Anne Boleyn & Elizabeth I as Modern Women. Resemblance Through Time.
Ойын-сауық
I'm an artist that uses photoshop to bring old images and statues into the modern day. I use photo-compositing and digital drawing techniques to achieve a more photo-realistic appearance. Today I'm comparing my modern-day re-creations of Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I to see their resemblance through time. I've always felt that the true face of Anne Boleyn can be found somewhere in the face of her daughter, Elizabeth I.

I've always thought the true face of Anne Boleyn could be found in the face of Elizabeth. What do you think of the resemblance between these Tudor beauties?
Anne and Elizabeth both had that "It" factor. The one that made them stand out in a crowd and seem more beautiful than they actually were. I think they were so ALIVE and intelligent and enchanting people were drawn to them like a moth to a flame. It's something that you have to be born with and not learned or taught.
Is it just me or does Elizabeth just look like an incredibly stern teacher who actually cares a lot about her students and does everything to help them? McGonagall vibes through the roof!

Interesting that you said that. I dont know what your beliefs are on the after life, but I watched a video about someone channeling Elizabeth's spirit and that's exactly how she describes her. She said she feels "like a very strick teacher, but loves you very much and only wants what's best for you."

Interesting though. Because she was a super intelligent and extremely educated woman. She also had a very strong personality. If she lived today, I'm sure she would have been not just a teacher but professor or a scientist, or even maybe a judge in a court of law or a great doctor. Definitely she would have been something big.

@Elony5960 ~ I knew that teacher! Miss MKG who taught us 6th Form girls 'A' Level English. Waxed lyrical about 'Queen Mab' who was eulogised in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, she told QM was based on QE1st. That updated picture is her exact likeness and you describe precisely her personality. RIP Miss MKG. Ps. Miss Jean Brody even in her prime was not a patch on our Miss G.
It's funny because your version of modern day Elizabeth seems friendly, warm, and engaging. I can't put my finger on it, but I have a feeling she would have had that magnetic pull even if she wasn't royal.

It's clear from all accounts that Elizabeth had enormous personal charisma. During the reign of her sister, the Spanish ambassador, who was certainly no friend of Elizabeth - he was always urging Mary to put her to death - wrote "The Lady Elizabeth is greatly to be feared. She has a spirit full of enchantment."
I love that you kept Elizabeth's neck covered. She was so often depicted with a ruff that the turtle neck just feels right.
@aubreyackermann8432

Part of me thinks she covered her neck to make herself feel safe- as someone who was violently choked before, sometimes I self soothe by covering my neck, and proving to myself no one can touch me there. With what happened to her mother, feeling that structure against her neck may have felt like armor.
I have read that part of the reason Elizabeth and Mary kept being sent away from court was that Henry couldn’t bear to look at them, as they looked so much like their mothers, with the Tudor red hair and ivory skin.

@@sherriebenson356 well, in Mary’s case, Catherine of Aragon was also a redhead. One of her great-grandmothers was an English lady from the House of Lancaster who married into the House of Trastàmara, the Royal family of Castile and Isabella of Castile’s family. So Mary got the red hair and blue eyes gene from both sides.
OH Anne! She looks like the soul of the party the best friend you could have, and the one that makes you sad when she's far away from you! She deserved better in this world!

It seems that Elizabeth got her mother's nose. I suppose that Elizabeth could have looked this good IF she had never been stricken with small pox. Reputedly, the pox seriously ravaged her face with deep scars, hence her dependence on heavy makeup. Anne's portrait, if at all accurate, could explain Henry's infatuation with her.

Right, the nose and the lower jaw are exactly the same. About the mercury problem, Elisabeth was luckyier than others, a lot of people died or went insane from poisoning also at young age, expecially in 18th century, when this kind of cosmetics reached the apex

No, Elizabeth inherited her father's nose "Somewhat rising in the middest". The hook got more pronounced as she aged. As an old woman, she resembled her grandfather, Henry VII.
I don't know why, but looking at such a clear resemblance between Elizabeth and her mother made me a little emotional. 😅 Especially when both of their smiles were compared.

The resemblance between the “Anne Boleyn” portrait, they’re not sure, but I think the resemblance between the two speaks for itself to me. I think it’s her. Good job on her “bewitching” eyes.
Interesting. When you look for it, the resemblance between the two is there in the source portraits. This makes me wonder what kind of an effect it had on Elizabeth growing up that as she matured her father could see the Anne he had betrayed in her face more and more.

Henry was very hot and cold towards Elizabeth, and she was constantly making him gifts to appease him as a child. He would repeatedly send her away, and I can't help but think that her best qualities- her wit, charm, intelligence, dedication, and political savvy- were all too familiar.

😍Elizabeth is my favorite so far! Perhaps I'm biased, as I've been fascinated with her since I was a child ( my daughters middle name is Elizabeth)You are right the modern renderings just make her feel so much more relatable, accessible and human. As do all your reconstructions. She looks amazing! On a side note, I really enjoy the work you do. There's something quite moving about it. A reminder that these were real people, with real emotions and dreams and flaws. I'm so glad you mentioned etsy as I would love to get a copy of Elizabeth ❤
These images are intriguing I'd like to see one of a younger Henry VIII with them to show Elizabeth's resemblance to both of her parents.

That's true. At the same time she had been willing to have him put away his first wife, make her step-daughter Mary illegitimate, and separating England from the old church, in favor of the execution of Thomas Moore who opposed her marriage to the king. (Might she have been better off herself if she had not be married to Henry, but remained a mistress?) Would the waves of martyrdoms on both the Catholic and Church of England side been avoided ? So, she was tried, convicted and execute for an act she did not do, but I'm not sure she was exactly an innocent soul.

WOW!! WOW!!! All these years, I could never see a resemblance of Elizabeth to any of her parents. And the fact that Elizabeth ordered the painters to not paint her real face, but, some beautified version of it, and I always thought she was rather ugly, but, you have made her beautiful, that she did resemble her mother, and that I could actually see why men would have wanted to marry her and why Catherine Parr's last husband was so infatuated with her. And Anne's face. I've never liked that particular painting of her, there's one where she's wearing a gabled pearl studded hood that's always been one of my favorites of her, but, you made her look beautiful in that, also. Just amazing!! I just wish they would dig up their graves, take photos of their skulls and recreate what they really looked like so everyone can see what they really looked like. But, you did an excellent job. I'm happy for once about the faces and what they possibly looked like, and you took some unattractive paintings and made the subjects human and beautiful.
Awesome. Could you do a version of Elizabeth with Henry superimposed. Love you work.
Wonderful!
Very well done! Impressive, thanks! The two would like it too, I'm sure! 🍀
