Intergas HRE system boiler installation with 150L indirect unvented cylinder.
The job required removal of a vented cylinder, cold water storage cistern and shower pump.
New system is set up as Intergas X plan. It is what is called a hot water priority system. Boiler fires at two different outputs and temperatures. For hot water boiler fires at 18kW and 75C flow and for central heating boiler fires at max 7kW output (heat loss of the property) and 65C flow for super efficiency.

    Absolutely second this sentiment. I've turned to doing 90% of the jobs that need doing on the house we moved into 6 months ago because most trades people we've had in don't give any hoots about the work they do, they just do bare minimum and run. I'd rather do jobs to my best ability than paying a trades person to do a job to the least of their abilities.

    The pipe work he installed was beautifully done ✅ in fact the whole job was done in a very professional way,the crap in that system was unbelievable,I’ve fitted my own Combination Boiler a couple of times over the last 20 years, after flushing the system I’ve always put Bluecol antifreeze in the system instead of the chemicals they use,I did this because we have two houses in different areas one of which is a holiday home and doesn’t get used much in winter so the risk of freezing up is minimal if the frost stat fails, the water in my systems is as clear as it was the day I filled it with no sediments at all,I’m Not a plumber but a truck mechanic and you Never see muck like that in a truck cooling system that has had antifreeze in it continuously so I decided to give it a try and have Never had any problems with boiler or pipe work in all these years,no corrosion at all in the steel radiator’s,good as new after inside after 12 years.

I have been getting advice on heat pumps and sure wish I could come across someone with your skills. I just need to replace my forst air gas furnace that is working just fine with an electric furnace/heatpump. It would be nice to just add a heatpump system to my furnace but I was told it was built in 1993 making it too old so you need one of our new ones. I just don’t know what to believe anymore.

    When I retired from plumbing in 2005, push-fit was just starting to come in. I’ve never really used it, it was galvanised threaded pipework, soldered joints, bronze welding or arc welding plant room headers. Being Corgi registered was a real ball-ache, push-fit looks like a dream to use. No blow lamps or benders required.

    Can cause a lot of hassle as the fittings can sometimes pop off if fitted incorrectly or faulty and it doesn’t look as nice as copper, also can’t install plastic too close to the boiler, needs to have a minimum 1 meter run before using plastic because the boiler can melt it, but is definitely easier to install and cheaper because of how expensive copper is right now

    Try it! It gives better hot water reheat times, better efficiency on heating. You can also install much smaller cylinders. If you were to pair a 30kW intergas boiler with a 125L high gain cylinder ( joule for example) you can have under 12 minutes reheat times, meaning you can never run out of hot water when using one outlet , pretty much like using a combi but with much better flow rates. You will also stand out from your competition when quoting.

First off they put the included thermostat that does outdoor+indoor compensation in a cupboard, and installed a wireless on/off thermostat with no compensation (was set to a fixed flow temp of 50*C), Was multiple leaks when the system was installed. Manage to fix most issues, moved the thermostat out and enabled temperature compensation, Is now costing a 1/3 of the money to heat the house and its much more comfortable.

    When I needed a new boiler I chose a comventional one so I could keep the hot water cylinder. The old boiler could not be used because the heat exchanger was leaking and I had to wait a few weeks for the new one to be installed. If I had a combi boiler that would have been weeks with no hot water. I was able to heat the rooms with electric heaters. Also the new boiler was a straight swap except for the addition of a condensate pipe, making the installation easy and quick. which no doubt cut the labour cost.

    Those systems are so much more complicated when compared to what you find in the typical North American home. I'm from Québec, so almost all heating is done using electricity. The only place where you will find hot water central heating is large buildings such as hospitals and universities. Filters are rare. Most systems don't have any pumps as city water pressure is usually high enough. That also means we don't have any return, or circulation loops. That's one thing that I do think we could really learn from. Must be nice to have hot water almost right away when turning on the tap. We don't pay for water, so wasting a few litters waiting for hot water isn't a huge concern. The vast majority of North American homes only have a hot and cold pipe with an electric hot water tank that needs to be replaced every 10 years.

One question; I have Hive fitted, & not overly keen on it, as it's not really "smart", & would like to swap to Nest open therm. However, intend moving boiler to garage, which is next to current location of boiler where all the electrical connections are. Would it be a complete nightmare to move all the electrics to the garage? Plus, any recommendations for a heat only boiler would be appreciated. Thanks 👍

    Great install, so good to see someone that would never question staying until the job is done. When I had a new system installed a couple of years ago all they were interested in was getting to the next job as quickly as possible. We had two small children and a new born in a house without heating for three weeks because they couldn’t be bothered to work out the right way to integrate the new system with the existing pipe work or spend the couple of hours after the install making sure it was all working. Also, press fit is the future! Why doesn’t everyone use it??

    I’m amazed how the trade has moved on since I “escaped” the industry in 1995. When I started installing heating in 1974 the wall boilers were so heavy, I loved how you just picked this one up and passed it to your mate, the old Potterton Netaheats I used to install were a two man lift in the early models. Great vids, do you still need to be licensed to install an unvented system, I recall when they first came out, I was one of a very few who did the coarse and had the licence, that must of been in the late 80s. Nice workmanship, nice to see! Only point on here is your use of a normally open zone valve on an unvented cylinder 🙁. Part G of the building regs 3.31states “motorised valve, the device should operate to interrupt the supply of energy if the electrical power is disconnected”. This is why a normally closed valve is always supplied with the cylinder. This is one of the 3 major safety devices on unvented cylinders.

  • @UrbanPlumbers

    @UrbanPlumbers

    2 жыл бұрын

    The valve for heating is normally open - so when there is heating demand both valves are in resting position. When there is hot water demand both valves get energised. Heating valve closes, hot water valve opens. Hot water fires at much higher output to quickly reheat the cylinder. Heating works with load compensation and low modulation. If both valves were open you would lose a lot of efficiency on CH.

    There is no combi boiler ( unless you use storage combi) that can give you 20L /min with 45 degrees temp rise. The best combi can give you 15L / min with only 35c temp rise and it will be a monster that will require gas upgrade and most likely will be hugely oversized for the property and inefficient on central heating. Combi boilers are a solution that creates a lot of problems.
