The flagship ESP models, which are Japanese, are called Eclipses. The LTD models, which are modelled after their Japanese line, are called ECs. This one is made in China, but LTDs are made in either Vietnam, China, Indonesia or Korea, depending on when they were made and the price point.

Great trade, pretty cool guitar. Concerning fret work (leveling, crowning and polishing) and guitar setup, a couple years back I purchased all the tools and dedicated a home workbench just for working on guitars. I've had very good results working over the frets/necks of multiple instruments. It's been fun and I've learned a lot, I get a very satisfied feeling when a guitar is finished and plays 100s of times better. Downside, it takes me a considerable amount of time to level, crown and polish the frets of a single guitar. For myself the average time spent per guitar is around 8 to 10 hours. I'm sure that it can be done quicker, I just take my time as it's a hobby. Cost of all the tools was around $400. Some of my tools are homemade, some from Amazon and some from StewMac. For myself having so many guitars and living many hours from the nearest Luthier this skill was almost a necessity. My takeaway from the first couple guitars I did, while they turned out great I still think Luthiers earn their pay and what they charge for a fret leveling, crowning, polish and setup is worth every penny. I will also add, once you start working on guitars (especially the setup) it really becomes apparent why expensive/well built guitars cost what they do. I myself literally groan when I have to work on a lower end/cheap guitar as all kinds of issues pop up due to wonky/cheap materials and craftsmanship. You really do only get what you pay for. Once you get to the $1500 price range for a guitar I've found everything the strings touch are well made and perform exactly as they should regardless of the company/Country of manufacture, I'm just saying. I encourage anyone who is interested in working on their own guitars to learn and do so, it's been very, very rewarding and satisfying for myself and I can't imagine I'm all that different from anyone else.

I have the purple sunburst one. The guitar looks and plays good, but think you'd want to replace some of the parts. Imo the stock tuners were kind of iffy and the bridge pickup sounded a little muddy. Got myself some locking tuners and Duncan JB bridge pickup and couldn't be happier with it.

I briefly owned one of these but cherry sunburst, then traded it for a much needed new acoustic. I still regret letting go of this guitar. In a blues/rock setting it is so versatile tonally, has amazing action (or at least mine did) and is a huge bang for your buck in my opinion. Not anything new happening with this guitar but has just about everything you really need.

EC means "Eclipse". ESP is the main company, made in Japan. This guitar as would be the "ESP Eclipse" budget option, is the LTD EC. EC-100 is the cheapest, I think made in China or Vietnam. EC-256 or the 256 lineup is the made in Indonesia, along with the most expensive Indonesian-made 400 or 401 series. The 1000 series (EC1000, EX1000, MH1000, etc) are all made in S.Korea. Before the "real" ESP, comes the "E-II", which are Japanese-made, but slightly cheaper than the Japanese-made, and USA-made ESP. And thus, this is why I'd get the Ibanez instead.

I worked at a music store and we carried ESP/LTD guitars. The 256 is a real "sleeper". It rocks for dirt cheap! The dealer cost on these was around $175 so we sold them for around $325 without a case, which was a steal for the quality and playability of these set neck beauties. When I was a kid back in the 80s you'd pay $250 for a low quality bolt on LP Copy.

I fret leveled many guitars with a regular bastard file and sandpapers just adjust the neck perfectly flat and masking tape up the fret board so you don't hit the wood. I usually remove the nut and build one out of billet aluminum all I do is mark the frets with sharpie and file them as I see the highs and lows from re marking the fretboard many times especially in trouble areas. As long as you don't dig in too hard I find you can ease into the frets without gougeing. From there when all the marker is gone use very light sandpaper and steel wool to finish it off and shine it up. I have a few videos on my channel early on with fret leveling. My conclusion was it cramps up your hands after about the time it takes to do one guitar 2-3 days 2-3 hrs so I don't trade any more of those as they are such hard work.

I haven't tried an E-II, but from what I can see (and what many say) they're identical to ESP Standards with upgraded attention to detail. Anyone complaining about them being inferior etc are just butthurt over the naming switch, which makes sense to me now as I know a good part of the reason why they did it. Even the LTD Elites (probably their worst name decision ever) even looked ESP Standard solid..

The flame top is dope but the body gets air bubbles , ive tried Gibson and esp , nothing can compare to shecter or music man if thats what u like they both have a premium luxury vehicle feel. You can pick up some fret leveling tools fairly inexpensive on eBay. Watch some Stew Mac videos on fret leveling. It’s not as hard as u would think. The hardest part of it is reshaping the fret after leveling. Some of the Chinese tools are good enough if you’re not doing refrets for a living. Stew Mac has some kits for around $100 and it will be good enough for the stuff youll be doing and u can always buy another tool here and there as you get more in-depth into fret work

Noticed the back of the headstock had China. My EC-256 has Indonesia. I know I’ve had two Squires and the one made in Indonesia was a better quality guitar than the one made in China. Wonder if that’s the case with LTD? Beautiful guitar nonetheless though.

That's a nice looking and sounding guitar for that kind of a price point. This guitar also proves what I have been saying on numerous other channels in regard to this Gibson/Dean Lawsuit - Using the Les Paul body style is OK, just change a few things on the face so that it is obvious that it is NOT a Gibson Les Paul. 99% of guitarists would take one look at this and know it is not a Gibson without having to look at the head stock shape. Since Gibson did NOT invent/create the Les Paul body style, they cannot claim any trademark or copyright infringement and ESP did a great job making that body style their own. I noticed that it sounded more muddy in the middle rather than the usual muddy in the top position. I actually liked the sound coming off the neck on this one. Do you subscribe to the Brad Angove channel? He just did a couple of videos showing how to do the fret work you were talking about and he does it in a way that makes it easy to understand, you should check it out.

I own an EC-1001-FR (yes I meant to type "1001" because that is the slightly higher quality series") and it's easily the best guitar I have ever played. Far superior to any other brand. You can get a better guitar from ESP for $1000 than you can get from Gibson for $5000. If you like the Eclipse series (EC) than I would suggest you look at the X-Tone series (if you like semi-hollowbody) guitars.

I love watching these videos and learn a lot! But I'm somewhat confused that the Reverb listing for this guitar (the one in this video) is $349 plus $65 shipping (Plus Reverb now charges sales tax) and I can get a new one from Sweetwater with free shipping (and hopefully without the problem 14th fret this one has)for less. So do people pay a premium price because the guitar has been featured in your videos? Now that's what I call Internet Famous!
