It might be due to over engineering. The basic truth is that the US focuses more on quality with very limited use case for their drone systems. So, it might cost more and also be ineffective against a work class forces like the Russians in an heavily contested war. Remember that Iran had to come up with something that work for them again a superior force (the US). They are not as rich as the US but they were able to pull it off at a fraction of cost.

Part of the reason Chinese drones perform better is that their control systems connect to GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou, switching from one to the other as needed. Much harder to jam 4 positioning systems than just GPS (which is likely the worst of the bunch anyway, unless you have access to the improved military-only high precision signal, though even that is still worse than BeiDou)

If the US figures it will need more engineers five years from now, it must pray that enough students choose engineering courses or attract immigrants with the desired curriculum; meanwhile, China just increases how many engineering scholarships its government-owned universities will offer. This is why i don't think the U.S can win a war against China. Wars are more than just F-22's and carriers. It's about production of parts, ammunition and technological adjustment. The U.S is now severely disadvantaged in that front. Like Russia they rely on a stockpile of weapons built up during the cold war. The U.S is quick to hype up things like the F-22 which have advanced technologies but have completely neglected the entire supply chain aspect of it. In a war of attrition China will win albeit at a very heavy price.

Ok he’s complaining about buying expensive US made parts with the US taxpayers money. Man the Ukrainians need a decent president.

One question is who in the government is benefiting from these transactions.

americans can't make anything in number, most military hardware produced by the US is a marketing scheme to get funding and once the spectacle wears off, the entire production line gets cancelled and you are left with a handful of white elephants that serve no real purpose other than propaganda.

I still remember the hype about this dtone back in 2022.

As a european drone pilot, have to admit, that the chinese drones are the best in the world. Period. The skydio and autel in the u.s. the french parrot are no match to the dji drones. The same with the fpv drones. China is way ahead of any other countries. High end tech and very reliable drones.

Well they were developing a drone manufacturing base until the Russians blew it up a couple of days ago and I'm entirely sure China will quite happily provide whatever information will be helping in dispatching these drones to thier doom.

The chips used in drone are completely produced by China, because drone doesn't need advanced chips like mobile phones. DJI is actually being sanctioned by the United States.

This tells us all that China alone could shut this war down for Ukraine any day it chooses to. Russia, I'm sure, relies on Chinese parts, and drones also. But Russia has the ability to produce it's own parts, and also gets the majority of its one way drones from Iran.

dji was sanctioned early in war by us due to trade war. uraine was buying them off alibaba earlier. if they buy means going against usa sanction policies?

It is obvious to everyone that typical, cheap drones equipped with standard civilian communication and control units cannot show great results in the case of a strong enemy. Since this is where the EW comes into the fight.But more equipped drones will have a completely different cost, and they will certainly share their technology with the enemy, which would not be desirable. And the enemy will find a solution to the problem here.

Skydio drones were sent to Ukraine to document Russia's destruction in Ukraine, not as offensive weapons. They were sent in 2023 and were quickly sent off course and lost. The company has since redesigned the radio and GPS receivers, and software, to better protect them from radio interference from jamming systems. However, the Ukrainian built drones have been proven very effective and cost much less than western made drones. Ukraine has since stopped buying Chinese made Mavic drones.
