Annie Haslam - Going Home

Музыка

This is a video I created several years ago but had to delete after Warner Music filed a complaint. Lately, I've noticed there are several other videos which use the song, so I'm assuming Warner Brothers has come to an agreement with KZread. Therefore, I am uploading the video again.
The song is, of course, based on the largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony.
Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet like some still day,
I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by -
through an open door;
Work all done, care laid by,
going to fear no more.
Mother's there, expecting me.
Father's waiting, too.
Lots of folks gathered there -
all the friends I knew.
All the friends I knew!
I'm going home!
Nothing's lost, all's gain.
No more fret nor pain.
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more!
Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Real life's begun.
There's no break.
there's no end.
Just a living on.
Wide awake with a smile.
Going on and on.
Going home, going home.
I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by -
through an open door.
I'm just going home.
I'm just going home!
Going home, going home.
Going home...

    Our pastor and his family are beloved friends of me and my whole family. We have a long history of friendship. He married my wife and me 39 years ago. He conducted the funeral for our first Grandson who passed away from SIDS at just five months old. Last night, he and his son, also a pastor of another church, bravely conducted the funeral for his wife of nearly 60 years at our church. The outpouring of love and respect for her was tremendous. The sanctuary was packed for the service. Folding chairs were carried up. Some sat in the choir loft. Many more stood. The service lasted 90 minutes. No one became restless. It was a very touching service. Our pastor described his love and deep respect for his wife. His Son spoke on behalf of his siblings, honoring their beloved Mother. I was asked to close the service with this song. In my 44 years as a performing musician, I'd never attempted to sing an operatic sounding piece of music. But his wife always loved my singing and guitar accompaniment, and this song was special to them both. And there was no way I was going to let the family down. I sang my simple arrangement. Thanks be to God, I made it through the emotional moments. The family reacted verbally to the beautiful, moving words that comforted them so much at that moment. I can't think of a more fitting, more appropriate closing for such a meaningful service remembering such a special lady.

    I lost my wife twelve years ago now and there were a list of songs I could not get through without crying, this is one of them. Twelve years later I can do it knowing she is up in heaven, her home. Just a lovely song❤❤

    My oldest sister, Susie, died July 16, 2018. I asked her daughter Robin, to play this for her and she was able to just a few days before Susie passed. Our parents 'went home' a long time ago and Susie's husband, Dan, 'went home' 7 or so years ago. These words seem to me to be theologically correct and that's what I love about it. Pretty near tears now.

    Thank you for your service. You are a true patriot, as are all your brethren and those who have fallen. I looked for this song forever. I just found it because I heard it played on NCIS, I think. I wanted it played for my Dad. He passed last March, 2022. He came for my Mom on Valentine's Day 2023, just 20 minutes past midnight. They were together almost 70 years. He loved her so so much. There was no one else in his universe. It's fitting that he came for her on Valentine's Day. The pain of their loss is just too much. I listen to this and think of my Dad. And I cry.

    My thoughts join you in your grief... My dear Mum died three decades ago and the pain endures... I think sometimes, the deeper the pain the more the reflection of the most wonderfully loving Mum you had.... For me, I had the best Mum in the whole wide world, for you it is the same, God bless you, comfort you and keep you strong; I think there must be many good Souls who understand The utter depth of grief you so well express in just four words... Now and then, try to be easy on yourself, and keep the faith...hold onto hope, if you can.
