    yet not even close to as Great as NY's Joe Sewell or Larry Berra huh... fwiw Sewell hit 11 HRs in 1932 while striking out only 3 times all season... Larry played catcher in huge old/real Yankers Stadium and had 5 seasons with more HRs than SO...ie 1950 he had 27 HRs and only 12 whiffs.... iow Judge whiffs 12+ times every single week and dont play catcher

    This at-bat was mental mastery by Judge. After going down 3-1 on an (admittedly questionable) call, Logan was upset. Pitchers default to their ‘out’ pitch when emotional. So he throws his changeup next pitch, fooling Judge who was looking /thinking heater so hacks super early. Cue a bunch of defensive swings until Judge clocks a changeup he likes in his zone. He doesn’t miss it.

  • @CamKrazy2000

    @CamKrazy2000

    23 күн бұрын

    The count should have been 2-2, the 2-1 pitch was at least a ball below the top of the zone. Webb was shaking his head after that pitch. Judge is great but umps are helping him out by not calling those high strikes. They don't seem to get the fact that he's 6'7.

  • @AR0dful

    @AR0dful

    23 күн бұрын

    @@CamKrazy2000He also has more balls that are called strikes below the zone than anyone in history since they’ve started tracking that, so his height is usually a disadvantage lol

  • @chili015

    @chili015

    23 күн бұрын

    Judge wasn't fooled on the 3-1 changeup. Watch again... he was right on it, perfectly timed as if he was expecting it. He just pulled off a little (look at his head fly out) and swung over the top, which can happen sometimes when a hitter is in a 3-1 count and their eyes light up, they can overswing. Compare that to the homerun swing and you can see his head stay down on it better and the swing was more controlled.

  • @CamKrazy2000

    @CamKrazy2000

    23 күн бұрын

    @@AR0dful I know but that's still advantage Judge. As great as he is, pitchers would have a better chance against him if those high strikes were called consistently even if they stopped calling those low "strikes". I remember Patrick Sandoval of Angels yelling "that's not high!!!" at the ump last week and it wasn't. If umps call those high strikes, pitchers will just go up the ladder and Judge will have to start chasing those pitches. The high 95+ 4-seamer in is always a better option against Judge than any other pitch.

  • @AR0dful

    @AR0dful

    23 күн бұрын

    @@CamKrazy2000 Nah I disagree. Again, stats say he suffers more than anyone else ever on balls called as strikes. Idk the stats offhand, but I’d be willing to bet that he likely gets more calls against him than for him due to his height. Yes, baseball’s a game of sequences and so not getting one high strike changes things in an AB, but the inverse is true. Getting a pitch at his ankles called a strike can ruin an AB, so even if we’re generous and say he gets the high call in his favor as often as the low call against him, I think it’s fair to say that evens out. It’s purely conjecture to say that calling high would hurt him more than the umps not calling low. The likely outcome is if umps started calling high and flat out stopped calling the low pitch, he’d make the adjustment over time. Both high and low strikes are tough to hit, and judge has shown he can hit both if needed (plenty of homers off of both low and high pitches). Idt you can reasonably say his height is overall an advantage for the zone when we have data points that say it hurts him more than anyone else lol

    Umpire misses a pitch almost right down the middle and then calls 8 inches off the plate for the rest of the game. Terrible umpire tonight

    If they start walking Judge they would probably place Soto behind him in the lineup.

    4th pitch was a stone cold strike, 5th pitch should have been strike 3. But ya he's Aaron Judge if anybody deserves it it's him.
