Love to hear back from you, I have a Morgan pacer who is a "rescue", she has that beautiful high-stepping trot. I use a hackamore, the bit just did not work, and she does beautifully.

The ground sounds hard. Do you think it might be hurting her feet? I'm not sure, but I've heard trotting on hard surfaces--especially with shoes--can harm their joints.

I rescued a standardbred. I'm a novice rider but I ride her. I had a trainer train her. As long as you lean way back, heels down and hold their head up! Fantastic animals! My girl is mellow. We are still learning together.

I had a mare who's extended trot was a pace and it was so awful to ride. she was only 14.1 - 14.2 hands high and your body would rock back and forth as she paced.... I only recently realized that was what she was doing after watching pacers race.

I beg to differ. I think that a pacing gait is natural. If you take two standardbred off the track (a mare and a stallion), breed them and raise their baby, unless you train them to rack or do otherwise, they will pace naturally. My family started out with standardbred that were once off the track pacers, and now like 20 years later the off spring still pace naturally.

So this is a horse that was bred and trained to pace. Pacing is a lateral 2 beat gait( front right/back right, front left/back left) and is usually seen in standardbreds. Pacing replaces, usually, the trot and sometimes the canter. So it depends. Do you want a horse who paces? Or do you like the smoother trot and canter?

I don't think this horse is pacing because if a horse is pacing it can't runs curves, just straight lines. When they try to walk curves while pacing they would fall over on their side of their body. The way the legs are moving are: the right front leg/the right back leg are moving in the same time and the left front leg/the left back leg are moving in the same time. So when a horse is trying to pace a curve they would dump over or fall in gallop or tölt (when the horse is able to tölt). So I think this was just a stiff tölt. That's why you are hopping on the horse because it can't let you sit probably cause it's very stiff.

All you have to do is look at the rider's head and shoulders to see if the horse is smooth...This poor woman is getting jarred to death.. Most TWH horses you see at the BIG SHOWS that are PADDED UP and HAVE CHAINS on are pacing horses. They keep adding the weight to the shoes and the chains, to give them the "BIG LICK". A "natural gaited horse" doesn't suit those big time show people. It's cruel the way they weigh those horses down with weight and chains.

whether your poor horse has shoe's or not. It's totally irrelevant to the speed you are riding him over the stone's. You obviously treat your poor horse's a he'll of alot different to what we do in Australia. Over here that is classed as cruelty. Poor horse 😪 You seriously have NOOO f.....@ idea.
