earMUSIC proudly announces a remarkable re-release series of the (almost) entire ANNIHILATOR catalogue.
Fans have been waiting years and it’s finally happening: the much sought-after and previously unavailable Annihilator back-catalogue is getting a series of reissues via earMUSIC.
Now, “METAL II” kicks off this extensive catalogue campaign that will give you special editions, bonus material, exclusive and previously unreleased tunes: All For You!
In total, there are roundabout 18 records to be released over the next few years, including the original 2007 version of the “METAL” album.
METAL II has been given an incredible overhaul with the one and only Dave Lombardo (Dead Cross, ex- Slayer) killing the drums and lead vocals "re-invented" by the great Stu Block (Into Eternity).
Waters passed over mixing duties to legendary engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Van Halen) and it was re-mastered by Maor Appelbaum.
The guest list on the album is huge with more than a dozen KILLER artists from bands like Lamb Of God, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom, Nevermore, In Flames, Trivium, Danko Jones, Anvil, The Haunted and Lynam: One big metal party!
The first single from this new recorded METAL II Album will be the song “DOWNRIGHT DOMINATE (feat Alexi Laiho)” airing on November 12th 2021!
When Jeff was asked “Which record would you re-do, if you could and why?", with no hesitation, it was "Metal". So, what we have now is a 2021 record that is called "Metal II", appropriately, featuring all the original guest tracks from 2007 with Jeff Waters at the helm.
Waters closes: “Although Alexi Laiho’s shredding in "Downright Dominate" and the Van Halen song "Romeo Delight" were recorded a while back, adding Stu and Dave to these songs gave us all the feeling that "Metal II" is also a fitting tribute to our 2 fallen guitar heroes. Ed and Alexi, R.I.P.
The release of ANNIIHILATOR’s “METAL II” record is dedicated to the memory of Eddie Van Halen and Alexi Laiho!

Bingo! Exactly what I thought listening to it. Phil back when he could sing. As for Lombardo, what can you say. that signature sound on the snare and style that just well.... DOMINATES.

I remember interviewing Jeff in his tour bus when Metal came out. I asked him if he was gonna play Downright Dominate that night. He said "No I ain't gonna play a 3-minute Alexi Laiho solo on stage!" Humble dude, I'm sure he would nail it like crazy. Great version, Stu and Dave do an awesome job. Please keep them in the band, lock them up in your man cave if need be!
As a longtime fan of Annihilator and Iced Earth it would be nice to hear Stu Block singing on new Annihilator studio album.

He was an awesome performer, too. I saw him live on the first Unholy Alliance tour. In the middle of the Follow the Reaper solo, he launched a massive gob of spit in the air, took like two steps back, and swallowed it when it came down. One of the greatest moments of my young life. Mastodon had a tough act to follow after that insanity, but they rose to the occasion.

Well now you can spend time checking out his works. I know I'm a fan boy. But that dude really was special. Write killer riffs and solos, playing some licks that were harder than some bands solos while singing. Just endless creativity, his own instantly recognizable style. I think he was kind of a randy Rhodes in that regard. Not just amazing solos, amazing song writing. He had hundreds more songs to write. Salute to that legend and all the others that earned that status.

Check out Bodoms live performance at StockHolm. Such a great concert and Alexi was in his prime.
I remember win a ticket to see Alexi Laiho.... it was a monday (working day so) and no friends to come with me. So I take my car alone and go see the super show.... no regrets because I had see him for the first and last one :( RIP Alexi ! I also saw Annihilator on this scene later.... It was in Toulouse,France !

So used to hearing the original version it was jarring hearing Stu at first, but this is still a great track. Lombardo kills of course, and the amazing solo tradeoffs are still amazing (RIP Alexi).
I love Jeff’s guitar stuff, the vocals on this sound like the 2nd coming of Phil Anselmo.

Metal is one of my favourite newer Annihilator albums, with a stunning performances from all (stellar) musicians involved - therefore this announcement surprised me... anyway, can´t wait to hear the new versions of the songs with another stellar personnel!

I agree! I love Padden's vocals on this album, and I think Lombardo did a fantastic job, but who's to deny Mangini? This will be great for Annihilator though, as far as helping them regain North American recognition.

Oh hey Alexi, we met again! Your playing is always vivid even if how long it took. Well, I haven’t known this release till today. The order of the tracks are different from the original, so I shall check if that’ll be worth listening to for my new joy with the new Metal or not out :) Clown Parade and Chasing the High might be, I’m sure, highlights this time again!

We're all thinking it, so I'm just going to say it, THIS LINEUP NEEDS A NEW ALBUM. If there ever was a chance for Annihilator to return to their 80s/90s popularity level, THIS IS IT. This could become the definitive Annihilator lineup, and it's very strange that I'm writing this in 2021.

If the future of Annihilator is a real drummer and real producer, I could consider getting back on board. I once owned all of Jeff's albums, but now I own NONE because I got so sick of his fake production and cheesy songwriting. He's been playing the same riffs and solos for 30 years and needs a producer to pull him out of the comfort zone.

@@HeavyMetalSonicRM the producer thing is an issue with most bands that got big enough to bypass the producer as an authority. So yeah, I agree. However, he got Lombardo on board for this project, which is a big step in the right direction, so if he keeps this lineup you wont have to listen to programmed drums anymore. Now, all we need is an album with these guys and good songs.

Padden already recorded the original vocals on this album! They are keeping the original version, and doing a Metal 2 with Lombardo and the Iced Earth guy.
