The hardest part is just getting space to work. So if you have that You can get started with some clamps , angle grinder, safety gear and there are several videos on KZread on making a cheap forge for heat treating

Here's a challenge for sharpness: fillet onion skin paper without going all the way through, at least a strip 3/4" long, 3/8" wide.

That takes a purpose built knife! I did a custom convex grind kitchen knife that will pull that off, but my wood chopper is never that sharp.
