Sexton reads a poem from the last collection of poetry released in her lifetime 1974's 'The Awful Roaring Toward god'.

I heard her read this poem shortly before she died. She sounded real---in pain, perhaps. I will never forget the attention of her "minders" there. She was valued and loved, by those around her and by readers like me. I miss her. The world is poorer without her.

I love this poem. Although it reminds me how tender this time of my life. How kindly my teacher help me to tie my shoes. Nap time I thought was stupid. Put a towel on a hard floor and try to sleep. For the most part I was allowed to suck my thumb? I've lived a peaceful live but we had little money.

@moegudis yes. I really don't think you could have said it better in such few amount of words. Yeah that's exactly what it's like, that's what I feel every time but I just couldn't put it to words I just knew her voice had a edgy kind of sound to it, like a voice that lived long enough to see a lot of shit, a very wise but tired voice.

She almost slurs her words at times. I wonder what was going on for her at the time. Medications, O.D's?

You do get used to her voice though. It's kinda like bukowski with a girly twist.
