Perfectly cast as Captain Pike, while also being reminiscent of the original Captain Kirk. Love the humor and charm.

He is truly a wonderful guy, a terrific actor and probably my favorite Star Trek captain - after Jean Luc!!

He is the right amount leader, friend, explorer and handsome. His relationship with number 1 and Spoke really developing nicely.

I think the point of the comment is that he makes a good Jeffrey Hunter substitute. & Hunter had a great screen presence. With his striking eyes, etc., he would definitely be described as handsome.

I knew from the 1st episode he grew up a Star Trek fan and from the South (represent!). This has to be so surreal for him. GREAT INTERVIEW! He's gotta have an intense workout routine- didn't he say he was 50? He's killin' it!

Love that both actor and character love horses - the connection between my mare and I was exactly as he described. Another reason to fanboy Anson Mount - go figure.

Cullen Bohannon - Awesome character!!! Not anyone could play the part better. So believable. Clint, Costner move over . . .

He's got great screen presence. I watched him as Black Bolt in the 1-season show Inhumans a few years back. His character didn't have any dialogue (nature of the character), and IMO show wasn't that great. But I do think he acted the heck out of it! Made me look forward to him as Captain Pike. Have been loving it.

He has brought so much to this character! This week’s episode, Charades, is played so well, the facial expressions! What a great actor. I have been a Star Trek fan since it first debuted. I really love what you’ve done with the role. I’m rethinking my choice of Captain Sisko as my favorite captain. 🖖🏻❤

At first I wasn't going to think I would like Anson Mount as Captain Pike. But now? Hard to not see him as Captain Pike.

With a name like “Anson”, it totally tracks that his mom would introduce him to “Star Trek”. Literally carries the name of one of the genre’s grandmasters, and it shows! My 8yo son and I have waited for each SNW episode to drop since “Children of the Comet” was in the queue on “haircut day” (where Mom cuts his hair while he watches TV). Mom is not a “Star Trek” fan, but even after the haircut and cleanup, she said “Ok, we’re invested in the story, we need to finish this one.” THANK YOU from a lifelong fan who grew up on TNG, and whose longest summer in memory started at my son’s age with the words “Mr. Worf… FIRE” for bringing back the ethos of TOS such that I can share the series with my 8yo. Though the violence in the TV-14 episodes is hard to stomach, we skip the scenes that gave them that rating and still watch the episode because they are so well done! We’ll be elated to make this a five-year mission because this series is so well-done, top-to-bottom!

You have rapidly become my favorite captain, and Picard is a high bar to have cleared. You might even be my favorite actor, and Mr. Fillion would also be a high bar to clear 😁 And by the way... channel 13 was VHF, UHF started at 14 (are we dating ourselves? 😜) Your story of learning you'd play Pike brought a tear to my eye.

No man has a right to be this handsome & likeable.

Lawd have mercy I would have argued with someone had they told me this was Anson Mount as I only knew him from Hell on Wheels and absolutely fell in love with his character. I’m a western kind of ole lady. And I agree horses are amazing. Hope you do some more western work. 😊🌻

Fun, but I saw the punchline coming a mile away.

He is so handsome but it is not because just he looks, he has also glorious vibe.

You know what my first thought was when they aired "Star Trek the Next Generation" in 1987? "Holy SHIT! STAR TREK IS BACK ON TV!!!!!!!!" You know what my second thought was? "Hey, it would be really cool if they did a prequel (which wasn't a thing back then, at least in mainstream pop culture) with Captain Pike, Number One, and Spock?" So I waited DECADES for this show. AND, I grew to HATE Discovery (I was an appologist, but what can I say? I love me some mushrooms, mushroom magic, tartigrades, and man-man kissing!) so I was ready for "Strange New Worlds" to ABSOLUTELY BLOW CHUNKS and as a result COMPLETELY BREAK MY HEART. Granted Pike and Spock were the BEST part of discovery, but season three of discovery was so stupid that I just gave up hope that PARAMOUNT INC., could produce something worthy of my attention. I AM SO GLAD THAT STRANGE NEW WORLDS BECAME THE BRILLIANT SHOW I WANTED IT TO BE. The writers are talented and capable of some DEPTH and the actors are all incredible. But the first time I saw Anson Mount I was like "WOW! That's the real deal! That's Captain Pike." Before Anson Mount I really kind wished they'd done this series in the 1990's and cast BRUCE CAMPBELL as Pike, but Anson Mount blew away ALL of my expectations. Pike is and always was my favorite Starship Captain.

Bruce Campbell would NOT have made a good Capt. Pike. He's a GREAT actor, & I've loved him in EVERY role I've seen him in. But, his look & personality are COMPLETELY different from Jeffrey Hunter's. Anson, on the other hand, reminds me a lot of Hunter. He's a good substitute.

But, the thing is... You almost need to have just the first two seasons of DISCOVERY in your viewing rotation since that part of the storyline fleshes out what came after Archer and directly leads into SNW... Hell, the whole second season of Discovery is almost the PIKE SHOW.. which is fine by me... and, it at least gives you couple seasons of Michelle Yeoh goodness. SNW is now my most favourite Trek after TOS. I'm just over the Moon that we finally got to see Pikes story and young Spock fleshed out. I never would have imagined this was going to be a thing! For me, I can only handle TOS, SNW, Enterprise, the first 7 movies starring the "original cast", the first 2 movies of the remimagined Kelvin timeline and those 2 seasons of Disco as noted.

Anson has made a life long trekkie TOTALLY need more PIKE. I never thought that I would find the Pike character appealing all these years. Then came ANSON MOUNT! WELL CHR*@$st, This is a completely genuine character if I've seen any. This version of STAR TREK is #200%TREK if I may say so. Keep it comin'...Love IT.

Find an hour or two long at home interview with Joe Flanigan of SG Atlantis. Best sci fi character interview I've ever see. Anson was supergood in Hell on Wheels. Worth watching the series just for him.

A terrific peek into this man's life! He is just perfection as Pike. But, this is really weird to only listen to because the questions are only text on the screen... please, video-making folks, consider those who can't see the video but want to consume the content. Screen readers can't help the blind, here. (And yes, blind and low-vision folks do consume content on KZread...)

So there's long been a debate over which Captain is "best", and obviously it's a pretty silly debate because there's no definition for "best" and it really is about who's your personal favorite. But I've always been intrigued by the question of "who would you want to serve under?". For me it's hands down Captain Pike. I love Kirk but I'd be worried he'd get me killed and Picard can be a bit aloof even for his senior staff. Sisko is great, but between administrating the station, being a battle commander and lets not forget a religious figure it would be intimidating to talk with him (afraid to waste his time).

Yes, a film after a few seasons makes total sense….. has to be the exit!!

I totally disagree with you. SNW has been simply the best of all the shows. And I loved "Subspace Rhapsody." This group of writers is doing a fantastic job of balancing characters, story arcs, and genres to produce some fantastic episodes. Nobody is screwing up ST.
