This system is truly amazing. Revolutionised how organise my work and definitely improved my quality of life in many areas. Congrats. Amazing achievement in the 3D printing world!
new here but you’re a riot and i’m here for it. keep it up you cyborg
PRUSA should send you an XL and MK4 for review. There are so many KZreadrs that cover 3D printing only. That being said, you are PROJECT oriented. This provides another perspective which is valuable to people who use printers as a manufacturing tool.
Hi Zack this project is beautiful, I'm trying to bring it to Italy because at the moment I don't see any videos in Italian that talk about it. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing your ideas announced.

You totally got me, I saw this on the 4th and didn't realize it was released on April Fool's. I was getting ready to download the baseplate model to start making a modular colored pencil cup system. I wondered why I had this nagging feeling that you weren't showing any cups...
Going to be honest, I seriously thought you were serious about all of this until the co-host asked where is the organization aspect of Gridfinity 2.0 Can't wait until people do mazes and contraptions using Hextraction, though! Like, those series of tubes and obstacles they make ball bearings run through? I bet they would look super cool with something like this!
Got an idea for the game. Magnet tiles. 😈 if they're strong you can make the balls knock each other off too. Might interfere with other parts like the spinning ones but would that be more fun?
@conorstewart2214
Жыл бұрын
It is a good idea, a magnet could hold a ball that passes over it so it can then get knocked off by another ball. Or could curve the balls in unexpected ways.
This is going to be just as big as the original, mark my words. There is nothing more addictive and classic than marbles in tunnels. This is the Mousetrap of the new millennium. I already have ideas for custom tiles and I haven't even seen all the default ones yet. This is maker chocolate. Well done. ^,.'.,^

Indeed, the only thing I worry about a little is the board is so planar and the hexagon are perhaps a little too small to get really creative with. Really needs a second and perhaps third layer just for fun, and the rules probably need to allow for some amount of 'special' tiles that are larger than the standard single hex so we can do more insane stuff with it!

@@josuelservin Very true - however while the initial idea is still a bit more in beta I think it better to hope the standard the Z is creating may be refined further rather with our good ideas in mind than create a fork that may well end up incompatible with the changes we know he is planning. And as I currently lack a decent printer can't test some of the dafter ideas I've come up with yet anyway - magic smoke got everywhere and I've not got around to restoring it yet.
@glowpon3

@@foldionepapyrus3441 What if we made placeholder hexagons you can swap out once the full set is placed? Alternatively you can design sets of them that do the insane thing together but apart are just broken. Doesn't change the rules since the balls will either get stuck or fall off either way. I like the idea of a layered board, then you can have funnels to the lower level.
@foldionepapyrus3441
Жыл бұрын
@@glowpon3 Can also have catapult that hold a marble until the the trigger end is hit etc. I was thinking the best way for layers is just to have the start be liftable 3 or maybe 4 tiles higher than the base as needed. And perhaps with some empty shell tiles that can be played freely above/below the tile you just played as a spacer.
Your calling out Prusa's april fools tradition completely disarmed me and I thought there is no way this is an april fools thing. You had me.
You're one of my favorites on the internet, and I don't even have a 3D printer.
This is how to do an april fool video. Fun. Self explanatory ("just a teaser"). By indroducing something new. And by showing off the power of gridfinity through the whole video.
You really made it multiplayer! Outstanding and so creative
Very entertaining to watch while looking for stuff to print. Cheers mate, earned a subscriber (:
Is Hextraction a nod to Gravitrax? P.S. Please tell me you are, in fact, changing the Gridfinity license.
Small suggestion, not a big deal, but a hex grid of 7 tiles across (4 on the on the edge) would have loose synergy with a couple other games. Like Isopath by Pocket 83. Tho your current grid has synergy with Catan. Which is probably a better option. Just thought I would mention it since this is something I've put research into while designing my own games.
Awesome! Thanks for the nice vid and design.

create ultra tiles that take up more slots, but you have to forgo a turn per extra tile space or something to get one
You know this is going to compel someone in creating a hexagonal version of Gridfinity now right? Because it actually seems like a neat idea, aside from working around when hexagons are cut in half and odd remainders crop up.
@drsnova7313
9 ай бұрын
No, it would be a terrible idea for any real-world use. (i.e. storing non-hexagonal things in or on workspaces, containers and drawers that are rectangular). All of the advantages of hexagons would either be irrelevant for a storage solution, or are negated by having individual containers, and not a connected grid of them.
This looks and sounds fun! Will print some of them for sure.
Respect man. You’re the best 3d printing channel around

Awesome! something to print with my prusament hexagonal fillament!
For the first bit I thought it was serious and was worried about fragmentation, but then I realized right before you revealed it that it was April 1st.
the coolest thing about the hexagon is that it is in fact a good and reasonable compromise between the square and the circle.... and also the same reasons why bees use this shape in their hives.... see a hexagon approximates the overall surface to volume ratio to maximize the amount of internal storage whilst still remaining stackable. wheras a cube shape of tub uses more material, so takes a bit longer to print relatively speaking. perhaps hexagons are wasteful though insider of larger rectangular storage you typically put them like drawers. or things you put into them. so it would complicate matters too much in general. but they would be more volumetrically effecient for tabletop pen organizers or for smaller granular materials. like tiny screws and so on. flowing things that have a better packing ratio.
In all honesty, the upgrades to the baseplate with the new hexagon shape are pretty sweet. I might start designing organizing stuff for that.
I was excited to start in on Gridfinity with a brand new format, since I haven’t yet started on gridfinity 1.0.
