I’ve been loving this color theory series. As a 56 year old light warm olive these videos have been light bulb moment after lightbulb moment. Now I understand how to be actually deliberate about filling color in and not just backing into it on accident. I have been doing this for years without knowing why it sometimes made things look better! 😮 You can COMPLETELY see the difference in the 2 sides.. WOW! Now I get it!!!

Kackie, thank you, you literally opened my eyes on why when I'm trying to do heavy makeup on my very pale complection it always looks like it just floats above the skin... Also it became a lot more clear why I'm so bad a color correcting and always end up making my blemishes appear grey whenewer I try use green to cancel it or just aplly heavy almost white consealer on top.

When you put on the RMS pinky bronzer, I had my “ah ha!” moment. That color is the mid tone that often naturally appears in youthful skin. As we age, a lot of us lose those beautiful mid toned pinks from our skin that signal to the eye “health and youth.” That’s probably one reason makeup starts to look clowny on both mature and very fair skin unless done carefully. This is the answer. Thank you!…and also, I must have that bronzer now. 😂

Yessss. Speaking as a pale neutral olive on whom sheer lilac color products turn a nauseating shade of orange, and skin tints go weird. I wish I could have the hours and money back that I've wasted, researching how sheer XYZ product is before I buy it and end up disappointed. I wish you, Kackie, with the correct terminology and credibility, would do a video suggesting to us - and brands - how online swatches could be soooo much better. If only to reduce returns and environmental waste, and boost buyer satisfaction. I wish they'd stop photographing thick layers of a sheer product as if we could guess how it would look if worn in a normal amount. Not to mention a ban on AI/photoshopping. And for brands to stop enthusing about sheerness as if it's objectively an advantage, instead of a characteristic that becomes useful or unusable, depending on the user's intent. I feel better now.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am 52 and took a basic art class 30 years ago in college. I found it so interesting but never figured out how to apply it to cosmetics. You have taught me so much! I finally understand why so many colors turn warm on my cooler complexion! 🤯

  • @Patti-1962
    @Patti-19622 күн бұрын

I discovered you several days ago, and realized instantly our skin tones are very similar. AND, from your red lip video, I finally understand why I have a full collection of red lipsticks that I have never been able to make work! I buy a new tube every December, hoping this will be the year that I finally get it right. Now I know why I add a layer of coral over the red before I leave the house!! As for liquid blushes, I've been scared of the super opaque (Rare Beauty) products, so I've gone with softer products....which look see through on my cheeks. I really did decide that I'm a powder blush person, and just stopped trying. The see-through blush look made my makeup look unfinished, like I missed a step, and now I know that I did!! I know quite a bit about color theory (my son and his wife are artists), but never thought about how the opacity of a product would read on my skin. Sorry for writing so much, but my mind is blown, and I feel like I can deal with the makeup issues I've been struggling with. If you wrote a book on this subject, or held classes, I would pay to learn more about this!!

Such great timing. Today i bought a Gucci blush in Intense Plum on sale. I am fair with pink undertones and it was, lets say a little high contrast (halloween) for me. When I got home it was strait to the makeup table and I mixed it with Valentino 08 (pinky peach) and the difference was outstanding. In the past I would have counted it as a waste of money and sold it, but because of you I experimented and it worked! So happy that it is actually a look that will work for me now and not just landfill. Going to go through my other makeup that has never looked quite right and do some more experimenting with the knowledge you are giving me. 72 yrs young and having more fun with makeup than when I was 25.

i love the idea of using the dropper on a picture to nail down your skin tone. Is there a way to say take that some steps further and use that swatch to help nail down 1. what your undertones are and 2. to generate swatches of colors that will be complementary for your skin tone? That could be super helpful for some, i know sometimes i just can't spot things with the naked eye in the mirror

This is so exciting to see because I accidentally discovered this phenomenon recently when I realized that I was better in neutral/warm colors than cool, and that all of my lipsticks, including corals and peaches, were looking like a vagina lips purple, mauve color, which I now hate. After buying a half dozen new lipsticks and failing to overcome the purple/mauve, I finally realized that my natural lip color, though dull, is strong and powers through. So, I started trying to find a neutral to put on first like complete opaque nude to act as a base. And now you've confirmed that I'm on the right track!

Wow, this *hit* me, in Kackie parlance. The right (supposedly hollow, no midtone) side is pretty too, but when compared to the left (the one with the midtones), it looks more makeup-y. The left feels more painterly, more human, like the makeup recedes in a good way and you look more like you? As you said, there's no "bad" side, but once I watched your process and saw the results, it's like night and day. Subtle difference for most, as you said, but everyone's all out here for the niche color theory/makeup content! This was so fun! 🤎

I LOVE the hovering look 😂. I LOVE freckles and skin showing through rather than creating a canvas and then recreatimg. It just suits me better, so let's keep all the options for different makeup preferences. I don't have TikTok, so i don't know what's going on over there, but i love all the sheer, dewey, lighter makeup options available lately. I waiteddecades for this 😁

I think that’s why I really like bronzer that is close to my actual skin color because it bridges the gap between my skin and the blush. But I never thought about in this way or why it’s works the way it does. I don’t use it to make my face warmer I use it to make everything look more natural but flattering, seamless. Thanks Kackie!

So glad you did this video. I have freckles that will look grayish on my cheeks & to the eye, it can make blush or bronzers look almost patchy. If I want to have a “no makeup makeup” day, I end up with far too much blush anyhow, to cover the freckles. Now, I can just correct for it! Awesome! Thanks so much! ❤

Kackie thank you so much for this series ❤ I have been on a colour theory journey myself when I became frustrated with my makeup looking overdone, which is when I realised I was wearing warm tones on neutral/ cool tone skin. The result was makeup that never looked at home or natural on my skin. I have rewatched all of your art math videos to really absorb the concepts and have realised that I am high contrast (fair with dark hair, brows, eyes and red lips). However I am struggling to figure out my saturation (I think I have a high saturation) but I would really love to see a video about diagnosing ones skin in relation to all those metrics. I also find that EVERYTHING turns orange on me, whether it be blush or lip liners/ lip products. Any help would be appreciated. It is not as easy to ‘see’ colour for those not so accustomed to it !

Oh interesting! I have been doing something like this for years without realizing what it’s called. I usually mix a little liquid blush with foundation and put that down as a first layer before concentrating the pure color in the center. For me, it takes the guess work out of finding the intermediate shade if I just literally mix with something that’s already my skin color.

LOVE this demo!! I've hit pan on Latte (FF) by using it as a bit of a fill color before going in with the rest of my color cosmetics. Maybe I'll try the Picmonkey hex code to order a shade that is as close to latte as possible. I also use this when doing my nails. I love shiny, shifty nail polishes, but it makes me banarnars when I can see through the color, I want my nails shiny & shifty but also opaque. I lay down a layer of a really opaque polish before I go in with the thinner polish. (it's also fewer layers, so it dries faster.

I love, that You speak to us about color theory - I like this topic, but I'm not a profesional, so I like, that You speak easy to us, so we understand. And now I know, why my face and my makeup look like 2 separate entites, although I used colors, that are flatering for me. So, less isn't moore. 😅

This put words to something I’ve been trying to figure out forever. Day to day I don’t wear a lot of makeup. When I have an event or I feel like putting in more effort I often end up feeling like something is wrong and I think this video nailed it. Less is more means I’m often using single colors of what I have. Can’t wait to try this for an upcoming wedding I have! Thank you for these in depth teaching videos!

I love this new series! Thank you for all your effort and the huge difference you made in my life. Makeup used to be so horribly confusing for me, every time I would spend agonizing hours painting myself, It would always look... Wrong. For a few years i gave up on makeup entirely. Then I discovered your videos. After watching your videos for awhile makeup stopped being such a chore. Eventually it became fun, again like it was before i was a self concious preteen. Now I can enjoy makeup and have confidence that it will look beautiful. You and HLP inspired my journey to discover my skintone and helped me find a sense of self confidence. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

This is fantastic! So often it's thought of that we needed to take a (for instance) opaque blush and blend it out to sheer the edges to make it look like it's part of your skin, but this gives everything a different dimension of making things looks like they truly belong. Love it! Would love to see how useful any of the existing mixing pigments are when applied to this concept.

Like obviously we can wear whatever we want but sometimes its nice to know what colors work with our natural coloring for effortless looks (even if you wear olive eyeshadow, for the right undertone that will still look effortless). I am loving this series of videos
