Anything Else: Annie found that she didn't have to use the remote lockout that much on a course such as Stellenbosch. The super round profile of the tyres provide a constant feel which she prefers in a trade off to squarer, higher profile tyres. Annie doesn't want a dropper for Stellenbosch, so will hold it in reserve for tougher courses, maybe in combination with her hardtail.

Annie is a boss for being able to ride the Stellensbosch XC course technical sections on those pinner tires with tiny knobs! That is gnarly, searching for grip with those things while your redlining your heart/breathing and with a fixed seat post. Props!

#askgmbntech Hi Doddy, bit of a random question, but why don't other fork manufacturers mark the travel indicators on their stanchions? Does Rockshox have a patent on that?

Good question! Maybe not at Stellenbosch but there's bound to be some courses they will! bear in mind that they are still using a much bigger front ring than you or I would...so even in 38-50 they'll still produce a lot of forward motion!

the tires really do look fast, but the MTB tires from michelin perform really really badly in the rolling resistance lab. Like the XC force performed worse than some all mountain type tires. It had more rolling resistance than a Nobby Nic Pacestar, or a Conti Mountain King. i i compare the Michelin XC Force that she uses, it is on average 60g heavier than a same sized Schwalbe Racing Ralph or almost 100g than Schwalbe Thunder Burt. At a pressure of 25 psi, it is respectively 11 watts and 13 watts slower than the other tires. Mulitply that by two and we are talking about 25 watts saved! in real world conditions, the diffrence is generally even more! the only advantage the Michelin has, is better tread puncture resistance and perhaps handling(if Annie prefers it, but i highly doubt that Schwalbe doesn't know anything about a good handling tire). No idea why she does that or she even knows about that still, love the video, doddy looking cool and annie being nice.

Thanks a lot. I spend my time looking for the fastest tires on my XC and road bike. I can really recommend bicyclerollingresistance. Generally, the rubber makes the biggest diffrence. And i certainly don't want to say the Continentals GMBN is running are bad, it's only that Schwalbe makes them quite a lo faster rolling. But you will have to really dig around to find the fastest tires, without skidding all over the place. Prototypes may be faster, but i highly doubt it, since the compound and carcass aren't refined. Tread doesn't make that diffrence, despite it may look like it. A Racing Ralph rolls only 3 watts faster than a Hans Dampf with the same compound. Considering their FTPs thats not a marginal gain anymore! Look them up. there are huge differences to find out

The cranks simply offer the best powermeter for mtb that is out there. The brakes on the other hand are an interesting choice, because I know way more people that race and hate them than people that actually like them.

  • @plaicknaa

It comes down to sponsorship and not just the quality of a product. If you put for example the level ultimate up against the mt8 you'll find out that the sram has a slight advantage over the magura. The riders do not always use the best material. They use the material which they are sponsored by the team.

though i don't plan on racing anytime soon, i plan mt8s on my weightweenie build. don't want to get formula r1s since they use dot and have a very small distance between rotor and pad. maybe go for XTR brakes, but i think that they are heavier than the MT8s. By hatet them, you mean what? just curious
