The way the head feathers change color based on the angle of the viewer is amazing.

They can actually change their colors: there is no pigment, but micro air bubbles in their feathers, which change color based on light refraction. They can be entirely brown if they want, and blend in; then be colorful again. They will change colors during mating displays, also. #TheMoreYouKnow
This is most common in my yard and wow! They are GORGEOUS
Delightful and appropriate choice of music to accompany such footage.

The music fits perfectly
Glorious footage! Our backyard is bursting with Anna’s and Black Chin right now. The male Anna’s are lovely, but I just adore how industrious and ferocious the females are this time of year!
What a beauty
Vancouverite here! Thank you for this beautiful video!
Ahhhh my little buddie’s, it’s the end of November here in Oregon. I have a healthy group of 20 or more keeping me busy and entertained❤️
These are so beautiful! I love them!
I envy your Anna's Hummingbirds! We have Ruby-throats here, but they only stick around for Spring and Summer. Love the videos Carol!

Same here in Toronto but I think they're wonderful creatures.
I believe the majority of my backyard feeder traffic are Anna’s. Currently have four feeders (want to add some swings) here in San Diego. We’re very lucky the Hummingbirds will visit throughout the year, but July-September we get tons of them.
I live in Northern California in the Sierra foothills. I see Anna’s Hummingbirds year round at my feeder. We are just coming out of a very cold and snowy winter, it was amazing to see them in this setting as I’d always associated them with being a summer bird. I don’t know if they are common in the higher elevations like those near Lake Tahoe but at 3000 feet where I live they are common year round. I’m glad I left the feeder up all winter because they seem to rely on it when other nectar sources are scare or nonexistent. I would love to have one nest in my yard, they are so beautiful. They also seem to be getting used to my presence because they will fly right up to me when I stand next to the feeder.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
Thank you, Carole! I live in Orange County in SoCal, and we have a nest of Anna’s hummingbirds in our front yard. When I was a girl I remember seeing ruby throated hummingbirds, but I haven’t seen them in a long long time... But I love hummingbirds and enjoy them immensely!

I also live in Orange County with tons of hummingbirds and Orioles. How do you find the nests? When do they usually have eggs? I have so many and they are year around

Brenda Vanderford The nurse was easy for me to fine because it’s in a pomegranate bush right outside my bathroom window so when I open the window I see the Anna’s hummingbird’s in the tree! I live in Fullerton...

@@carolynnunes3922 I used to live in Placentia near Tri City Park. We moved to Dana Point around 20 years ago. I have quite a few trees around my house and I see them fly off to the trees. I have spent so much time looking for nests in the lower bushes but have never run across one. One day I will find one. I also have tons of monarch butterflies. Do you have monarchs?

Brenda Vanderford Unfortunately, there are few butterflies here anymore, even though I live near Hillcrest Park on Harbor Blvd. and the bridle Trail called Hiltcher park that is a 17 1/2 acre wooded area off of Euclid... I do keep my eyes out for butterflies, and always have... I have lived here for about 63 years... I want I want to Fullerton high school, there were a lot of vacant lots with wonderful knock weeds that the butterflies loved, and there were lots of butterflies when I was a child here through high school, but now that I’m an old lady they are few and far between...

@@carolynnunes3922 You live in a very unique area. I drove by your neighborhood daily. My daughters went to grade school at Eastside Christian. I purposefully bought some milkweed and planted it in my yard and the monarch butterflies found it and now they come back every summer. I just keep the milkweed around and they multiply. They make me happy and I feel like I’m doing my part feeding them.
This r sooooo beautiful. I wish they will come to Tennessee. I enjoyed them so much. I have 4 feeders. And several Hummer. I have one so cute in front of my window.he spend long time in the feeder. Clean himself & sleeps few minutes.Pyjer feeders r in different places ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just moved to North Carolina can't wait to set up my feeders!
I've only been lucky enough to see one at a feeder when I lived in central Arizona but he stood out like a sore thumb among the other Black-Chinned and Rufous buzzing around. He was on the move to somewhere or other because we never saw him again. Wish they would show up here in UT more!
I love it... thank you so much for sharing..
Absolutely beautiful thanks for sharing!
In Riverside, CA we have a large beautiful group of Anna's and Black Chin in our backyard. We also currently have a bunch of Roufus that are here camping out. 5 feeders going through sugar like crazy. We love and appreciate your channel and your wisdom.
I absolutely adore these guys here in Southern Utah! They live here year round, and I just am absolutely infatuated with them!! Anna’s hummingbirds are a little more rare than Costas hummingbirds (which are pretty common year round) but when they do come they fiercely battle the Costas at my feeders!! They boisterously chase eachother around the yard, and I can and do sit and watch them for hours on end!! They definitely recognize me 100% as well, they will literally DIVE BOMB me and hover about 10 inches from my face looking me DIRECTLY in the eyes if their sugar water is empty! 😂❤️ I have planted plenty of native flowering desert plants that they absolutely love, but they still argue! 😂I’m so glad we have so many species in the Southwest!
I have one regularly visiting the feeder and over the winter
Beautiful creature! 💕🙏🏻😘
Beautiful!
Hmmm cute bird
Such a beautiful bird! Must be lovely to see it all year round in those cooler climates.
Beautiful Anna’s hummingbird!!! I adore them!!!
Thank you Carole, lots of interesting facts we can tell people about. I love watching them everyday. Williams footage is awesome!
So captivating.. I just love hummingbirds. My deck is like a bee hive with all my hummingbirds. Sadly they will be departing soon. I miss them already 😪 😢 🤍 I live in Virginia.

Hummer story I wanted to share. My wife & I once saved a trapped hummer from a RV. It had lots of rat poop in there. We saw him distressed & fatigued. I grabbed him/her I’m my hands (they are so fragile). Looking for vet he came for a ride with us. No vets open at the time. We drove back to the spot we found the hummer. We open the little box we had him in. He flew off instantly ❤❤❤
Brilliant composition Hummingbird Spot 👍💯
Lovely, I have seen them here in the Catskills of NY, we are higher in the mountains in rural farmlands. They love our bell flowers, I make sure I have every year and they often scold me early in the season if my garden is not in order, rather funny, they are very smart except when caught in a building they begin to panic and often are found persisting to stay high in the rafters often to their demise. We leave all the windows and doors open and eventually they get out. Thanks for sharing.
Anna’s Hummingbird is a beautiful bird, very cute.
I lack words for these pictures because most people have taken most of mine and more. The pictures of these hummingbirds simply make me smile and feel good in a hurting world.
My hummingbirds are here year round. Although, sometimes strange ones move in for a day or two. Couple of years ago, had a male that looked solid red or purple. Cannot remember clearly the color. His whole back.
BTW..am outside watching my hummingbirds right now and one of them had a "pollen head". It was the cutest thing!😂
I have Anna’s and Costa’s who stay in my yard year-round here in Las Vegas. Black chinned leave for the winter. I think that I also have Anna’s-Costa’s hybrids, at least I have wondered. So it’s possible 😃

Costas are just so beautiful. Wish we got them in my neck of the woods in south TX. Don't get me wrong..I still love my ruby throats and black chins. I just love ALL hummingbirds! Ain't no such thing as an ugly hummingbird.

@@susanmenn5016 I have only seen Anna’s, Costas, and black chinned here in Las Vegas. But the Costas heads were more pink than purple, with less “horns” at the neck. But they are the size of Costas, which got me wondering about the possibility of hybrids.
Love them!💖💚
Wonderful captures Carole! i am from Washington and i always enjoy seeing theses little cuties at the hummingbird feeders :) Thanks for always sharing the videos with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Such a joy to see the video William took and see those birds from the live camera up close!
I’m only a town away so my hummingbirds maybe visiting your place. Lol 😂 Thanks for the info. ✌️🌻🌻
I live outside of Seattle and I have a male and female Anna's hummingbird that sit outside next to the feeder all day long in the cold. I make sure they always have sugar water and if it gets too cold I bring it in for the night and put it back out right before light.
I read an article that states these birds territory is moving farther north along with many other bird species I wonder if they sense the big one coming

I think it is more likely that they are finding food there in the winter with the many people that keep feeders up all year.
Love these birds! Hello Carole I live in Massachusetts and enjoy the ruby throat during the Summer,as you know they don’t stay all year round in my area 😞 but anyway I purchased a couple of fountains for them one of them is like the one that you shared with us on one of your videos! The problem is that I haven’t seen any hummingbirds used it yet I was wondering if is they anything I’m not doing quite right could you please give me some suggestions if you can? Thank you so much 😊

Looking for a photo book of Humming birds as a gift , can you help out ?
I just read an article about hummingbirds.. The females have learned how to hide amongst males! They can make their feathers more colourful!! To get some peace from the males trying to mate with them!! 🤭They can go a whole day in camo! Pretty neat stuff!!!
How do you tell the males and the females apart?
My hummingbirds constantly run each other off from feeders, anyone know why? I see other peoples hummingbird footage, and it's nothing like this!

It is in their nature to be territorial and protect their food source.
Guess what. It’s been confirmed that there’s an Anna hummingbird in Portola Valley at 295 Cervantes backyard
hello
I have the photo myself that the bird is a youth
