You forgot one thing about Abraha Elephant is: they do trample damage. Much better than regular trample, Abraha Elephant do FULL TRAMPLE DAMAGE to everything around them. 1 halberdier or 9 halberdiers, Abraha Elephant kill both with the same amount of time.

what is a hero ? i think youd be called a hero if you are building a castle by yourself while getting arrows shot at you at the same time then proceed to 1 hit the archer who shot you. THATS A HERO

actually, that plumed archer is just a normal unit, they just changed the name. it doesn't regain health as time goes by.

Another thing about Jean Bureau is the fact that he cannot attack ground as noted by TheViper when he had trouble defeating those super micro A.I. Longbowmen on the Joan de Arc campaign.

SotL, Ornlu will always be #1 in my heart. No other heroes can survive being killed several times, only to travel across the entire world!

Spirit of the law (hero) stats: 20 attack, 5 melee armor, 5 pierce armor. When linked with the japanese civ, gains +10 attack, double attack speed, +3 armor for pierce and melee. If down to half health, will begin using mathematics in combination with his attacks, boring his enemies due to a lack of explanation. All damage against him is halved.

I always thought, that Spirit is a monk hero, that converts everything in AoE (area of effect). Unique tech "Math" lets him restore faith "almost instantly".

Bit sad that arguably the most notorious Viking and first king of the Normans, Rolf the Ganger, is relatively weak. He was a giant who fought in dozens of battles, but still fathered a dynasty and became 80-something years old. If anything he deserves that elephant's stats :D

+OytheGreat Only, Hrolfr de Normandie was not a Viking. He was a Scandinavian settler and didn't perform any Vikings (the word 'Viking' just means 'Reaving' or 'Raid' - it's the action, not the name). He didn't fight in 'dozens of battles' just because he was present - he was a fantastic leader, but not much of a fighter. Likewise with Charlemagne, who wasn't even close in skill to some of the fighters at his own court - let alone the greater world. Roland and Ogier, if they are based on real people, are two obvious examples. Of course, both could just be fictional. Charlemagne was really just victorious in most of his conquests by pure luck (or earlier luck). He always had the technologically superior force, being born into a technologically superior nation, and just so happened to be born at the right time for him to later become Holy Roman Emperor when the Pope needed to assert Church power (while simultaneously being protected from the increasingly powerful nation of Andalusia/Muslim Spain and parts of Northern Africa). He was a fine tactician, but definitely had luck on his side (indeed the Frankish kingdom wouldn't have united without the 'luck' of his brother's death...), and definitely wasn't a very good fighter. P.S. Everyone that reproduces will father (or mother) a dynasty. It's just that most dynasties are shit when it comes to the feudal hierarchy (which no longer exists in the vast majority of the world's nations, fortunately).

Wasn't there a Viking warrior at Stamford Bridge who singlehandedly held the bridge for ages, killing everyone who tried to cross (until he was slain by an arrow fired beneath the bridge?). He would have kicked major ass as an Age of Kings hero.

Göngu-Hrólfr/ Hrólfr de Normandie led Norse forces in the siege of Paris, which was a part of a viking raid and thus Hrólfr was a viking, no?

+Olvirki I suppose when you look at it like that, he would have been, yes. I don't consider the siege itself (specifically) to be part of the greater raid, but it did happen during said raid. I suppose it could be argued both ways. Still, Hrolfr, Viking or not, was a far greater leader (both civil and military) than an actual fighter himself. Based on what we have (which is almost all post-settling, to be fair), he was a great statesman.

If I remembered correctly, it was Ababil birds that killed them. They throw a lot of rocks to them, and a lot of people say that the rocks are from hell itself.

@@rezafahlevi7503 so basically slingers but done by bird drops from how many feet in the air to do it this must be tested mind you. and the accuracy issue must be tested cause to pull that off would require such accuracy that even most will call bull shit.

Really liked the video, this actually kind of helped me in deciding which heroes to use in my custom scenarios. You should make a similar video but talking about civs unique units. Would love to see how you would rank them.

Hey SotL, dont know if you like this kinda thing with video suggestions but i really would love to see some kind of top 10 biggest counters in AoE Hd with all expansions. not only would it be one of the most statsfiyng things to see with something like elite huskarls slaugthering rattan archers or hand cannoners going to town on teutonic knights, it would also help alot of people understand how counters generally work and which fights NEVER to take or which unit to use in certain situations. And btw: Very enjoyable video i liked the music switch at number 1

Le trien appears in the vietnamese campaign A Three-Pronged Attack.

Really enjoyed these past two lists. Maybe for a future hero list, how about one on the top 10 most useful heroes? Some of them, stats-wise, perhaps aren’t the best, but are indispensable on their respective campaigns. For example, Jean de Lorraine might have low HP, but he helps make the siege of Paris go a lot more smoothly. It’ll limit who can be included, but it’ll be an interesting assessment.

Age of empires 2 was such a important part of our lifes, that my brother uses Ornlu in most of his games as a nickname, and we have sounds from the game in our cellphones.

Could you do a ranking of the monk heroes please? As I remeber there was a monk heroe who can convert units very easily (in less time). It 'll be interesting to watch you analysis in a video.

Abraha Elephant seems even stronger, because it does AOE damage when I tested it.. It can almost beat 8 Elite Teutonic Knights surrounding it..

A La Hire taunt pack on the steam workeshop would be nice. x)

Interesting to see the expansions heroes, but did you check the rise of rajas campaign scenario bayinnaung #4 (time limited scenario, but the time is just barely enough to explore the map and do stuff with it), there is a secondary objective about getting a princess dowry and the guardians are those heroes that are mostly honorable mentions, but they lose to the large number of battle elephants we would bring to them.

Hi Spirit, love your videos. Quick question: How do you test your units in the editor when you want them to attack each other? Mine just run around randomly trying to explore the map instead of attacking. I've read several different solutions online with varying degrees of success. Just wondering how you do it?

Parker Beck Use triggers. Task object command works. Or create a scout cavalry first at the corner of the map and surround by trees. After that only scout tries to move. Others don't.

In AoK 1.0, you can convert heroes. Kushluk, John Fastolf and others... I love converting Kushluk and sending him against his own people to be killed, thus winning the scenario.

Another great video, SotL! Just wanted to point out how to pronounce "Hardraade", as every English-speaking person is totally unable to pronounce old Norse words, or words in languages that originates from old Norse. the "d" is silent (make all the jokes you want), and the double a is pronounced like the now-used Nordic letter "Å", which is pronounced like the two "'a"s in "awkward" or the "o" in "obvious. So Hardraade is pronounced more like "Har-rawde".
