Amazing how similar the 1985 Gilbert (Jonathan Crombie) looks like the 1934 Gilbert (Tom Brown).

Montgomery herself did commented on how the second half of this movie is so ridiculously wrapped up as a mellow love story, she liked the first half very much but she didn’t like the second half one bit. And I didn’t like that all of the real life adaptation of the series focused too much on romantic love as if it’s the only interesting thing in the book.

Kaytie Buckhalt I know did the people that produced this movie, never read any of the books. Anne and Gilbert do not end up together that fast. Bad bad bad lol

candi0826 - You're both right. However, it is best for a woman in real life not to play hard to get too long, because the alpha males will have other options. The author of the books was overly picky with men and then was forced by baby rabies, at age 36, to make a hasty decision that she regretted enough to commit suicide over at age 67.

@@wariswrong4920 There is no proof that Montgomery comitted suicide. Definitely not because of her husband.And she started having a romantic relationship with her husband, five years before they married. So there was nothing hasty about that. She was melancholic and worried because of the second World War. And she worked till the end on her Anne novels.

I've had a copy of this movie for thirty five years... Anne Shirley is my young lady extraordinaire.

Thank you sooooo much for the link of the whole movie !!!!

Despite what others may say, I actually like this version of this scene. Granted, it's obviously much different from the original version, but I really enjoy that difference. It seems to work much better for Anne to forgive Gil during right after she gets saved. And it entertains me to see that 'montage' of them secretly courting. And to add, it already is somewhat mimicked in the 1985 version, which already did copy a lot of what was actually in the 1934 film first.

I love this version than others 🥰 I already read the book and watched other versions and the cartoons ..I don't know what this is my most favorite 😆😆 If only this movie is long I really love Gilbert here and Anne..

I suppose you’ve been blasted enough on this, but she was only 16 years old!! Tom Brown, who played Gilbert, was 19 so they were both still children!

The actress that play this Anne (1934) look very pretty then most actresses that play Anne now a days, but watching this scene they escalated very quickly 😂😂😂

Allison Staton that’s because this adaptation is inaccurate, the real Anne was supposed to be skinny and pale and freckled and has a thin long face, she wasn’t exactly the best looking girl in green gables lol

Allison Staton it’s because the actress in Anne with an e (amybeth) literally got her makeup done to make her look uglier. Anne isn’t supposed to be that attractive in the beginning, they just didn’t rly stick to that in this one

But at that ending part, she says that she HAD forgiven him from that accident, but didn't know it then, and she confesses that she had been sorry since.

Bruh 😂 I was definitely not expecting that. It’s been a while since I read the books but I’m fairly certain they didn’t get together until like, book 3 (?)

The Lady of Shalott has been my favourite poem for a while, so seeing my newfound interest (Anne of Green Gables) and it be intertwined this way is... interesting to say the least o-o

The actress Anne Shirley - who played "Anne Shirley" in this film - was first presented as "Anne Shirley, the actress" in relation TO this film. She used the name for a time afterwards. Prior to this, she was known as "Dawn O'Day" - which sounds equally bogus. (dawn of the day?)

@@christopherlyons2279Cary Grant was born Archibald Leach, which doesn’t fit the suave, debonair actor at all, in my opinion. Judy Garland’s real name is Frances Ethel Gumm, which I think is even worse. There are reasons actor’s rename themselves!

Movie/tv show versions of Aogg not following the books never bothered me as long as the changes made sense. But this... this is next level. 😂 Anne changed her opinion on Gilbert so fast wtf. And Gilbert’s voice... 😂😂😂

That version I have been watching on here lately. It is very good and accurate. The episodes I like best and have seen the most are "7", "14", "24", and "31". And the 1985 version I actually have on VHS. My mom likes that one, and watches it sometimes.

1985 is the best actually. Jonathan and Megan are still the Gilbert and Anne from the book series.
