Annie Lennox surprises Sting at the Polar Music Prize 2017
Музыка
Annie Lennox made a surprise appearance at the Polar Music Prize Banquet 2017.
Sting and Wayne Shorter received the Polar Music Prize on June 15, 2017 at a ceremony at Konserthuset Stockholm in Sweden.
Several artists honored the Laureates together with the The Royal Stockholm Philarmonic Orchestra, led by maestro Hans Ek. One exceptional highlight of the evening was Annie Lennox surprising Sting by attending the evening. To honour him, Lennox performed Sting's ”Fragile”.
José Feliciano also read the citation for Sting ( • Sting receives the Pol... ):
"The 2017 Polar Music Prize is awarded to the singer, musician and composer Sting, real name Gordon Sumner, from Wallsend in Northumberland. Sting grew up in a shipyard town in northeastern England. As a child his thoughts and dreams roamed as far as the ships that sailed from his town. Internal and external travel has also characterised his music. As a member of the trio The Police, and later as a solo artist, Sting has never sat back and rested on his laurels; he has put down his anchor in more musical harbours than perhaps any other artist of his generation. As a composer, Sting has combined classic pop with virtuoso musicianship and an openness to all genres and sounds from around the world. Sting is a true citizen of the world, who has also been indefatigable in using his position as an arena-filling artist to promote human rights."
The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by the late Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, one of the true greats in the history of popular music. As the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA, he played a key role in their enormous success. Its name stems from Anderson’s legendary record label, Polar Music.
The Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements.

Annie Lennox has a genius IQ and the voice of a Siren. I would shipwreck myself to see her in concert again. Wrapped in what looked like leopard skin, feral and fearless, she tore the roof off the Orpheum. She's right up there with Paul Rodgers and Freddie, a rock goddess, born from original sin. She redeems us every time she sings a note. I hope she lives forever.

Holy f*****g shit. She just came out of nowhere, sat by the piano, played it like Chopin while singing one of the most touching songs in history with such a deeply sad and emotional voice, absolutely nailing it, making Sting cry, just minutes after he said "WOW" when she entered the stage - this just has to be the definition of pure art. I REALLY couldn't care less if you call me a hater or not (my notifications are turned off so I never get to read what people write in response to my comments so please don't waste your time). People are ENTITLED to their opinion. Music (and other forms of art) are subject to OPINION. Just because YOU think a piece of music sounds gorgeous doesn't make it "ultimately true". To me, this particular performance was mediocre at best and I am FAR FROM BEING deaf (I have an amazing musical ear). Even she said "I tried" knowing that her rendition was sort of imperfect and left a lot to be desired. I'm not hating. I think Lennox is an amazing artist and a beautiful person but that particular performance was NOT good at all. Enjoy your life off the internet. OUT.

Have you noticed that she uses all of Stings' characteristic little pitch changes, his whole vocal expression, even the exact way he forms his voice and even the way of his breath. Like a block of cement, as soon as this song started, it immediately stopped Sting in his tracks and literally took him back to every single memory he has of this song. You can see it in his face.. Only a few in the World that can do that and Annie Lennox is most certainly one of them. Wow!

This is HOW to sing emotionally for an audience. Thank you, both
I love Annie and Sting. ❤ Great performance Annie way to go!
I can see where she'd have thought Sting would instantly guess which song she chose - the most powerful voice singing about the delicacy of being fragile. She's such a beautiful person in and out.
I love her original chord arrangements. A true musician.

Always enjoyed her and Sting as well. Check out her singing "September in the Rain" on youtube. Fabulous!! Saw Sting in Connecticut in late 80's.
The level of humility that this great lady of music has, when she says that she has tried to sing the song, is incredible like the great artists, but the truly great artists, they pay tribute and mutual respect to each other, those are some incredible exponents and legends of music, who are truly applauded for their great and wonderful career, not all artists of this decade are bad and disrespectful, but there are a few, who really are better off not even saying a word!! But here there is no comparison ever, ever with these magnificent stars!! Bravo to these artists forever!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤
Blessed to be part of a generation that had such musical icons !
So glad KZread sent this to me. I sit here in Covid lock down listening to Annie’s rendition of fragile, almost weeping thinking about the thousands that have died, and the impact on the world this plague has imposed. Never has there been a time like this. We truly are fragile. Hug your children and loved ones. 🌹😥🌹

under lockdown here in D.C. not that different than hunkering down in an extended weather emergency. but at least you can see weather. not knowing what thing you touch will send you to the hospital. thats scary.

Daniel. At this point I think I’ll take the weather. I’m hear in Florida and all we need is a bad hurricane season to top this whole thing off. I truly am praying we get a “buy” on the hurricane stuff. Take care, stay well. ☮️
Very few people write poetry like Sting does. Bravo Annie 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
...he was obviously very moved....well done Annie ❤
Only a true artist such as she could continue to perform with the crushing amount of emotion coursing through her soul, phenomenal performer!❤
"Nothing comes from violence, and nothing ever could" - This same incantation (of Sting's) from her work in the film A Private War. Ms Lennox is a treasure !
