Some people can carry on a conversation while they're playing. With me, you either get a cohesive musical phrase or a cohesive strung-together sentence, but never both.

Kom'rk Ordo What you are saying makes a lot of sense. What Im saying that live music would be a great alternative to what most restaurants already play. (Mostly pop). Pop has a tendency to be attention grabbing, high energy music. Combined with having lyrics, this can be a much more distracting experience while eating. having a live piano would still being somewhat distracting but would make for a calmer and more peaceful environment. You wouldn’t have to focus very much on the music anymore to hear it and understand it.

How are you so good at that?" _what is the correct response to this vague-ass question?????_

I think as artists we forget that we were once in that spot also, so i made sure to never just reply with “just practice bro”. What I tell them i did (pianist) is that i began by learning one song (the scientist by coldplay) because its an easy chords on the left hand and right hand melody, then learn scales, basic theory, then your brain will start to make the connections and you’ll soon be capable of improvising in about a year or sooner if you genuinely love it and practice 40 hours a day. Because someone who generally wants to learn how to do this wont get past the learning Coldplay part.

I'd love to have people like you as guests instead of being told constantly to turn it down. One time, the keyboard was literally set below a quarter volume, no exaggeration, and I was playing quiet music such as Debussy's Arabesque No. 1, and yet I was still told to turn it down! At that point, it was hard trying to get it quieter without muting the keyboard completely!

Rather stunned, I just maintained an ostinato in the left hand for a moment to shake his hand with my right and make him go away. I’ll never forget it. Also, another time I got to the restaurant and started to play and something didn’t feel right with the action (upright). I opened up the top of the piano and found a half-eaten bag of chips inside. Another indelible memory... (same restaurant, oddly enough)
