Annie Haslam - Going Home
Музыка
This is a video I created several years ago but had to delete after Warner Music filed a complaint. Lately, I've noticed there are several other videos which use the song, so I'm assuming Warner Brothers has come to an agreement with KZread. Therefore, I am uploading the video again.
The song is, of course, based on the largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony.
Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet like some still day,
I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by -
through an open door;
Work all done, care laid by,
going to fear no more.
Mother's there, expecting me.
Father's waiting, too.
Lots of folks gathered there -
all the friends I knew.
All the friends I knew!
I'm going home!
Nothing's lost, all's gain.
No more fret nor pain.
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more!
Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Real life's begun.
There's no break.
there's no end.
Just a living on.
Wide awake with a smile.
Going on and on.
Going home, going home.
I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by -
through an open door.
I'm just going home.
I'm just going home!
Going home, going home.
Going home...

Our pastor and his family are beloved friends of me and my whole family. We have a long history of friendship. He married my wife and me 39 years ago. He conducted the funeral for our first Grandson who passed away from SIDS at just five months old. Last night, he and his son, also a pastor of another church, bravely conducted the funeral for his wife of nearly 60 years at our church. The outpouring of love and respect for her was tremendous. The sanctuary was packed for the service. Folding chairs were carried up. Some sat in the choir loft. Many more stood. The service lasted 90 minutes. No one became restless. It was a very touching service. Our pastor described his love and deep respect for his wife. His Son spoke on behalf of his siblings, honoring their beloved Mother. I was asked to close the service with this song. In my 44 years as a performing musician, I'd never attempted to sing an operatic sounding piece of music. But his wife always loved my singing and guitar accompaniment, and this song was special to them both. And there was no way I was going to let the family down. I sang my simple arrangement. Thanks be to God, I made it through the emotional moments. The family reacted verbally to the beautiful, moving words that comforted them so much at that moment. I can't think of a more fitting, more appropriate closing for such a meaningful service remembering such a special lady.
I am with a lady of my church right now as she is passing. I am playing this song. Truest no mor pain or sorrow. Rev. 21:4
I lost my wife twelve years ago now and there were a list of songs I could not get through without crying, this is one of them. Twelve years later I can do it knowing she is up in heaven, her home. Just a lovely song❤❤

It will be two years next month that my dear mother passed away. I miss her so much.
My oldest sister, Susie, died July 16, 2018. I asked her daughter Robin, to play this for her and she was able to just a few days before Susie passed. Our parents 'went home' a long time ago and Susie's husband, Dan, 'went home' 7 or so years ago. These words seem to me to be theologically correct and that's what I love about it. Pretty near tears now.
I used to think this song was so very sad I couldn't help but cry. But since my parents, only brother and now beloved husband died I don't cry when I hear it I feel peace.

Thank you for your service. You are a true patriot, as are all your brethren and those who have fallen. I looked for this song forever. I just found it because I heard it played on NCIS, I think. I wanted it played for my Dad. He passed last March, 2022. He came for my Mom on Valentine's Day 2023, just 20 minutes past midnight. They were together almost 70 years. He loved her so so much. There was no one else in his universe. It's fitting that he came for her on Valentine's Day. The pain of their loss is just too much. I listen to this and think of my Dad. And I cry.
We played this at my dad's funeral in 2021. It's been a family tradition to have this. I love it❤ xx
OMG! Such a beautiful song. Annie, You are always the best. Love you.
I am part of a prayer group and a lady asked for prayers for her sister who has dementia and is close to dying. I am a musicians (Irish harp) and in response to the prayer request, the melody of Going Home came to me, but I couldn’t remember the name and then I found this. The song and the video were so well done. Thank you. I am moved.
This song helped me thru my husbands illness, death and memorial service
My dear Mum passed on Wednesday 23/06/21 She always wanted this at her funeral. We will be playing it at the graveside. She went gently towards the light and she has gone home. My heart is breaking.

My thoughts join you in your grief... My dear Mum died three decades ago and the pain endures... I think sometimes, the deeper the pain the more the reflection of the most wonderfully loving Mum you had.... For me, I had the best Mum in the whole wide world, for you it is the same, God bless you, comfort you and keep you strong; I think there must be many good Souls who understand The utter depth of grief you so well express in just four words... Now and then, try to be easy on yourself, and keep the faith...hold onto hope, if you can.

@@dennisroyhall121 Thank you for your kind words. Mum's funeral was beautiful( if you can say that about a funeral?) Despite a huge family rift that threatened to spoil the day. We all decided to let it go, and it was so peaceful. At her committal, the sun came out and we played Going Home. Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement and love. XX
My dad's passed one the18th of Feb hope he's home xxx
In loving memory of Doreen, February 1924 - June 2018, who now sings in the presence of the Bright Morning Star. No more care, fret, pain, stumbling, roaming. See you there when I've finished.

Beautifully realized vision of the end for believers. Which is not an end but a journey to our real home

what a beautiful song...we are all going to go home
My sister Linda went home this morning around 1:30. She is with her our mom and dad and Our brother Arnold and Jr. she is no longer in pain.
Played this at my Dad's service in 1997. His birthday would be in a few days and today found his funeral card with the lyrics on the back. I know I will be golng home one day and will see him and Mom again.
I post this to Twitter every year on the anniversary of my mum passing away in 2018. I want this played at my funeral. From Annie Haslam's splendid 1977 album 'Annie in Wonderland' (a collaboration with her then love interest, Roy Wood).
This song has heart, and someday I hope to go home.
A song for the weary soul.
one of the best. if not the best rendition of this hymn.
Your video is as beautiful as the song! Thanks so much for posting this for us.
Beautiful. Such a moving song.
Played "Going Home" at my Great-great-grandfather's gravestone dedication and my Mother's funeral -- ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY!!!
Thank you for reposting this. I like the image of being in the arms of Jesus! My grandmother, who had a hard life, was eager to meet the Lord. I'm so glad she is in His presence.

Beautiful!
The story goes, Antonín Dvorak, after he had come to America, got lonesome for his family and home land and wrote this song for his yearning to return. That may be so, but after reading the lyrics, I like to think he had God and heaven in mind. Just my thoughts.
Humbling. Lost for words at this rendition and reading the comments

Wow. When I was little I was practicing this song in a school play. When I was 4 or 5. I loved this song so much it was nice to sing. Older I forgot about this song but I heard a similar beat and remembered.
beautiful !!!
Well done. Chloe Agnew also has a nice version This is my favorite version of this song. I am rediscovering Annie and really appreciate the quality of her voice. The choir is also very good and a nice touch.
amazing and i love Annie..
Chris Squire did this as a solo instrumental in 2003. I put both versions in my "Yes..studio" playlist. Thanks for the upload!
Beautiful song, probably the one I've always preferred on Annie In Wonderland since I got to listen to the album circa 1991, I guess. And the video is very nice too... Well done. :)
Heard this sung at Roman’s funeral on Big Love ❤
