My Dad came to the US from the Netherlands when he was 17. The US made him give up his Dutch citizenship when he went into the military for the helicopter pilot program. Unfortunately, he gave it up 2 years before I was born, otherwise I could have qualified for it. The Netherlands currently does not allow dual citizenship after a certain age. My cousins had to make a choice between being a US citizen (born in the US) and being a Dutch citizen when they turned - I think it was 25, if I remember correctly. Having said all this, if you are looking to escape the US for political reasons, the Netherlands is NOT the place for you. All of my relatives are extremely liberal. They do not understand the need for free speech, taxes are very very high (but in all fairness, you actually get something back for it) and the funniest thing of all is their response to guns. In the US, guns are (mostly) part of our culture. I carry legally and they simply could not understand why, even after I explained how much crime we have here, especially in Kommiefornia. And they hate hate hate pitbulls. The propaganda against that breed runs rampant over there. I have 2 pitties and they are the most lovable doggos ever. Big babies, great with kids. Sure they look and sound mean but they will lick you to death. It our little Min Pin that you need to be aware of...
