I have taken both my girls 5 and 9 down to Creation Falls in the Gorge. Easy walk down, maybe a mile, on a well established trail. Tons of water and sand to play in for the afternoon/evening - and there's a great camp site at the top of the hill next to the falls, with several spots for tents and hammocks. Both loved it, and want to go again.

I have EE, UGQ, Hammock Gear, and JRB quilts. I have to give it to UGQ. Nothing wrong with the other companies. I just prefer UGQ because they rate their temperature at a comfort range. That does come with a weight penalty because they add extra down. I think it’s worth it though; they’re also the most customizable. If you want a budget friendly quilt JRB is the way to go.

That was a good video about asking questions. You really had me laughing when you talked about how your wife tells you to get out the house and go hiking. My wife says the same thing to me about driving. When I'm off the interstate for 1 week I start going crazy. One month off the interstate and my wife says to be just filled the car up and try somewhere. I can't tell you how many times I've done that just filled up the car and drove 300 miles down the interstate and we fill up & turned around and came back. You would think I get a enough driving out of being a long distance truck 🚛 driver. Again good video John thank you for sharing.

As a "hiker wife" I second this... anything to make sleep more cozy, and nights more warm without adding too much weight... makes it better. Now I WILL say that it was actually ME that got my HUSBAND into backpacking though... LOL! I kept hearing about the Hennessy Hammock for camping and I was like, "maybe I'll get one?" so I did and then went down the gear rabbit hole and started slowly building up my supplies and learning about what worked best for people/what didn't/why... and I just found it all so fascinating! It kinda became my "hobby" during Covid to be able to get outside and not be around people.

Do you ever get hiker guilt? Might not be a real term. I sometimes feel guilty for wanting to go backpacking when I know know the misses and kids are at home.

UGQ is true comfort rated, EE is comfort "limit" rated...much different. My wife loves her UGQ quilt! We are looking at ordering a couple synthetic summer quilts (40 degree) and have decided after much research to go with Cedar Ridge Outdoors for those. If I buy a down quilt, I will probably get one from them as well. Good video :)
