their skin concerns. And honestly, prevention is much easier than treating, so it can be a good thing to start using retinol before you develop wrinkles/sun damage that you want to get rid of. And lastly, THANK YOU for emphasizing the importance of sunscreen!! Sunscreen is for sure the best and most necessary product for healthy skin, and it seems so many people are unaware that you need to apply and REAPPLY throughout the daytime. Thank you! You guys are so amazing and knowledgeable and I can’t wait for your next episode💜💜

@emmamontoya5684 I have a question that hopefully you can answer. I suffer from hay fever and this summer has been brutal. With the sneezing and watery eyes I have begun to develop bags under my eyes. Is there an ingredient in an eye cream or something I can use to help with the bags?
Definitely as a male BA at Sephora I was told many times they either didn’t want my help or that men know nothing about makeup or didn’t want me to do theirs.

I was nursing back in the day that men were doctors and women were nurses, but men were looking for a secure job and had entered the workforce. The females ended up doing the bedbaths and other more 'private parts' treatments for their female patients, which was hard on us females!! Even men thought they were 'gay' if they were nurses and wanted a woman!! So we complained, and had to have support from the senior staff to back us that the patient had to accept the nurse they were assigned...it is much better now, 40+yrs later 😊
I’m listening to the undertones part and I feel like Olive skin is so not talked about enough in makeup education and cosmetology! So many people tell me they always look gray or orange in foundation and when I show them that they’re olive they’re so mindblown.
A few things 1)I love your shirt, Kevin! 2) my kids are curious about seeing men in makeup and I always say makeup is for faces 3) I mostly watch male makeup channels out of all my makeup channels 💛
Would love to see you guys demo an example of a smokey eye or how best to deal with deep-set hooded eyes.
As a 55 year old who used to lay out slathered in baby oil and never wore sunscreen until hit 49….the damage I am trying to fix is insane. Not just trying to fade sun spots, I also have solar elastosis and solar comedones that no serum can fix but only the heavy duty (and expensive) laser resurfacing.

Johnny's rant 🎉🙌 regarding under eye slugging, if you are prone to milia, you actually may want to skip. It caused me to get one and I've seen several derms on here mention it can cause milia. It's different than breaking out in pimples.

Hey Johnny and Kevin, I would love a dedicated skin care podcast!! If you could include any tips for mature skin I would love that!! I love how you share mature skin tips Johnny!! Thanks you two,I love your podcast!!
The only reason I could see to say that I didn't want a certain person to do my makeup would be if their own makeup looked really bad, not just different from my preferences but really poorly applied, or if I had seen them do something unhygienic or inappropriate. I'd hope that no one would be employed by Sephora to apply makeup who fit those categories. That being said, I'm not assertive enough to actually object regardless.

I once watched a hairdresser sneeze all over her station and then swipe the back of her hand across her nose and mouth; all this just before she started working on the client who was ahead of me. When I asked the booker to reschedule me for a different hairdresser on a different day, I was accused of being a racist because this germ-spreader just happened to be a woman of color. I left the salon and never returned, and held up my phone and lied when I said I'd just received an emergency text, because I did not want to embarrass the hairdresser by pointing out her basic lack of hygiene.

The only time my store ever allowed clients to refuse service from a male presenting cast member was for religious reasons. My location had a large first generation Somalian immigrant population and being that close to a man not related to them is a taboo. This was particularly true if they would need to expose their hair at any point during the makeover. Otherwise it was usually a homophobia thing. We had several younger male artists that wore full beats everyday and were among our top artists When they would get the "no way" from a client we would asses the situation and either explain that this was their assigned artist no-one else available. If they softened their stance and the artist was comfortable they would proceed with the appointment and if they weren't comfortable we'd give em the boot. No way, no how, no mam! Not in my store!
It’s kind of embarrassing how many times I’ve watched this video. I just love it and I could listen to them talk about stuff forever
